I was born and raised 20 minutes from Boston, MA. At the age of 17, I was diagnosed with Anxiety. My personal experience with the prescribed medication was NOT POSITIVE. So I decided to find better way. I didn't know it at the time but, that was the BEGINNING for me! I have been “FINDING A BETTER WAY” in all areas in my life ever since. Better ways of how to create a modern homestead affordably, and a better way to provide my family with healthy foods, and so….. much MORE!
At Lumnah Acres we hope our experiences can help guide you to find YOUR BETTER WAY! Please join us in sharing our journey with you, let us be a guide to Modern Homesteading, Self-Sufficiency, and FREEDOM for you!
New Videos 5 Days A Week!!!
It's getting closer to the end. I like your attention to detail, having everything ready so your friends are not waiting for you is great. Well done! I hope the tornado decided to take a detour and allowed you time to cover your greenhouse.
"I like to respect people's time." Your respect and caring for people and for your animals is one of the main reasons I subscribe to your channel.
Al you work so methodically and organized it is lovely to watch. Hope weather is good and no tornado came your way. It is so nice watching Gina and Olivia with the goat Mama's and babies. Sooo happy to hear you mention Pluto as I was getting worried something had happened to her as I hadn't seen her in a long while. Made my day!
Al, you are an amazingly HARD worker !! Watching you put up the scaffolding by yourself 🤭...my goodness 🤪
This greenhouse would have been done sometime ago had it not been for all the glitches in the weather. I truely enjoy watching you and Gina working together. What a blessing you are to each other. 🙂
Having Olivia home during this time must be a sweet blessing too. She is a delight for us followers of your channel. She is a beautiful soul from the inside out. 🥰 She is growing up right before our eyes 👀👀 !!! But then, that's how it's supposed to be , right? Wouldn't want it any other way 😊
God bless you all and keep you safe and strong in His tender care. Lots of love and prayers from Oregon 🙏💕👍👍
Was excited to see Tanner this morning...glad he's healed up from his injury.
I still can't seem to get my " guesser" working accurately....haven't got the egg count right for along time...😂
I am so looking forward to seeing your smiles the first time you are working in the (completed) greenhouse and the weather is nasty outside.
Dear Family Lumnah, I just wanted to tell you how much joy you gave my mother and I watching your beautiful family and wonderful life. She passed away this week. My brother and I are receiving great comfort from you and will continue to do so until the end of my days. Thank you for sharing the gift of your family with us. God Bless you and keep you. Much love, Louise and Phil.
Olivia is having the best lockdown life with all the beautiful baby animals on farm!!!
Your greenhouse is going to be a huge blessing! I would loooove to have one but I will just have to enjoy watching your joy! 😁 not so hard.😊
No matter what the weather, you have the best helpers.
Can’t wait to see what you guys are going to grow. Love what you are growing in the garden boxes.
The weather has been abnormal here in NE Texas as well this year. Stay safe Al and only do what you can do when it is safe to do it.
Our weather has been crazy here too. We had a frost earlier this month which is a little unusual for this time of year. Killed my parents' tomato plants so now we all have to start over. Can't wait to see your greenhouse finished. God Bless!
Al, you are one goofy, cheesy yankee....and IIIIIIIIIII like it! I appreciate that you are so genuine in your videos. I’m 4 years away from my homestead and you’ve given me some great ideas and, more importantly, probably saved me from some mistakes. Thanks to you and your family for bringing us along.
Props for working past a fear of heights. I was watching you set up the staging and when you climbed up on the second level, thought “Nope, couldn’t do it.”
The store was pretty bad down here, but we were able to get stuff battened down quickly and pulled the cover off the mobile greenhouse, so nothing got shredded. 👍
The baby goats are so cute. The greenhouse is a big project. Gosh, I didn't think you got tornadoes in your area. Strange weather. Stay safe.💞🐐🐔
Stay Safe we are having a lot of rain and have had several tornado warning already this year with several Thunderstorms. Can’t wait for you to finish the green house. To see what vegetables you choose and pretty flowers also. Vegetable and flowers go good together and help keep some bugs away that will eat your vegetables
Looks like Al was deep in thought when eating his meal I could see the cogs turning .. such an active human doing his best for his family .. nice to see in these dark times keep up the good work
Another wonderful video. The time you take to show us all the animals when you feed is always appreciated by me. Your projects show the dedication you all have for the homestead. Take Care. God Bless
Oh no not another tornado warning! This weather is so so crazy this year.I do love hearing the rain on the metal roof!Crossing my fingers for your greenhouse🤗Supper looks great Gina❣
Ohh YUM.. gonna do that for dinner. These guys are constantly inspiring us. 🥦🥔🥕🥣
Love the sound of rain on the barn roof. I have the same in my house because I used spray foam insulation, which offers almost no sound-proofing.
I really hope that the weather calms down so that you and your friends can do the work on the greenhouse 🤞
See you Thursday! 😃🤚
We had a tornado watch last night till 9pm here in KY!! We are good though, BE SAFE GUYS!!!
I think with where you live this Green house is a huge step towards being able to grow enough food and variety to live comfortably! I think this is a great addition to the homestead, wish I could afford one sooner rather than later.
eggs, I saute onions and in summer tomato with some avo oil and garlic salt , then pour the mixed eggs (with a splash of milk) over that and scramble them in the pan. in winter sometimes green onion. will also sometimes put in herbs for different seasoning, just ot change it up.
About 10 years ago, a tornado somehow spared my small hoop house when I lived across the border from you in Maine. The commercial grower down the road in South Paris wasn't so lucky and lost all 17 of their commercial greenhouses.
Thank you again for sharing your lives with us, it is an inspiration every episode. Beautiful family life!
Hope no tornado c ones close. Hope you have all the people to get the plastic up on the greenhouse. Gina dinner looks great. God bless stay safe♥️🇺🇸🌹
It sure will be nice when you get that green house done; and be able to use it. I am just happy that you have a nice area soon to grow in.
I'm not thrilled with heights either. Remember, I lost a dear friend who fell off a scaffold. We are having bad weather too. An inch of rain over night with another 4 - 8" of rain by Thursday. I hope your weather calmed down! Tornadoes don't like mountains, we might have an occasional microburst but tornadoes and hurricanes die down when they hit the mountains. Blessings to all.
I just can't believe the luck you are having with this roof plastic. I hope this time will be a winner for you. Have a Blessed day and stay safe.
Just a suggestion for when you replace the plastic. Try using a good sharp pair of scissors. Its really easy to cut too deep or to far into the channel with a utility knife. I have done that myself. Later on that cut will manifest itself into a problem on the other side of the wire channel.
Love what you all are doing here!
Chuck
What a nice way to start your day, your family, animals and clean air.
lol!!! died laughing when you tossed the feed on top of that chicken.
Me too . 🤫😂🙀 poor chicken
So did I!! Poor chicken 🐓
Peter Johnson what’s the name of your channel so I can see the right way to do things
@Peter Johnson The chickens look healthy and they are laying eggs don't see what the issue is ? either way once the field gets green he always moves the chicken coop around so they have a lot to forage for .
Peter Johnson when the weather cooperates, they are moving NYC to a grassy part of the pasture
Good morning Lumnah family ☕️ A true friend not only knows your story, they helped you write your story... have a blessed day
Can't wait to see the greenhouse finished, I know your ready to be done too & get growing! We're waiting for wind to settle down too so we can get our plastic on too. God bless you and your family 💞🙏👼💖
Tornado! In New Hampshire? Crazy times! That greenhouse is HUGE! But why not go big. You'll find ways to fill it. I can't wait to see how you use all that vertical space! The three of you make such a great work force! When you think of all the things going on behind the scenes; the laundry, cooking, cleaning, editing, schooling, homestead chores and building, it's very impressive! But, Al, you look like you could use a little rest about now! Take care all.
In the pan I put a pinch of salt and some freshly ground pepper. White granulated sugar is added to the plate, but that is only for scrambled eggs.
Great video, can’t wait till your growing eggplant and tomatoes in the greenhouse, thank you for your precious time kindest regards tam 🏴❤️🏴❤️
Good morning Lumnahs... you’re right about the journey and how you want your high tunnel. The weather hasn’t been favorable in your neck of the woods, but your time management is excellent and I commend you and Gina for instilling good values in Olivia. The way things are going in the world, it’s good to have a plan B and C as you work on the homestead. Those rogue chickens sure are pumping out a lot of eggs. True blessings. Even with the crazy weather, we have to be vigilant. I was working in my yard and it started to rain. Hawaii has been having lovely breezes and sunshine ( though it threw a monkey wrench in my plans to till my yard.) It’s ok... it’s a journey. Have a blessed and safe day everyone 🤙
Living in Alabama, Tornado Watches and Warnings are a way of life for us. We finally got around to installing a shelter on our carport and we have used it 3 times already this year during warnings. We have been spared each time, but having it is peace of mind.
Suggestion for greenhouse: start thinking about how you are going to water your plants. Options are hand watering, sprinklers, or drip lines. Either way you are going to run a hose or water line out there. High tunnels are extremely productive but you don't benefit from natural rainfall. Probably most effective would be zone drip lines because different plants need different amount of water, but the other options could work as well.
I add parsley every time to my eggs. I also add an asian red chili paste to them. A little extra water added helps to make them fluffier. I occasionally add chopped red, yellow and green bell peppers to make the eggs a complete meal.
Putting a couple raised beds in the greenhouse, would be nice. First because they store heat for free, and if you put them hip high. It is alot easier harvesting.
Good luck with the weather !!! Hope everything goes smoothly.
I can't wait to see the green house completely finished and i can only imagine how you all are anticipating the finished product😉
Looks like a delicious dinner. Excited to see the green house completed. Maybe it would be cool to see you all growing some watermelons in it. But they my take up a lot of room. I hope you all have a great day. Thanks for sharing.
Take care, see ya :)
Al, I throw all my egg shells around my apple trees. HUGE boost of nutrients while they decompose.
Awww man you guys cant catch a break with this weather!!!!!
Good morning lumnah Acres i didn't know you suppose to cut the overhang plastic off, that new to me now i know when i put my little greenhouse up
for scrambled eggs we add diced ham, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and add shredded cheddar cheese once cooked and on the plate than zap it in microwave for about 20 seconds just to get the cheese melting. Sometimes we add diced tomato or sliced black olives if we have any left over from taco's or enchiladas the night before.
Greenhouse can not wait to see all sides up ..I need baby goat time. Ms Olivia is so lucky.
It's September 28, 2021 and I still guess how many eggs are in NYC. I love watching you guys. I started watching when you got Hope but then I went back 3 years to see how you started out with the goats. I love the cooking part too. Gina, Al, and Olivia you are all amazing people. Al I love the way you teach Gina and Olivia. Gos bless
My wife makes basil olive oil from our fresh basil each year. (Stores great in the fridge). We start eggs off with the basil olive oil, in addition to salt, pepper, garlic powder, chopped peppers and onions...
Praying you guys don't get no tornado! Stay safe :)
We whisk the eggs with salt and paprika. Add a little milk and flour, whisk again and in a pan with oil just as you do. Greetings from Saxony, Germany from Tina and Patrick.
JudithB Finally moving plants out of my little greenhouse and into box beds in the gardens. I still need to build more and get bulk compost ordered. I am putting hoops over 3 4x8' beds with row cover on them to keep the bugs out of the greens and squash too. We had 6 tornados in south Arkansas last weekend, and lot of rain and wind here in central. Suppose to be dry all week, so of course its going to rain tomorrow. Good for transplanting plants but hard to do other things!!!
Prayers for safety tonight - God’s protection on your property, animals and your family.
I was in botany club in high school. I love greenhouses! I like to walk in and smell that green smell and moist earth. The warmth! I have a little one that is collapsible. I take it down in the summer as it gets much too hot. Blessings on you and your family and friends, your homestead and livestock.🌱🤠🐱🕊🙏🖖☀️🌜🌠
You and Gina did a Fantastic job building the green house🙌💥!
17.
We had that last week. U must be far behind. The wind whipped and the rain poured but no word of touch down.
I hope it doesn't get charged!
JO JO IN VT 💕😄
Hi Al I put a eye latch on the side of the milking stand poles like the ones you put on the windows it works good.
Hi Al Gina you guys are doing so much in your farm ... love watching,,, we here in Kolkata India are bracing for a super cyclone. Hope it blows out into the sea ,, fingers crossed,,, stay well all.
You asked for suggestions about planting in the greenhouse. I watch several gardening channels and they seem to have a lot more organic material especially with their newer garden beds. One couple even got spent hops from a local brewery to add as one layer of organic material. They use a no till method and just add several layers of material. They plant on mounds rather than directly into the soil. Fantastic results!
I can't wait to see if you heat it in the winter or some hoop houses inside in the winter? Mine greenhouse is only a 8 x 12 only use it in the spring. I'll be upsizing soon though.. You guys inspire me!! thanks Ed
The weather has been crazy this past year here in Georgia. We pretty has no snow this past winter. We were having summer like weather when we should have been burning wood on the stove& started early this tornado season and already had several really bad storms. Just crazy
We used a cherry picker to wash the P-3 back in the day, in VP-22 when it was at Barbers Point Hawaii to wash the salt spray off. The tail is 30 feet high
I add milk or water, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and poultry seasoning to my scrambled eggs. It nice to see Orange yolks instead of the pale yellows we get at the grocery store 😀😀
Another variant of Tina. Whisk the eggs, salt and paprika powder and some sparkling mineral water, whisk the eggs again. In a pan, let out a little fat back bacon, the eggs and a little chives on top. Delicious!
Had to look it up but I remember when I was a kid a tornado did hit Worcester,Mass. back in 1953. Pretty rare back there but it can happen with the right conditions anywhere. Stay Safe.
If I scramble eggs, I start off sauteing onions with bell peppers till tender, pour on the eggs. When they are almost done, I top with tomatoes and sprinkle with cheese until it melts and eat.
Pulling plastic brings back memories. We waited one time for three months before we caught a day the wind wasn't blowing to hard. You can pull plastic with a small breeze. Irregardless, if a gust of wind comes up and gets under the plastic and turns it into a para-sail don't try to hold it down, let go. Make sure everybody helping to pull plastic understands that.
Sounds like you'e getting our usual Colorado weather there in NH; while we're enjoying a 88° today. Hope the tornado passed you by and things work out for you and your friends to get the plastic up on the greenhouse. Nice of them to help out. BTW - I guessed 14 today - and two for Rusty's girls yeah me! lol Sometimes Gina, we do our eggs with diced potatoes, onions and mild chili peppers. Then wrap them into a flour tortilla with a little cheese and for breakfast burritos. Leftovers? Wrap in aluminum foil and put them in fridge for another day or for quick snacks. Easy to reheat in toaster oven. A little salsa or green chili on the side goes great.
Y’all could put a citrus tree in a large pot and have fresh lemon limes oranges in that massive greenhouse
Tornado "Watch":: Weather conditions are favorable.."make a plan"..... A Tornado "Warning" means a Tornado that is on the Ground..Seek shelter immediately.. I live in Arkansas... Both are Different.. We have had Quite a few Tornados hit this year Sad to Say..Four Tornados on the Ground last week.. Prayers for your safety.. I miss Pluto..And yes! Scared of heights! Watching you work the plastic, there were points I had to close my eyes. om goodness! and of course, dinner=Looked soo good, so I will close now that I am hungry..LOL!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
Breakfast for dinner is one of my favorites. We do it once a week. I like the traditional bacon and eggs and potatoes but I also make a Mexican scramble using chorizo, and I will also make huevos rancheros, or vegetarian quiche using spinach, artichokes, mushrooms, onions, Monterey jack cheese and cream cheese.. its killer.
I like cheese, chives, black olives salt, pepper. I like eggs and grits together and put the same stuff in it. I use what ever meat is available to boost proteins. Leftovers, sandwich meat, bacon or sausage etc. eggs is one of my faves.
I'm looking forward to the plastic going over the greenhouse and seeing what you grow. Maybe you could grow some Grapes, I know of someone here in Scotland that grows them, love and blessings from Scotland :) :) P.s hubby and I sit and watch you at the same time and we guess how many eggs you get lol :)
In Northern Arizona we have the usual spring wind. Otherwise our weather keeps switching between Summer and Spring.
There is a difference between a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning. Watch means you have the kind of storms that possibly could form a tornado forecast for the area. Warning means there is an area of rotation present or a funnel present. Watch means get the loose stuff secure and be mindful and aware of what's happening when the storms are in your area. A Warning means take cover as rotation is present or a tornado has formed.
I don’t like tornado anything...watch’s, warnings, it doesn’t matter which one I don’t like them. I live in tornado alley and every spring tornado’s is a common occurrence around here. Ugh..
The greenhouse is going to be so beneficial for your family. I can’t wait for the next video to see how that plastic is going to go up. I built a small hoop house after watching your video on it and I did fine until...yep, the plastic. I used so much plastic just trying to get it right. So I’m anxious to see this go up in a much larger fashion. Good luck Lumnahs!! It looks so nice !
Besides the chickens escaping the mesh fencing, it appears they also squeeze out the latch side of that gate. Is that the only escape route? Perhaps a 2x4 would block the gap in that gate.
Really enjoying the greenhouse build and all the other Lumnah Acres activities from my recliner. 👍😁
Woot woot I got 14!!!
On a side note I just realized that the shirt Gina is wearing the Sun set is outlined as a pig!!! Awesome!!
17eggs aww 😞😄woow more rain you can send some our way here in az we can use some over here .
We’ve had 11” inches of rain in the last week , unbelievable!
Good mauhnin Lumnah Acres! I was with you Al, my egg count was 16 also! Those roasted veggies looked yummy. Love them. Excited for the greenhouse to be covered! Take care Lumnah family!
Wow Guys I really hope there's no tornado!!!!! Gina what's the time in temperature for roasting those vegetables that look awesome.
Thank you 🇨🇦 Craig
think about putting in a table to make up pots for next spring seed starting
Yeah man here's me comment . Ya doing a real fantastic family job , just keep going , wait for the tornado to pass , fingers crossed , homestead on...
You all inspire me to get more things done, love the videos..
💙 I tried cutting my onions the way you do, Gina and ... well... epic fail.
Al, I suggest growing Kholrabi. A very interesting vegetable to grow and just as good to eat raw as cooked, maybe even more so. Consistency of a turnip, but a smoother flavor, about like eating an apple, but not as sweet.
Hope yall are safe. We are having a whole week of rain. In the 50s today and tomorrow for highs usually highs in the 80s this time of year! Its crazy. Hope yall try to grow some Brussel sprouts as many as yall eat.
Like the shirt you are wearing Gina...went to look at your store..but it's not there.
Nice shirt....recall when we in NJ started getting Tornado warnings...still get them...I pray it goes around..with Hurricane Sandy too..God answered that prayer. Praying God keeps you safe...and it goes around you.
In Yorkshire (UK) We call it Bubble and squeak or a fry up specially on Boxing Day .. with the left over veg .. enjoy
one thought where you have extra plastic on the outside ends of the greenhouse on the ground you could build flower beds one each side and plant flowers that repel bugs
Al...something special about those pigs. (and I grew up on a farm where pork raising was one of the prime income sources). They seem to be a little more intelligent and willingness to bond than your standard hog. Hope that does not become an issue when time to harvest. All the best.
C. Ruf I agree! I noticed that early on and suggested that if they had ever thought of keeping one or two for breeding these would be good candidates :-)
C. Ruf, Hey man you need to grow up. Al and family ain't no city slicker. It seems to me you are. I bet you get all teary eyed when you go shopping and turn down the meat section. GROW UP!!
@@ginacota9724 Not sure I want either my pigs or my phones smarter than me.
@@RickP654 ?? Say... this is a 'Safe Zone' here friend. Be well.
The first year I raised meat chickens I made friends with them. I loved going to feed them and giving them kitchen scraps. Then came butchering time and I felt like I was murdering my friends. The next year I kept myself more detached.
Pickle your green tomatoes after growing season is done. They are delicious!
I can't wait to see all the plants filling the green house!
Looking forward to the green house being finished so all of the planting can start.
Parsley in the eggs is delicious! Love the greenhouse. you inspired me to get one. It is not as elaborate as yours but I will be adding some additional embellishments to extend the growing season even further.Larry
Hey, Al. I sure hope y'all are getting at least a part of the pay for all the 'commercials' they are sticking in your shows! Oh, yeah, I'm really looking forward to the day we get to see the fully built green house!
You might want to make a root cellar/severe storm bunker next on your list of projects! Besides, you might need a root cellar to store all those crops you'll be growing!
“Don’t want to leave any ‘shop pots.’” My f-i-l was from Lowell. You can take the boy out of Massachusetts, but... 🤣
