some of these comments are making me question everything… correct me if i’m wrong (i’m a fairly-new suede fan) but they’ve always had that element of lgbtq+ allyship, in the sense that they, for example, used a picture of two women kissing as their debut album cover, and wrote several songs about lgbtq+ struggles/relationships/sex and so on.. i’ve seen a fair amount of people complaining about the “wokeness” of this short film, and i just feel like it’s so odd how SUEDE FANS are complaining about the “wokeness” of SUEDE.. like are you joking?? where have you been for the past 30 years??
@@jetjaguar72 well, imagine that some people complained that Rage Against The Machine should just "stick to music and forget about this RECENT political stuff"... 🤦🏻♂️
Back in 1993 the picture for the stolen glances album sleeve seemed cool at the time and different from what others were doing. However now that LGBT gets forced down your throat in everyday life you can’t expect everyone to relate to it. Not all suede songs are about lesbians right? Do you think a feminist would enjoy a movie about white males getting drunk and pulling birds? we can still love the music and pay money to buy their records and see them live. We just don’t care much for this pointless movie, So live with it!
No you're completely right, Suede albums have featured LGBT themes for decades, they've stood up for LGBT causes, one member is gay - it's a long background of LGBT-allied content to ignore for anyone who don't like that. The weirdest thing is that there are many more 'straight bloke' indie bands for anyone who doesn't want LGBT mentioned in their songs or videos.
I watched an interview with Brett and Bernard, right when Metal Mickey was released. That was nearly 30 years ago. The interviewer said "why lesbians in the album cover. Are you looking for attention?" He got roasted by Brett and Bernard. 2022 and people still asking if this is attention seeking.
I was first introduced to Suede in the 90's by two very beautiful and androgynous chic lesbians in my high school. Asymmetrical straight , black, shoulder length hair, combat boots, black bomber jackets and a torn Suede shirt. I wanted to be friends with them so badly. This was in urban Los Angeles in the mid 90's and everyone else was predictably into grunge or top 40. I was a bit more of a geeky oddball goth kid (obsessed with Pornography by the cure) myself. It took 3 records stores for me to find it but when I heard the first chord of So Young it was utterly over. Susan, if your out there, thank you!
I was expecting it to be atmospheric and interesting. I wasn’t expecting to be moved to tears. Loved the actors and the editing. Beautifully done, Suede. 🖤 Counting the days until Autofiction!
Well that was a really beautifully directed little story about love, time and commitment. I was not sure I would enjoy it but I did actually. And the 2-single short film format is very original and the lyrics and themes of the songs really suited the story in some dreamy way.
I can't believe this was over a year ago! I was in this, i'm the girl with the potato face and the bad mullet behind the main couple at 8:25 or so. That's me with a leopard print coat over my back in one of the shots too. It was so much fun to film, I ended up meeting some of my friends for life at this shoot. We had to go down at 7.30 in the morning and the band were so lovely as always. It was confusing at the time before we knew the plot but sitting down to watch this after work the day it came out, it all made sense. It's also highly amusing to go through the comments to see all the people this video's very existance triggered, if you're offended by the existence of nonbinary people you are listening to the wrong band frankly.
This is 'just' a beautiful, emotional, great story, with wonderful Suede music in the background, much like David Bowie's in "Wir Kinder Vom Bahnof Zoo" in the 70s. In fact, I bet they could have come up with a full length movie, with this.
El universo suede siempre tan fascinante, los cortos y trabajos audiovisuales que vienen acompañando a la banda en los ùltimos discos son muy interesantes y ayudan a entender el concepto de cada album, deseando escuchar el nuevo material.
I’ve watched it four times now and the Chris’s line about 30 seconds.. I’m a hopeless romantic so.. Perfect! ❤️ Absolutely beautiful, emotional.. Great acting and directing ❤️
A subtle and very Suede-like attempt to show both sides of the story. Loved the acting ( Hannah in particular)as well.Just one note, if memory serves, capricorn season ends Jan 19...So Chris, bear in mind, you're a typical Aqua lass:)
I am grateful that Suede have been making great music for so long without tapping out like most, and that they've seemingly fair to their LGBTQ fanbase. However they played it safe again by being an all male band doting on girls and lesbians. Will they have made an error if the characters were male, especially if kissing in b&w at a Suede gig? I'm not sure if they'll ever embrace their internal gay male like they did at the very beginning, or if that was just an attempt at being 70s Bowiesque. Girls, lesbians and babies are not my thing, but I guess most straight guys will appreciate it, and certainly won't offend their straight fans.
Fair point. For a lot of media it does seem that it does only seem to go as far as lesbian/bi women and black in terms of sexual and racial diversity (thinking in terms of television advertising especially). Be fair to Suede though they were doing this sort of thing long before it became "safe" for mainstream media to do so.

I mentioned the same right after it came out, to some Italian friends, and I wrote it again here later. It's exactly what it reminded me of. Beautiful music in service of a beautiful story, instead of viceversa.
I wanted to like this film but bits of it I just felt were really cliched and a bit crap. Some of it was great. I think the idea is nice, but the execution feels a bit cliched to be honest. But hey, am glad they tried. That’s what I love about Suede. Even after over 30 years they are pushing themselves still.
To be honest, my feelings towards this short film are mixed. The story is quite nice, the actresses are lovely, and of course the music is great. However, the execution can be better -- it's a little disconnected at some parts. For example, with the sound design, more ambient sounds would improve the overall mood. Anxiously waiting for the new album anyway!
At times the film is suede doing Brookside, I mean that in the best possible way . I have heard some say about this its "Suede being woke", which is typical . I personally , enjoyed it. Im a sucker for the British kitchen sink style - though its a bit Hollyoaks at times. Its nice Suede remember a gig is about fans , as much as the band. This isn't 100 miles away for the Wiz intro to their 90s live gig Brett has always tried to be inclusive, the trouble is culture is divided now. This is no more woke, than M is a racist (that is to say it isn't woke and M isn;'t a racist) The only danger suede have is being called cultural appropriators . As Brett and most of the band are straight as can be . Brett was never a Bowie/M/Marc Bolan pop star. He was always more a dandy druggie. (weren't we all in the 90s?) Which is fine, However in 2022 its all about "staying in your lain" (which is depressingly sad. The video is a nice idea. I liked it
