  • In this video I changed the water quantity in the syringes to 4ml and changed the PIPS Tip to a size 600. The arrangement is the same like in the first video from left to right: EndoActivator by Dentsply, NSK NiTi insert in Sirona Ultrasonic Unit for PUI, Fotona Pips Laser 600 tip, VDW Eddy in air scaler. As you can see in the video, I also reduced the Hz of the Laser at one point to highlight the difference. ENJOY!

I appreciate the effort but those instruments are designed for the root canal approximate diameter and it's inconclusive to apply these results in the models which u tried... the working principle may not holds good for the models which u tried...
    thank you...

Gregor, thanks for this comparison but as you know, this is not clinically relevant. Unless ones irrigating inside an elephant's tusk the pulpal volume is not reflected in these wide syringes. This is why the ultrasonic is not performing since the action is within the vicinity of the tip. In fact, the more violent the action I would argue that there's more side effects of debris/caustic fluid extrusion causing post operative pain. Please duplicate this experiment in a plastic block with an open end using dye. Otherwise, this current experiment can be misleading. Cheers! :)

Hello and thanks for the reply! Yes, this current experiment is misleading - on purpose! Everybody jumped on to it and either said "Wow, the other instruments really s**k in comparison to the Eddy! " or like you pointed out correctly "This is of no clinical relevance due to the shear volume and the space for the Eddy tip to swing around". I wanted to point out how each instrument behaves similar AND different to each other, and for eample that just holding a vibrating plastic tip into any tooth without scrutinizing how it is working and affected in the root canal is useless . My plan was to decrease the volume gradually until real sizes of root canals are reached, but time is slipping away so to speak😄, so I went for plan B and cut the chase. For weeks I have three more videos on camera waiting to be processed now, and the results are pretty interesting- at least for me. Regarding the caustic side effects: I use Eddy and PIPS in my office during root canals, and so far I notice no difference compared to the past without it. What I can assure you: the moment somebody plays "the apical barbarian" and opens the apex to an ISO size so large that an Eddy can fit through, the tip will definitely tickle the hell out of the bone😄. I have done that in the past in retreats, but to no negative effect that were noticed, "Post Op Pain" basicly disappeared with BC Sealer in my office. So please be patient, your questions will be answered. Best wishes!

The fourth contender ( instrument 😅) is the VDW Eddy in an Airscaler
