- Concours annuel à Pembroke qui regroupe environ 25 violoneux jouant des reels à tour de rôle, sans arrêt et sans jouer un reel qui a déjà été joué auparavant. Vers la fin, les violoneux doivent jouer seulement la partie "A" d'un reel (qui dure seulement 10 secondes). Ce vidéo montre les dernières minutes du concours du 5 sept. 2010, alors qu'il ne restait que 3 participants: April Verch, Shane Cook et Danny Perreault. Ce concours a duré environ 2 heures. Juge: René Dacier. Gagnante 2010: April Verch. À la fin, Danny Perreault joue une de ses compositions (Breakdown à Rosaire) et Germain Leduc l'accompagne au piano d'une drôle de manière...

I haven't seen this for a few years, but it's truly amazing to me. I believe I counted about 68 different tunes played. When I'm playing or someone next to me is playing I am absorbed by the music enough that I can't think of any other tunes. These three fiddlers are all excellent and a lot of fun to listen to! I need to get to Pembroke and see this for myself!!!!!
I take my hat off to all the fiddlers who take part in this annual "Fiddle Off" at La Marche, the Quebec fiddlers gathering area at the Pembroke Fiddle Park.. It starts with a dozen or more from all over the Park. They all have to play a short piece of a tune in turn without pausing. Also they can't repeat what has been played.One by one fiddlers drop out until there are only two or three left. That's where it really gets interesting because they have so little time to think of a tune when it's their turn.Definately not for the faint-hearted! It was my pleasure to have played the upright bass for several of these events over the years.
