      @@50lek you can use a usb cable aswell and its plug and play with a usb, just into the mic and computer. Or you can choose to use an xlr with a cloudlifter for example or interface.

    This mic is so versatile! It's been a game changer for me; I used to have an older SM58 (for singing into my keyboard - has a mic input), AT2020 (for talking videos on my blog) and a cheap iRig mic for narrating iPad software videos being screen captured, or for vocals into GarageBand on my iPad. The Samson has replaced ALL of these and I absolutely love it. The AT2020 was fine for talking but too sensitive in my apartment, and too sensitive to sing and play keyboard at the same time (picks up keybed noise).

    Ah yes, the review, as promised. I looked at the Q2U and hoped it had a similar capsule to my Samson Concert 288 wireless mics. I then picked up the Q2U on a deal of the day special for $53.49 shipped. It met my expectations. A good GAS transaction. Thanks for the review.

    I just recently bought this mic and I'm not all that crazy about getting the craziest best sounding mic. I almost forked out the 250$ for the Shure MV7. But I'm glad I didn't because this checks all the boxes for me. I get a nice podcast sound from it right out of the box. And I love that. The built in sound card is a huge plus for me. I originally had a Blue Yeti Nano but the sound card in it was just trash. Very noisy when using it for monitoring or playing sounds out of it from my Pc. I don't have those issues with the Q2U. The headphone output and sound output from it are perfect for me. The Q2U and the Audio Technica ATH-M30X headphones are all I'll ever need for gaming and hanging with friends online.

    I use a Q2U - for my hobbyist / non-professional experiments... and I think the options and sound quality you get are perfect for a beginner - in particular if you don't want to care right from the start with XLR and interfaces and stuff, but just want to hit record to create you first podcast at your kitchen table. Otherwise - if you want to learn a bit more about an audio chain I'd recommend a XM8500 and an U-Phoria maybe ... with this you should also end up at around $70 for some okay audio quality. Yes, you may consider to get a SM58 and a Scarlet ... but then you are not even close to 90% of human kind are no audio pros - and for those >90% something like a Q2U is a good choice to get some decent audio quality - with not all to many alternatives in that price range (the ATH USB/XLR mics if you get one in your country).

    • @nmbr73
      @nmbr73 2 роки тому

      And yes, I know ... the other 10% of human kind are now going nuts and want to kill me and think I'm a total idiot for only mentioning that someone may consider to use something like a Q2U or a XM8500 😂

    • @nmbr73

    One key point which is the song headphones monitor output, does not work when using XLR. This is something not mentioned on the box or anywhere in the description. But the quality of a sound is very decent in fact and if you only have the microphones going USB into your laptop or iPad and not an audio interface that will create noise, you got yourself a pretty goodbye for a really strong microphone that is built well.

    • @DarkCornerStudios
      @DarkCornerStudios  2 місяці тому +2

      This is standard.
      You cannot use the headphone jack unless the computer recognizes the microphone as an interface with the computer...which can only happen in usb mode.

    Yes it isn't very expensive. But if the beginner isn't aware of their handling technique, pops their Ps or knocks the microphone all over because.....they are beginners then it's not a very forgiving microphone. Not ideal for beginners simply because it costs less. If you buy a standard manual transmission engine car it will cost you less, but you're not going to drive it adequately if you aren't aware how to drive it properly. Spend the extra money and get an automatic transmission. Or a bus pass.

    • @DarkCornerStudios

      True, but I don't see the point here: Hand the beginner a SM7B or a RE20 and with the wrong technique he will totally ruin it (saw people talking into a dynamic from a three feet distance).
      I think it's more the other way around: On UA-cam most beginners are induced towards buying a Yeti / Rode / whatsoever - not being in a studio environment and so having little chance to get some bearable audio without reverberation out of a condenser. In particular as a beginner you can't sound treat your room - but with 10 minutes of practice you can get some decent audio out of a cheapo dynamic like a XM8500 or a Q2U.
      To take your car comparison: A beginner will get from A to B with a cheap old car (Q2U) - and he will be much faster compared to walking (in camera mic for example) ... my first car was simple and cheap, but it served me for years and helped me to learn driving. You would not start on an expensive supercar - and I doubt that as a beginner you would get from A to B any better with a Lambourghini or Bugatti. Sure you can take the bus because you only can afford a Volkswagen but not a BMW - but then you won't learn driving and it won't help you driving a BMW some day. You can have a lot of fun with a VW and driving manual is a thing of one day practicing (again: you won't learn anything if you drive by bus waiting to buy an automatic).
      If you are a beginner imho the Q2U is a good choice ... still below the cost of a SM57 or 58 setup ... you can start without the additional complexity of an interface ... you get some okay'ish quality (by far better than what comes out of your airpods or your webcam mic) ... and with XLR, direct monitoring, etc. you have your upgrade path and a good basis to practice.

      @@nmbr73 The UA-cam content creator beginner wants a USB model because they are plug and play. Asking them to include an interface and learn a signal chain complicates things. It's like asking someone to learn photography on a completely manual DSLR. They should be given some training, theory and direction on how to best compose a shot, consider the lighting, distance from the lens and the object etc. But if they are going out there trying to create content without the benefit of a proper class or even a workshop they're going to want a simple point and shoot or a fairly easy entry level DSLR with automatic or simplified options.
