I have had so much delight in the Amish Friendship bread. It is fun to think of different ingredients to use, pumpkin, chocolate, blueberries, cinnamon and on and on. I freeze mine in parchment paper and then in storage bags and have them ready to take to a friend, church or neighbors. I love me some Whipoorwill. And btw I have a Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow coming soon. Can't wait.
Brings me back to the 1980s. This was so popular in the office with people sharing and bringing in their goodies to share ❤️ a similar version was called Herman 🙃
Love this video! Stress ages! I found disconnecting from the TV, removed a lot of my stress. Their ‘programming” was taking a toll on my health. I cancelled my cable and also Alexia! Tired of having all our conversations listed too! I use to keep the TV on for background sound, found silence is sooo much better! ‘ ‘
I haven’t had a starter for years and didn’t know the recipe to start it. Thank you Ms Lori! One good thing about using the ziploc bag is you can mark the days off with a sharpie right on the bag. 💜
Marys nest explains it best and WITHOUT a yeast start. IF you can't get yeast Marys Nest is the go to girl. Quite frankly I don't understand why you would make this using yeast. The whole idea is to create your own.
My grandmother got me started on this, she was making the starter and sharing it ,and gave Mom and I some from her freezer. I later did the 10 day from her recipe,I just made the bread which started with one cup starter, two cups self rising flour, one cup sugar, 1 half cup milk, 1 cup oil, 2 teaspoons cinnamon,2 packages vanilla pudding, pecans. Mix well, grease 2 loaf pans and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, fill and, bake at 325 degrees for one hour ,check at 45. Sprinkle with more cinnamon sugar, enjoy warm with butter, or cold!! Love y'all from Ky. I'll get one started soon.
This is the recipe I used in 2000 -2003. It is delicious! I made muffins often for the grandchildren. My 18 mo. old GD would come in saying, I want muffs. I want muffs! Such a special memory for me!
Oh I joined today and was looking for the old cinnamon bread recipe. Back in late 70's we didn't use vanilla pudding or pecans etc. Thank you so very much. I might be able to tweak this and find my old recipe! Also Im from KY too!❤❤❤
Thank you. I moved and lost my instructions, and my memory is gone these days. I was really wondering what I did with that "goop" 😢 I'm starting over. 😮
I was never interested in homesteading in my younger years.. I'm 54 now..and for the last few years I've taken a great interest in it and you are just the absolute best teacher..thank you so much for all that you share with us..God bless you always!!!
Hi! I will be 54 in April and I have just started with baking bread. We have had a small garden for years but we are growing more and I am learning canning. I just had to say ‘hi’ since we are the same age! God bless you and yours!
This reminds me of the last time I had a friendship bread starter. It was given to me by my friend Lois and it was an active so-and-so! I had it in a gallon Ziploc bag on the counter and every morning I'd give it a quick massage and it bubbled like crazy. After a few days, I got up one morning and it wasn't there? What the heck? I was staring dumbfounded at the empty spot, thinking surely no one would break in and steal friendship bread starter. Well, that thing had gotten so lively that it bubbled itself off the edge of the counter and across the floor. 😂 After that, I took to making it in a bowl!
Someone gave me the starter when my kids were really young. I enjoyed making it for them as they grew up. It would be fun to start it now for my grandchildren. Thanks for the idea and bringing back great memories
You’ll be so surprised, or maybe you already know! I ordered one the cookbooks from Baddour Center, but I didn’t hear from them so I thought maybe my order hadn’t gone through so I emailed them. I got an email immediately back from them, nothing was wrong with my order, they had received it. BUT, they usually only get one or two book orders a month! But thanks to you and your video they got 550 orders in less than a week!! They had to order more shipping supplies and feel very blessed because of you!! How exciting this is, and how blessed we are too have been a part of your blessing to them!!
I’ve been wondering how to start this for weeks. Had a memory of it from years back but haven’t seen anyone sharing it around like they used to. Thank you for this video!
My daughter-in-law was just asking when we were going to start making this again. I told her I had forgotten how it's been so long. Today I ran across this video because of The Kneady Homesteader mentioning this channel. It looks like tomorrow I will be starting this again!
I thoroughly enjoy your lessons, recipes, inspiration and guidance. But today when you greeted us with “Hello my beautiful friends” I felt truly welcome into your home and life. Thank you from my heart to yours❣️
Mrs Lori, thank you so very much for sharing this Amish Friendship Bread Starter recipe! I actually went to the site I saw on your paper copy and there it was! I can't wait to try all these wonderful new recipes with my starter! I just happen to have 2 loaves of yeast bread in my oven right now, how about that?! (Not made with this starter though, can't wait to try it out!) I just had a thought. I have a laminator, I think I will laminate this copy I printed off so that I can make marks over and over again. Just wipe them off when I'm done, that way this copy is cleared off for the next time I need to use it!
ooooh Ms lori so very happy you are wearing a mike..thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ because I'm hard hear of hearing most of the time I just have to watch you 😂 if I turn up my hearing aid it just whistles..even though I keep my phone volume as high as it will go.. I still missed your beautiful words.. love your channel .. Blessings
Lori Last month I found this recipe and decided to make it. After it was done I made the Blueberry walnut bread with the vanilla pudding it was delicious.
Every time I watch your videos I feel like you both are my family. I hope you know how much you are appreciated in this crazy rushful world! It's nice to feel at Home.
We are in Arkansas, too, and when we had our pond dug, it did the same exact thing as yours. It would nearly get full, then seep nearly out. My husband and I went and bought many bags of Bentonite and scattered it on ours (the main part in front of the dam). I wish we could have done it all over when there was no water in there and no trees yet, but at the time, we didn't have the means to do more than we did. But even the many bags we scattered on the deepest area of the pond worked enough that our pond has never completely dried up even in the worst droughts. We are still sad that ours didn't hold like it was supposed to, because it would be a pretty big one today if it had. Even though it ended up going up and down (still does) we are grateful that we have been able to keep fish in it. We do know the feeling of disappointment, though! We worked really hard getting as much Bentonite on there as we did. If you can, do it in the beginning. Now, if we wanted to put a "liner" in it, we would have to hire someone with a bulldozer and take out a whole bunch of trees again in the larger part of the area where water was supposed to be. I do think it is starting to hold a bit better than it did at first, though. Too bad we can't run a herd of cows in ours for a couple of years...that would "stop it up." LOL.
We dug a pond on the the big farm, Years ago Took three years before it would hold May have to put hogs in it a while to seal it up Thank you, my Arkansas friend!
@@WhippoorwillHoller No problem. Love the idea of this starter, too! I don't know how you have the energy to work and keep up with things on the homestead, but the fact that you do is definitely an inspiration! We find ourselves saying, "Well, Ms. Lori and Mr. Brown are still doing this...if we push ourselves, we can do 'this-or-that' too!"
I have kept a starter for years. I keep my cup in quart size freezer bags and when I get down to the last 2, I start the process over again. I’ve given so many away that a lot of my family and friends already have it. We love it and it’s not so sweet, just right. My recipe calls for instant potato flakes. This one is a keeper!!
Oh Miss Lori. Back in the day I made this by huge batches. I had so many different flavors of friendship bread in my freezer I ran out of space. Then there was the bags of starter that I gave to family, neighbors, co-workers and friends. When people seen me coming to their doors carrying a bag of starter they ran and locked the doors and shut the windows. There is just so many people you can share this with before you run out of people. I ended up putting some of the starter batter down my kitchen sink as live yeast is good for your septic tank. As good as the end product is great tasting, it grows faster then 2 people can consume.
I just love you 2! You're my kind of people. So much wisdom and love! Thank you so much for all you do to help others learn how to be more self sufficient!
I used to make this often but lost my starter years ago and just never got it started again. Thank you for doing this video and sharing the recipe for the starter. God bless y'all.
I've done that. It's a whipping. I make a 50/50 whole wheat sourdough starter in ~10 days then keep the levain in the refrigerator to use for baking. I only feed it once a week and boost the discard to bake bread with or use the straight discard for crackers or pancakes. When I get tired of it I throw it out and make another when I want sourdough. After a couple months with the Amish friendship starter my "friends" wouldn't answer their phone when I had discard to share. ☺
Hi Lori, I wish I could take part in this. Sounds good, and fun. I have never tried this.I hope your weather is getting good so you can work outside ,and the pond is filling up. God bless, love ya. Ok, you just said the pond is not holding. I will be watching to see how you seal it. Good luck.
Miss Lori, I haven’t done an Amish Friendship Bread in years! It will be fun to do it again. I didn’t realize there were so many things to make with it. And thank you for the casserole collaboration...I’m enjoying seeing the different recipes.
I did this years ago and absolutely love it. It makes the best mini chocolate chip muffins. I just kept making them and always had a stash of them in the freezer.
Oh Lori I haven't made this for about 40years my mom and I use to make it. Oh Thank you for the recipe as I've lost mine. We also made a fruit one with no liquor in it and I have lost that recipe we use to put it on pound cake. So until next time God Bless you and your family and have a Blessed Evening and Stay Safe my dear Friend.
My husband use to make sourdough bread and it was wonderful! He & my boys could eat a whole loaf with butter when it came out of the oven. Love your videos!
I made Amish Friendships bread from starter years ago. It was gifted to me, and it grew and grew!! I gave starter away,I baked tons of friendship bread. I had no idea you could do so much more with the starter!! I lost my recipe so I was so glad to see this post!! Can’t wait to try it again! I also can’t wait to try some of the other recipes from the starter! Starting my start now!
I have had my starter for about six months now! It's sooo easy. What it doesn't say is your starter should be active when you bake with it. I have learned by default. I made rolls with mine, and they were very dense. I made it another time and it worked! I waited for the bubbles to form in my starter and it made my rolls so light and airy!!! Just a tip I've learned along the way!!! Also, I substitute a half a cup of the starter for one egg and make my cookies, any cookies, and they are so moist and delicious!!🙂
Good morning! I have a video or two to catch up on.. I seen the title of ur video.. sooo weird I was thinking of this bread the other day! I LOVE it.. my mom and I used to do this yrs ago! 😍😍 thx for reminding me.. Im gonna start it prob tomorrow.. hope u are well I luv ya!😘❤🙏 and all the diff recipes using it..yum 😋 those Irish cream cupcakes.. oh my goodness.
Thank for sharing your Amish friendship bread starter😊 I was just thinking about this last week, when I started my sourdough starter. (First time making a sourdough starter.) I’m going to start this today!🥰🥳
Alright, I have started the starter!! ☺️My hubby said no, not that again. Lol. I have assured him that you have some really good recipes to go along with it and we will not have to eat so much bread. Although having extra bread during shortages would be wonderful blessings! Guess I overdid it before. Didn’t know you could freeze it! Yay!! Thanks for the recipe. I know you will help us make some awesome food out of this!! We love all your recipes! Blessings to you and Mr. Brown. 🌷
Oh thank you I love this for gift giving right now for Christmas gifts for my sister n laws etc ..plus some homemade jams ...hugs & God bless Josette-Texas 🙏
I've been looking for this recipe for a long time. I got some from a friend years ago and didn't keep it up. Thanks and keep showing those starter recipes. God bless you to..
My Sister-in-law and I made this starter probably 25 years ago. We made breads that had puddings for flavorings. We came up with some doozies but we had so much fun working on this together. Thanks for posting this, I hadn’t thought of this in years
Thank you for posting this, Lori! It has been many years since the last time I made this recipe, and it comes at just the right time for me. I will start mine today. What fun! ❤️
Ms. Lori, I use to put all my handwritten recipes in the back of my 1965 Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. So many were lost over the years. I now use a 3 ring binder and plastic sheet protectors. I like protectors opening on the side of the 3 rings. This way your papers won't fall out. You can also buy protectors devided with 3 or 4 pockets that you can put index cards in. If you have 2 sided recipes just don't put another sheet in the back side. This way you don't have to remove it out of the protector. If it's actual 2 sheets of paper I put the 1st sheet on the backside of the protector and the 2nd sheet directly across on the front side of the next protector. The other great thing about the protectors is if you spill something on it, just wipe it off. I also put dividers and label them for different categories of recipes. No more flipping through stacks of recipes to find the one you want. Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏🦅🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🥰🇺🇸🙏
I've never heard of this before. I'd love to try it at the same time as you all but I'm only home three days a week at the moment, looking after my elderly parents the other four. But I'm saving this video and definitely trying it when things change! Thanks for sharing it, I'll be watching to see how yours turns out. x
I'm going to try this. Thank you for encouraging me. When I saw "friendship bread", I thought of the sweet lady who welcomed us to the neighborhood with home baked muffins last October. I want to give back to her. She made us feel so welcome. Thanks again!
Hi Jill, its so good to hear from ya I've been watching your struggle with the all that bad weather So glad yall faired through it , its been a wierd year, and 2 months! Love you!
I enjoyed your video, and I made this years ago when our kids were small. A very good friend gave me my starter from church, and I loved making and feeding it. I remember I would bake the bread every Monday. I am going to do this again. Thank you Ms. Lori, and sad to hear about the pond. I have been wondering how it was doing. 💕

God Bless you also. Thank you once applied again for sharing.
Love the back ground music!
Love this MS Lori!! I have had omish cinnamon bread made this way before with the starter but it's been along time ago!

Anxious to see your recipes from your Amish starter. Go. Mrs. Lori, make it happen.
I DO HAVE A VIDEO USING THIS STARTER
Thats awesome. My mom did that when we were kids. I had actually forgotten about it.
I have never started it but I have kept it alive. I am going to be trying this one because I haven't made it in many years.
Brown. 🌷

My Mother gave me this recipe years ago and I lost it. Thanks for sharing this!
I've been looking for this recipe for a long time. I got some from a friend years ago and didn't keep it up. Thanks and keep showing those starter recipes. God bless you to..
I absolutely love Amish Friendship Bread! Thanks for sharing!! ♥️
Please give the web page for all those wonderful Amish Recipes using this starter.
Thank you Lori for all your informing videos!
Sweet memories and reminds me of my mom. Every Wednesday, feed the starter, please. Best chore ever. ❤️
Hey gal, glad to see all is well. You have great videos and we always love seeing your beautiful face. Lots of hugs and love. Jill and Greg.
Hi Jill, its so good to hear from ya
I've been watching your struggle with the all that bad weather
So glad yall faired through it , its been a wierd year, and 2 months!
