I grew up in BC. Although there have always been hot temperatures and forest fires in the summer, I don't recall in all my 72 years of life the extreme heat snd fire situation that has been witnessed in the last couple of decades. The climate is definitely changing.
Weather warfare = NASA which is Not A Space Agency!!
Just found your site, excellent!
Thank you for interpreting the models into plain language for all of us.
I'm in West Kelowna. Terrified every single year now. Have my bag packed, but of course I keep thinking, I'm forgetting something!
Me too, after last year, I've been paranoid 😳
It really isn't that scary.
Kamloops here and I keep my list on my iPhone and my usual toiletries travel kit in my suitcase. I’m working on a plastic grab n go file box with the important papers.
Praying for you West Kelowna.
Sending hopeful thoughts from Oregon...for both of us.
Thanks so much for your forecasts 🥰 .... I like that .... Stay Brave! We can do this!
Of course! The northern hemisphere is coming out of an ice age and the southern hemisphere is going into its ice age! It is going to get warmer. The problem is borders that prevent people from migrating with the weather like they have since the beginning of time.
Hey Joey YT sent me your channel today I'm grateful. I live in a forest in the north Okanagan and its dry and has been for about 3 years. We have hit 40 degrees this July a few times already and its scary. I've never been in 40 degrees before and I'e lived here a long time. Just want to thank you for your time and plain english. I've subscribed. Be safe.
Thanks for always focusing on the northern part of BC! we don’t get any coverage of our actual weather! Government sends the troops south never north!
Thank you for the updates!
Appreciate the info and knowledge. Smokey in Lone Butte, some ash falling from the sky this eve.

Always appreciate the insights and knowledge. Sending safety your way as you move into your fire fighting roles too.
We just had a big thunder storm an hour ago in Mackenzie already. Blew through already.
Now we have smoke everywhere in town
Thanks Joey! :)
Most notably... there is still no rain in whatever area that is in my area of the BC Lower Mainland.
Cariboo in the mountains too, sad I just found you but happy I just found you!!
I'm in the puddle, we had about 2 hrs of rain this morning, couple of boomers . Then back up to the mid 30s
Are all these fires normal?! I mean, really i feel theyre being started purposely
Regardless of how they start, fires are not being fought adequately. I fought fire through the 80's ,90's and early 2000's. We never lost any homes, we never had towns burning down. Back then, Citizens were not forced to evacuate. They would be supplied with firefighting equipment and would assist in suppressing and containing fires near their communities when the fires first started and were still small.
@alstewart1186 great for you're service but the early 2000 is nothing compared to the work we all do now working with bcws so thanks for the work you did but these monsters are lot different from everything super dry and ready to blow
@pauly9540 Thank you for your reply. I worked in the forest industry for 23 years as a faller and spent many summers as a danger tree faller and firefighter. I fought my first fire as a teenager near Chillwack back in the day when the BC Forest Service would hire people off the street. My very first fire they put us in a helicopter and we toed in on the mountain side and put out a lightning strike.Let's put things in context and address some facts. Starting in the 1960s and through to the 90s, we were too effective at fighting fires and, to a large extent, eliminated fire from the landscape. During this same time frame, the focus on silviculture was to plant single species, even aged stands of timber. There was also a focus on eliminating and reducing the amount of hardwood species left to grow dispersed throughout the landscape. As a firefighter you are aware that even aged plantations of Fir or Pine that are thicker than hair on a dogs back and have limbs and branches right to the ground will burn hotter and more intense than an uneven aged, mixed species forest. I'm sure you are also aware that a stand of hard wood trees such as Alder, Birch, Poplar etc... will act as a natural fire break, and fires will not burn as hot or intense in this timber type. The suppression and reduction of fire from the landscape and the practice of planting even aged stands of timber did result in hotter more intense fires just as forest ecologists of the day predicted and warned about but were ignored. During this time frame, there was also a practice of slash burning. I won't get into the good the bad and the ugly of the controversy of slash burning but will relay my experience as a forest company employee who was tasked with putting out fires that escaped into the standing timber during slash burning activities. These fires were the result of monster fires that were intentionally lit by a helicopter with a drip torch and we were always able to go in and extinguish these fires from the slash burns that got into the surrounding timber. As logging company employee's we also did initial attack and put out fires that started from lightning strikes. As a logging crew with a logging superintendent calling the shots, we were very effective at putting out fires. Not only did we have the necessary firefighting equipment and tools readily available, our logging company fire boss and the crew had extensive knowledge of road access and water source locations. As a result, we were able to access fires and suppress and contain them in a timely and efficient manner. Out of town, province and country firefighters lack this knowledge and at the end of my time fighting fires, fire crews were spending a lot of time sitting around waiting for BCWS official to locate access points a water sources. I'm not saying there are not hard working firefighters these days who want to do the best job they can but my experience is, buruacraatic delays are hampering firefighting efforts in many cases There are many nuances and factors involved in firefighting, including terrain, timber types and available resources. To claim that all fires are monsters that can explode at any moment is erroneous and not based on the reality on the ground. Are some fires in certain Timber types, terrain and weather conditions too dangerous for firefighters to be working in? Absolutely. Can many fires be actioned safely and quickly by capable competent local residents who have the knowledge and appropriate firefighting equipment to suppress, contain and extinguish fires that start in the landscape near their communities? Yes. Throughout history, people have put out fires that threatened or could potentially threaten their homes and communities out of necessity and common sense. These day, many fires are not actioned in a timely manner and get out of control. As the past few years have demonstrated, the current approach to firefighting is resulting in to many homes, communities, and towns burning down and the landscape is being scorched. This is no longer acceptable. Change in firefighting policy is needed.
@alstewart1186 first id like to say my comment was not to be disrespectful towards you. But yes I totally agree with you in this story lol and yes there should be more locals fighting but alot of the time the ones fighting are the farmers and the ones that work hard and isn't afraid to sweat maybe get a little burn on they mits and that's why it's always out of town crews cause they pick the people that actually wanna get out and make a difference for themselves. So again thank you for the work you've done and now we're needing to change things I completely agree
@alstewart1186 I've worked with the red shirts and had some green rookies run our veteran crew that was axx backwards. The job to get into the reds is really high and it's tough to get into. I've been thinking of going into it as I work for sub contractors
Thanks. Just subscribed. Great channel.
Are you aware of Atmospheric Aerosol Dispersion ? Just wondering what your thoughts might be on that.
Fantastic. Im at Dry Gulch B.C. .Glad UA-cam sent your channel to me.
Stay safe up there are YOU evacuating? Or fighting the fire
Holy crap brother just heard wells and barkerville got evacuated. you stay safe my friend. I've known you long enough to know you will stay safe but still bro stay safe.
You are kind of focusing on the weather in Northern B.C. What is it going to be like near kamloops, Salmon Arm and Shuswap region
It’s as if that’s where he lives! Wow shits crazy!
I'm focusing on where the weather is most likely going to be happening is the thing. Lesser risk in the Shushwap.
@@JoeyOnly Sounds good. So in this case "no news is good news" for us! Thanks so much for keeping us informed.
Northern BC? Jeez, the Caribou is central BC.
I live in the BC Peace, I live in northern BC.

Thanks for all you do, Joey, from a fellow Cariboo-ite that approves of your colourful language. As George Carlin famously said, "I think the word fuck is a very important word. It's the beginning of life." 😄
