Yesterday evening, our sweet couple came by the nest tree for a nice visit. Branch Manager Shadow arrived first and got right to work tidying up and rearranging the furniture. He certainly is a Master nest builder so he knows what he's doing, however, I can't help but laugh at how messy their nest gets while under construction.🚧👷‍♂️🏗
When Jackie arrives, Shadow continues to control the operation. They both perform some nest-keeping and Shadow plants a few soft beakies on Jackie as she works. First on the beak and cheek, then a soft nip on one of her wing feathers followed by another soft beaky kiss to her face. He just cant help himself but to be close to his lady. I just love their bond! 🦅🫶🦅🥰
Jackie leaves first and Shadow stays behind to finish up his work on some branches and gives us a close-up of his fierce and handsome face. Notice the breeze through his feathers and the sharpness of his beak. His eyes zoning in on everybirdy flying through his neighborhood.
He tracks Jackie in the distance with his intense eyes and if you use your eagle eyes, you'll catch a flash of her white head and tail feathers as she flies past the nest tree on the right side. 🦅👀
Later, they both roost in their favorite tree nearby with one of them, I believe, tucked farther out just behind some branches keeping themselves quite hidden from view.
Then of course, our night-shift nest inspector stopped by to check on the changes made by the big danger birds earlier. No snackies left behind, shucks. I'm not sure if it was Fiona or Fast Freddie the (nocturnal) resident flying squirrels but whoever it was sure bounced out of there like a flash. 🌙🌲🐿
