Roadtripping Bulgaria | Wes Anderson Style

- LONG STORY SHORT:
You ever drive a 40 year old car across an entire country? Along with a friend, we decided to take the classic LADA 1500 from 1972 on a drive across our home country, filming everything in as close to a Wes Anderson Style as possible.
FULL EXPLANATION:
Ever since I was a kid, the idea of driving an old soviet vehicle across my home country Bulgaria enticed me. There was a certain kind of magic and, of course, adventure to the fact that you're never really sure with a car like this whether you'll make it to your next destination in the way you planned. And so, after many years of putting it off, this summer, along with my closest friend we decided to go on that adventure. Perhaps the most incredible thing about driving a car like this, is the fact that you not only have to focus on the steering and shifting of gears, but on the amount of water under the hood, and the amount of air (yes air) you're allowing into the engine at any point. Too little air and it essentially stalls out. However, despite all of the short comings of this vehicle, it was one of the most memorable roadtrips I've ever had. The people we met entirely based on the fact that they themselves were thrown back into childhood memories and experiences of their own along with their grandparents, parents, or family members. It was truly an eye opening experience that even something as simple as the car you drive opens up doors into the hearts and minds of people you would have never met otherwise.
