There is somthing called " dig" in crawling and allows you to lock your rear wheels and drive your front while turning so you can kind of pivot your front end around. It may help on the tight turns. Also when you do rear steer it can help a lot to have it independently controlled from the front so you can crab walk or only turn the rear to get around some objects.
Going to be implementing these for my next Scrap Mechanic crawler build for sure. Is there a preferred suspension setup for IRL crawlers or does it vary a lot?
@DigitalJedi mine is pretty stock set up. Up and down really. But you want them to be at an angle... like for front shock angled forward like 30-40 degrees ish. Not sure. But that will give you more articulation " flex " to help keep wheel contact. High belly Tires in front of bumpers. Low center of gravity. So light up top and Heavy in axles These are just my opinions though.
Man, the time and dedication it must have taken to make this is awe inspiring. But then that miniature model of the entire thing popping out had me grinning like a child. Nice crawler scrapman, would love to see you do this again with some of the fan suggestions!
Hey Scrapman, In real life, 4-wheel steering is almost always implemented with half or less of the front's steering angle for the rear. I dunno about Scrap Mechanic, but in Trailmakers, something like 30° front and 10-15° rear works really well. You get the benefits of all-wheel steering in terms of sharpness, but you also don't get the rear end swinging out so wide around corners. Since there's always at least some slip angle, having lower angle on the rear wheels actually ends up making it track much closer to putting the rear tread marks right on top of the fronts. It also just feels a lot more intuitive since most cars have front steering only. Similarly, when I have 6 or more wheels, I offset the steering angle symmetry to be between the middle and rears, so for six wheels, for example, from front to rear, 30°, 10°, -10°, or 30°, 5°, -20°
On top of the suggestions already offered here, adding pistons to each wheel for independent suspension height may have made some of those parts where you almost flipped over less likely.
@Cax.S Actually, yeah, I've been doing fine. I took a heavy blow a few months ago, but thanks to a bit of therapy and the continuous care of my girlfriend, I'm standing on my own two feet, happy and content with where I am in life. Again, thanks for asking. It warms my heart to know that the internet is full of kind and mindful people.
Fun fact: Based on the ISRCC rules, your first run was actually a successful run at ca 8,5 minutes. Every Gate you pass is -2 on the score board, hitting a gate or boundary marker is 10 points each. And reverse is 1 point each. A run only counts as DNF if you get 40 points at the same time, or if you take more than 10 minutes. So you actually finished that run below 0 points, which is really good for your first run.
For those of you that really enjoyed this video and felt a strange satisfaction, you couldn't quite place your finger on it. I'd like to suggest to you a fun but expensive hobby of RC Rock Crawling. If you enjoy mechanical things and taking things apart and modifying things. This is a hobby for you to check out. Feel free to ask any questions. I wish someone had introduced me to Tiny Trucks at a much younger age. Many of you, at this point, might be thinking of cheap Walmart-brand RC cars. What I'm referring to is, in many cases, 1:10 scale licensed truck parts. This is the world of Hobby RC. Join me in the rabbit hole MWahahahahhaha
I havn't done any rock crawling, but i have done some offroad, and hung around offroad guys. I also love cars and designing... and that's one reason why I got Scrap mechanic myself. Well Some of kAN's creations got me getting it... Anyhow, I'd say the largest issue of your designed rock crawler, was the wheelbase. While it would have helped if yuo would have had literally vertical steps around 2-3 blocks high to go up from flat ground. but for everything else, it was excessive. That you countered with 4 wheel steering, which definitely has it's upsides, but in my "very expert" opinion 2-4 block shorter wheelbase would have been noatable benefit, and if added with 4 wheel steering where rear wheels turn less would have been all around better solution.
I love how the course has a lot of clearly designed shortcuts that are either high-risk or just straight hard to get through. Sad that Scrapman didn't notice and/or commented on that.
A shorter wheelbase may have helped as the rear wheels would cut in less reducing the need for 4 wheel steering, It would also reduce the risk of grounding out the modle of tge vehicle, One massive example was at the end of the log bridge you couldn't turn until the front was nearly off the cliff, if the creation was shorter you could have started turning much sooner, also the cone knocked off in the first run may not have been hit as you could have been passed it by the time you were leaning over.
I think in your earlier attempts, you really underestimated how sharp your vehicle could turn with the 4 wheel steering. You got it locked in by the last run though. Nice
day 55 of asking scrapman to do a multiplayer where everyone starts at the crashed ship with a craftbot already at the mechanic station and everyone has 30 minutes to build a vehicle from scratch, no glitches, thrusters allowed, after which everyone meets up and races along some road
Hi scrapman! Can you play the sun shake factory invasion challenge. The challenge involves a story about a town and an evil company called Sun Shake. It also contains three bosses!
Hi Scrapman, you could make another video on this kind of concept and if you can make a 4x4 with the most realistic shock absorber system possible if not continue like this !
It'd be cool if they hooked something up to the cone sensors so that for every cone knocked off, something happens farther down the course than makes it harder to pass.
Professional crawlers have independent rear and front steering and VERY (and I can't stress this enough), VERY long suspension travel. If you had made your steering independent front to back this course would have been a ~cake~ crab walk
Day 151 of Asking scrapman to make a Machine that make that uses the steal balls and magnets to make the steal ball orbit around your creation with out any thing touching them and try to take out a building with it in instruments of destruction
i've actually played this rock crawler challenge and i can say that its both fun and yet challenging🙂, one of the best challenges i have played in a while😉
Definitely would have liked to see a more sophisticated suspension design here. Yes the course was cool but should have put a little pizazz on the build.
This would have made for a great Multiplayer Monday, everyone must build a vehicle within a time limit and only testing on that first (technically last) ramp, before racing them to see who can do it the fastest.
soon as i hit the "nooooo (fails) (retries)" part of the video i had to quickly pause to write this comment (to help the algorythem) and like the vid, as he earnt it in spades as he normally does by never giving up.
The build is epic u r really good at creating stuff I would recommend “Stormworks Build and Rescue” it’s a good building game I have 9k hours in the game btw
Hi scrap man I just wanted to ask u said u would do music under a name in the future in a trailmakers video. Any updates on it would be much appreciated. LOVE FROM DUBAI
Skid steering isn't actually that great for something like this. Dragging your wheels around sideways to turn can get you stuck against the sides of things and then you can't turn. The beat option here is fully independent front and rear steering to enable crab walking.
As someone who does rock crawling and off road irl I can say this corse is well designed. I will I had a small scale version of it for my rc stuff
Oh have you also seen the tweet saying that you should start saying i will instead of i wish?
@nuclearhamster lol. No it's a miss spell. But if you edit it you lose your YT heart.
I have a injured hand so it happens lol
@nuclearhamster but I like the " I will" thing. And I am building a curse so maybe I will add some of these obstacles into it.
I did think at times it looked like an advertisement for some very expensive RC toy from the 70s or 80s.
Yoooo Munk what’s cracking brother

Independent rear steering would’ve been another option. That way you can put all four tires exactly where you want them

Sound design is mint on this ep. SM, you always do really well at that, but this is master class in sound design.
I feel like we fought with you in that one lol
Well he is a music artist. Did u forget?
You should test workshop rock crawlers on this course! Amazing video
That would be a great Multiplayer Monday Challenge. Maybe a bit shorter. But would be nice. 🙂
The confidence you have in your vehicle by the end compared to the beginning

If not for your daily uploads my mental stability would probably be at risk, so thanks Scrapman!
just checking up on a stranger, one year later. Hope your mental health has been good lol.

@@coolpandaguy you're welcome! What you said hit home with me lol. i feel like i can relate and figured id check in on ya.

This would be awesome for a multiplayer monday challenge.
0:43 "But not only- oh no" it's the little well- timed edits that make me chuckle 😆
Making terrain in scrap mechanic is a pain and is time consuming, and this maps terrain looks awesome!
And now do it in first person :D
Also, independent rear steering would be better.
Scrapman has nightmares of a world without wedges
I liked this one a lot! Please use this vehicle exactly as is in some other off road challenges
that map! and land rover! awesome! :3 love it
One man, one cone, one adventure.
That course looks so dope I wish I could make something to that detail
I havn't done any rock crawling, but i have done some offroad, and hung around offroad guys.

Yay another challenge keep it up scrapman

My survival truck has 4 wheel steering, and I can't survive without it!
4 Wheel steering is a game changer. GG ScrapMan.
I think in your earlier attempts, you really underestimated how sharp your vehicle could turn with the 4 wheel steering. You got it locked in by the last run though. Nice

Nice crawlar and video👌👍🇸🇪
Hi scrapman! Can you play the sun shake factory invasion challenge. The challenge involves a story about a town and an evil company called Sun Shake. It also contains three bosses!
There are ten levels with bosses and puzzles.
nice build the 4 wheel steering definitely came in handy
Great tune durin the timelapse :)
A quick idea if you do this again: Add the ability to disable front steering and disable front wheels from accelerating.
Day 39 of asking for Workshop Hunters in Trailmakers
He already does that
He just hasn't done it resent but he has done it MANY times
Good luck for your century.
Bro means workshop hunters wktb da bois (kan, and cosmo)
Scrapman is the most dedicated to making amazing content, of any youtuber I have ever seen.
Dang that cone was BRUTAL.
Loved the vid Scrapman! Can you continue doing these off-road challenges in Scrapmechanic? I think they are very enjoyable to watch and many others.
The winning time was 5:28:175 for scrap man CONGRATS!
Can we just appreciate how much effort he puts into his videos.

soon as i hit the "nooooo (fails) (retries)" part of the video i had to quickly pause to write this comment (to help the algorythem) and like the vid, as he earnt it in spades as he normally does by never giving up.
you could make a not very long six-wheeled car with tank control and not worry about cones and sharp turns at all))
Noti gang yes sir
This should have been a multiplayer Monday
WEGE GANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kinda hoping for some double wishbone suspension action.
Maybe you could make a new base in scrap mechanic with Kan and Moonbo could share. What do you think?
day one of asking scrapman more workshop hunters
Fools, that was a hint for his next album name, Catarinth - Flippin' Cones
Scrapman is that kid that got 98% in math and still cried
i just realized you used the music from the mars series around when you tipped over your first cone
Hey SM you should try some of the BMG Drive vehicle parcure boards they are very challenging
you should do a 100 days video in preparation for chapter two.
Dude u should try beam ng and try those people made maps like this :)
Great. bug splat while building.
MM challenge: everyone gets one wheel to control on the rock crawler.
I really want u to bring back
Workshop hunters
The build is epic u r really good at creating stuff I would recommend “Stormworks Build and Rescue” it’s a good building game I have 9k hours in the game btw
Look at the right side of the screen at 20:53 the wall comes down maybe your supposed to go up it once it’s down
Hi Scrapman😆
Aesthetics = No Go Showboat.
Nice
I'd like to see how impossible it is for him doing this in first-person. Even after completing and knowing the map, I bet it would be hard
A stabilizer bar will help lessen body roll… irl though.
I would have set up the rear steering to be both independent and combined
Am I first!!! Also supringly nice map
edit: Also could have just added and extra set of rear controls to be a bit simpler lol
Will there be more roboco i love the series
Yes
can you do this in first person
awsome video btw
You should recreate the bonney gull plane
Time to go off-roading for real.
It was, infact, the one
Hi scrap man I just wanted to ask u said u would do music under a name in the future in a trailmakers video. Any updates on it would be much appreciated. LOVE FROM DUBAI
it has been out for a while look up "Catarinth"

The beat option here is fully independent front and rear steering to enable crab walking.
if Kan played this map: DOUBLE WISHBONE GO BRRRRT
you should do a trailmakers devolution video where you take away a 2 blocks each round and the winner gets 2 blocks to put on the vehicle
looks like someone took what he learned from botfactory challenge and put it to good use XD
What’s the music after you hit the first cone? I really want that music
It’s all good until you realize there aren’t any bearings for you to use at least that’s how it was when I tried it
Little bit of aesthetics....suddenly it`s a Fiat Multipla
o o f i'd rather look at the bare bones brick than that thing

so, i almost know nothing abt this stuff but would tank steering not have been better for this?
anyone else see that huge sortcut on the top if the hill that bypasses the u-turn?
Day 302 of asking for more workshop hunters, and day 303 of asking for more brick rigs
For all of you that wants any of these you can help too
You neade to try playing stormworks its a scrapmechanic but in watter and better
rock
