    It's cool that they used magnets in the head. That was the easiest part to lose when we were kids.

    LOL...yep. Would you believe that at the time these were popular with the kids as toys and women wore necklaces with guillotine pendants.

    I Built the Guillotine model
    from polar Lights when I
    Put the blade Rollers in
    the housing blade I had too
    glue tham in and complete
    blade housing still works
    and I painted the inside of
    the posts the blade still dropped down too cut the head of the victim
    and I no the model Guillotine is a very gruesome
    model to Build But at the end of the day the Guillotine
    is a part of history but I enjoyed Building the Guillotine and I might give
    the victim a name

    I weighed down the head with a little modeling clay before putting it together and added weight to the blade with a few steel bb's and it works great

      and I had the same problem with the blade release, and with a little thought I found that reversing the release got it working just fine. So instead of the long side supporting the blade, I flipped it, and drilled a hole for the string on the side intended to support the blade assembly. This put the short side of the release lever on the side with the catch, and when you pull down, the release pops out from under the catch, and the blade falls.

    Thanks. Yep these old kits are fun and it's very easy. The only seams to contend with are the figure.

  • @xrlent12
    @xrlent12  11 років тому +1

    Thanks Brian. I was wondering why yours came off so easy. I thought maybe your kit wasn't warped. Didn't think that the old ones may not have had magnets. If i had known they were too strong i would have replaced them with less "magnetically attractive" ones. :)

    Try putting beebees in the blade casing to give it more weight.

      Good idea. Of course im not gonna crack it open now.

      @@xrlent12 I have built the same model, and with mine there was a little hole at the top blade case, where I was able to drop in the beebees.

      @@Mike-im5bo interesting. I have it packed at the moment so i cany check it out. But i will try to remember it for the future.

    I bought one of these kits when I was a kid - around 1969. It was made then by a company called Aurora, which I think was Canadian. Quite expensive, too, 15/6 in old money. 77p now. Great fun, even though my folks told me I was sick!

  • @xrlent12
    @xrlent12  11 років тому

    Thanks pete. Yeah i did try adding a weight to the top of it but it didn't make a difference. I've had the flu for a month, slowly getting back on track....grrrr.

  • @xrlent12
    @xrlent12  11 років тому

    yep i did try adding weight later on top of them but it didn't make a difference. I think because it's warped there is still some variable friction in there.

    Think I'll get this for my wife for Christmas, she loves the French Revolution, especially The Terror. The figure is pretty basic, so he could be made to look vaguely like Max or Saint-Just yes?

    • @xrlent12
      @xrlent12  10 років тому +1

      Yeah the figure is very basic and can be sculpted a little

    Want to use this in diorama with my 1/13 aurora monster scenes kits. Is this 1/12 - 1/13 scale? Thanks

    • @xrlent12
      @xrlent12  4 роки тому

      Im pretty sure its 1/12 but not 100% certain. I dont think it says the scale anywhere.

    Do these need glue? Or is it snap kit? Nice painting though.

    • @xrlent12
      @xrlent12  10 років тому

      I think they are snap if I remember correctly i'd recommend using glue though.

    • @joshuastroupe1999
      @joshuastroupe1999 10 років тому +1

      Oh. Thanks! I just wanted to know if it absolutely needed glue. You know. Tryin to save money and all. Also i like youre nosferatu kit. Very nice. I also like the blood pattern on the blade of the guillotine. Ill probably use that myself. Great videos!

      Emilia Baker not this. This is the French model. The one she was executed with was the "fellbai". An all steel guillotine and an even heavier blade.

    It would be better if you could familiarize yourself with the name of the components if you’re going to talk about it. Also when I built this kid I found that adding some 18BB size shot lead shot fishing weights to the inside cavity of the of the mouton or the blade give enough weight to function but you have to pack any buddy buddy.
