Tie old tin cans on the ends of the line next to the posts, when the deer push the line it will jingle on their left/right sides and spook them.
Wish you all the best with this patch! Hope you get the 1K pumpkins & that the barrier works...
If that works then that will be the best investment you will have made to that patch! Great thinking!
"its blazing hot, about 91F out here" lol
I do believe it will help . thanks for the video
Another thing you could do is get the yellow plastic roll like police use and tie pieces all around the fence, and stagger each line. That way the deer will see it. You could probably get it at a hardware store. Any color will do.
I saw another youtube video that said "the point is you do not want the deer to see it". So do not tie anything on the lines.
Looks great... we do what we can
seems like a good solution!
I'll say it like this, if it don't you didn't break the bank. I think it's a great idea. Good luck with all. Just keep us posted
So did it work? I have a month to figure something out. Definitely can't afford a big expensive solution.
I thought you would tie shiny ribbons on the string... but maybe that was to scare away birds. I cant remember
I see people do that also, I think the idea with this method is so the deer can't see it, if they can judge the height they will just jump over up to 10'
SSLFamilyDad yeah the fishing line is a smart and cheap option though
Go ARMY! Hope this works for you. Are you pruning those pumpkin vines?
Nope, I will see how these produce being able to root in along the vines and grow more than one pumpkin per vine
I get it. Pruning is a lot of work. I do it to my Veggie garden and get great results.
Should have tied some white cloth ties to the fishing line.
You need to wear a hat
I see through your clever ruse sir! The pumpkin patch is nothing more than an insurance policy to ensure a successful deer hunt!
Wow! I'm hoping I have good luck with this method. I have some beautiful David Austin roses that the deer have been munching on, GRRR! I'm desperate to find some deterrent to Stop them!! or I may have to have a fence built, I would rather not do that!
I use cheap balloons all over my patch and it works fine
Never saw that before! Hope it works out for you. How much are the pumpkins going to cost when you sell them?
Remains to be seen! I think you should've used wood chips between the rows and it might be a good idea to edit the tiny pumpkins out to send the energy to grow a big pumpkin per plant. Feed the culls to the pigs. My 2 cents! Well done!
Would love to see some pictures of the deer if you're able.
wow - 50 feet between posts?
Was it effective? Is there a follow up video?
makes sense to me, I think it would work. Not that this would work for you because your space is very big. But for others I heard if the space is small enough deer won't want to jump into it not knowing if they can get out. I have a smaller garden in my yard and tons of deer but they have never jumped over the 4-5' fence we have around it.
do you have an update? did this work well?
I use fishing line around my tomatoes, it works great to keep the evil deer away from them.
I use it to encicle my entire yard.
need to mow that hay field to suppress the weeds
If it would stop raining every other day I would!
Thank you
So how did this work for you?
did it work?
They are gonna get tangled up and make a mess with it. Exactly why I don't do a hot wire anymore. Got tired of fixing it all the time.
🤔 I wonder if it would help to build your deer deterrant fence like a boxing ring, with springs at the posts. That way, there'd be a little extra flex or streach in the lines. That might help prevent SOME of the breakage. I don't have any deer problem to try it on, but maybe one or more of your viewers will give it a try and let us know. 🤓 It could just turn out to be unnecessary work with no results, too. 😡
Worth a try! I'm interested in seeing the results!
Dave Sterchele l'm beginning to wonder if someone has already tried this. Maybe we'll find out in a later post.
Interesting! I have a 1000 foot garden in my backyard that rabbits occasionally get in to. I have a fence around it but they can squeeze through the slats. Might try stringing clear fishing line through them to see if that helps deter the bunnies without making it look bad. Could also create a flat triple row of fishing line along the outside that they might not feel comfortable hopping across?
That is certainly worth a try, with this 50lb line you can stretch it pretty tight and with a few strands an inch apart I'll bet bunnies would not get through
Peter Rabbit?
I had an electric fence using smooth wire...the only time I had problems was hunting season they would run threw it...sounded like a 22 being shot.
I've read about this. I have an "orchard" area I want to protect (apparently apple leaves are a delicacy = dead trees = no fruit!). Curious. You never know with google, etc.
This is a good idea. I think it will work. What about rabbits? I never attempted to grow pumpkins, but I think it will work growing other crops.
I've tried fishing line; electricity is your answer. t posts and a roll of wire, with either a solar or AC charger works best. Put some peanut butter on a slip of aluminum foil and wrap to the fence to encourage them to take a lick...once they ride the lightning they'll know to stay away.
Did you ever figure out an efficient way to water your pumpkins?
A good idea which I heard works. I also was told to tie some aluminum foil or pans to the line which creates noise. Hope it works for you.
Dangle old CD from line. Looks mysterious to wild life.
I certainly hope so as I was planing on trying this next year.
If it works cheap fix.
mmmmmmmmmmmm, venison ;)
Thank you 😊🌈
We are having a severe drought here in northeast Kansas also.
The ticks are horrible to, are they numerous in Michigan?
Haven't had any this year but did last year, they can get bad out in our wooded areas
I’m the fall take the line down and leave any pumpkins that rotted or whatever else and put you a deer stand in that woods line.... instant food plot for deer hunting
