  • NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (20th Century-Fox 619) The last of six singles issued between October 1964 and October 1965 by former Motown hit maker Mary Wells, during her short tenure with 20th Century-Fox Record Corporation. Pulled from the second of the only two albums that she recorded with the company (the first P was reissued in 1966 on the 'Movietone' subsidiary label), Miss Wells cranked our a rocking, drum and horn filled version of the Beatles tunes, 'I Should Have Known Better' b/w 'Please Please Me'. Recorded in New York City at Bell Sound Studios, the Bernie Wayne production showcased deliciously orchestrated arrangements by Joe Mazzu. The 20th Century-Fox LP from which the tracks came, was entitled 'Love Songs To The Beatles' that managed to garner a release in both France and the United Kingdom. While the single and album failed to chart, they are top notch, slickly produced productions that are highly recommended.

I think Dee Dee Warrick met Mary Wells during a short collaboration with Motown in 1964 (Dee Dee recorded demos for Diana Ross and Martha and the Vandellas). Dee Dee Warrick also features background vocals on other Mary Wells songs: Mary Wells - Help! (1965), Mary Wells - Stop Takin' Me For Granted (1965), Mary Wells - Ain't It The Truth (1965) etc. I'm so thrilled that Dee Dee collaborated with such amazing ladies.

The album "Love Songs To The Beatles" (1965) also features background vocals from Pat Lewis, one of Motown's main background vocalists.

Discreta cover ma preferisco la versione originale dei Beatles per ritmo... chitarra .... ma la fisarmonica a bocca non si adattava a questo brano.

Dreary album of Beatle covers; not the right material for her. Oddly, the best track is one of the Beatles’ worst songs - ‘’Do You Want to Know a Secret’’ done up in a sexy, sensuous manner much more appropriate for Mary’s style.
