Nice man! Good turnaround on the video & even tho the video was angled weird the first thoughts and impressions are always key points and valuable feedback as it's unfiltered & straight from the heart
It's just copying the geometry of bikes from 2014, and packaging it in an otherwise rad and capable setup. No ultimate complaint, but that's not a particularly accurate argument.
how is the Following vs the new Spur or Izzo? I rode 100mm few times and looking for that snappy fast climber...do you think the Following can be compared with the Spur? Tnx
I’d rather ride a Grim Donut. Who wouldn’t? This bike brings nothing new to the table other than a bizarre rear geometry. Don’t expect other bike brands to follow.
I feel bad for the person who spent a small fortune on a carbon wheel set that they hoped to be able to put on all there new bikes for years to come in 148 spacing. Oh wait that's me
Price of improvements. I mean if you just bought a TB4 or ripley or something those bikes will still be amazing in 7 years or whatever. The new bikes will just be more amazing. Same reason old n64 games don’t work on new systems :P.
Ryan - this may be a dumb question, but I've been out of the XC racing scene for almost 20 years. Is this bike XC raceable, like Open trail, lots of vertical, CLASSIC NW XC racing-able? I raced the old WIM and Wild Rockies Series wayyyyy back in the 90's, on some classic courses of UP, fast Singletrack, and then DOWN. Does this bike fit that bill? I'm really intrigued by this new release. I live in Reno now, on Peavine.
Yes. Super efficient suspension, makes this a totally different animal compared to suspension twenty years ago. Secondly, this bike is on the xc end of the mountain bike spectrum. Bottom line, you can haul ass on this bike, up down or around.
Richard Wharton it’s not an XC race bike, nowhere near. It’s more of a “downcountry” bike, one that’s efficient on the climbs but designed to be more fun descending. You just have to look at the overbuilt pivot area to see that this bike will be no lightweight. Something like the transition spur with light parts and wheels is more the sort of bike you’re looking for or if you want to go more down the race route then a specialized epic evo
Really enjoyed this video. I could tell that the impressions about this Evil were super real and rad. This was a helpful review, and even though the GoPro angle was off just a tad, it was still enjoyable to watch some rad footage. 🤘🏼
Imagine ever locking out a Weagle bike that has less than 150mm travel. I dig the option, but I doubt I would ever use it. 157 makes sense, but it means I won't be buying it. Maybe the outstanding MB will be closeout priced now.
I believe it's actually 66.4 head tube in xtra low with the 130 pike I believe (which is what most people will spec imo). So like the Ripley. So still fairly slack (which I personally like ;P). 130 pike has a higher a2c than the 120sc fox fork and also has the 10 mm more travel hence the big hta change. Anyway thanks for the video, bike looks amazing :).
The most useful part of this is vindication for all the savvy engineers like myself who took one look at the Boost148 standard and concluded that we might as well run 157mm spacing...
Nice knee pad shots!! Actually kind of cool watching that angle. You get a better idea of how the bike performs. Typically when watching a review, you see the trail and hear commentary. I think it would be great to have angles that show us how the bike performs up close while viewing the trail ahead.
Seems its intent is to be super poppy fun climber. I guess this means all of Evils Bikes will now be going to 157 rear! They’re not gonna do it just for a 120 mil bike and leave their larger bikes without it.
Hi, can I ask what the spec is on the bars please, rise? degree up? degree back? can't quite make it out / read it on the video and the Evil spec page doesn't provide complete info. They look a lot more comfortable than my Santa Cruz carbon bars. Thanks.
An 1160 wheel base in a medium! There's promise yet for the bike industry. I'm looking for a bike that I can ride hard any day of the week... Roll technical blacks on the shore when I feel like it, and maybe... just maybe, excel in the BCBR next year... or the year after that. ...Maybe. Point is, I have no use for an XC bike. No fun outside of racing. I need a capable trail bike with a little XC bent. The 2019 Norco Sight might have been perfect. But not now, Norco, not now... The Optic is plain ugly. There's still hope with Rocky... We'll have to test ride the Instinct (not the BC edish). Knolly's Fugitive (not the LT) has compelling geo... but there's a weight component. And yes, there's Trek's Fuel... The Following isn't 40 mills longer. It isn't 2 degrees slacker. And it's still a blast to ride? Mic drop.
Your Mic dropped right on an over looked Scott Genius 700 LT with the twin-lock. 160/160, 28lbs with 29 or 27.2 flip chip. Perfect reach for everything other than gnarly DH. Can’t say enough, 2017/2018, bike was way before it’s time, and when it first arrived 2015/2016. Rips Yeti’s SB150 and Santa Cruz Megatower too. Haha, I just laugh and shred everything. Climbs like an XC Bike and rips enduro tech. One and ✅
Aside from the much steeper STA and changes in reach, would this bike feel that much different than the first 2 versions? Has anything else regarding suspension kinematics/progressivity etc changed or not really? I like the idea of grabbing an MB for much cheaper, but don't know if I'd regret not getting this v3.
Superboost has been around for 3 years now and there are still only maybe a handful of brands using it including the originator. The vast majority of bikes coming out even in the past few months are still running boost. What makes you say 157 is taking over? 148 is plenty stiff; why do we need another damn axle standard already?
Newish to trail bikes. Been around for years and years on Dh bikes. It just makes sense to have all big gnarly bikes the same. Save 148 for xc and trail
Moity it’s definitely huge for bigger riders and or those who really slash turns. My old evil felt like a noodle because it was non boost, now I recently rode the trail 429 from pivot and that bike blew me away with how stiff and snappy it felt in the rear end.
Hey, how does this bike ride compared to an Evil Calling? I am currently cycling with a calling but I find it a bit on the small / short side to be honest. I am considering switching to a following.
In a bike review video I’d actually RATHER see more of the bike on the rail than the trail! Loved your vid! I just got a Following V1 from JensonUSA and prefer that it’s less slack. I don’t care for the conservative paint job of the new Following you have. It’s like all the drab black, white, or metallic, cars today...BORING!
That's not from the boost, the ripmo is just a way more playful bike. Way different rear end curve and shock tune from the DW. Also can't ignore the upsides of a 44 offset fork
Wooditdo I'd love to compare the new Ripmo AF carbon to the Following v3. Both can utilize coil now as well (including PUSH) which opens up the possibilities even more. Both are amazing bikes.
@@maplic Did't say it had anything to do with the Superboost rear or not. I am quite familiar with both bikes which is why I switched. I am currently riding a Ripmo V1 which does not have the short offset fork. 44mm has to be designed into the geometry which they have done on the V2. I wouldn't say short offset is a game changer. PLenty of great bikes like the Revel Rascal being released without a short offset fork. Just happy to not have to run the 157 hub on my wheel builds or wider spindle on my cranks.
