    Hi Lilly. I once capsized in rapids canoeing by myself and badly cut my foot on glass when I landed in the water. I wasn't wearing shoes. I severed the tendons of my third and fourth toes, and now I can't pull them down. Emergency surgery didn't reattach them for me, just saved my life. If I hadn't tied a bandana around my foot, I would've gotten so much dirt in it on my way back to camp that it would have gone septic. And if I wasn't out there with electricians who had tape with them, I probably would have bled out.I was very happy to see that you weren't hurt, and I wish you the same luck at every turn, but sport sandals are the way to go in water, and they aren't that heavy in your pack. Take good care, and thanks for all of these wonderful videos. You're the best at these, so keep it up.

We had lived in the wildernesses of the world a whole lot longer than we have with the toaster. It just feels so natural to us as humans to step back and get back to it. Good job young Miss!

    If you really need fish hooks, look for cedar, redwood, pine, or spruce. Cut needle length and thin slivers. Boil to softness, then bend into fish hook shape and allow to cool. Could put them into the cold water. Can also fire harden for total hardness and tension. Make the fish tip notch for the hook, and a shaft notch to tie on the fishing line.

    Hey Lilly, you are inspiring me to get back to nature. I'm 52 years old, but was in the army in my 20's and my dad is a retired marine who loved camping and often took our family on camping trips. I miss that simple living!! I am glad that you are not afraid of spiders and night sounds! That is the way humans lived up until recently and I think that it is time to get back to nature.

    You look so happy here! It's amazing what a day of being out in nature can do for the mind and spirit. Recently some friends and I went hiking and spent the day foraging berries and greens and it was a great break from all that's going on in the world right now. This video also goes to show the value of good tools and I hope people don't miss that. I've seen people break cheap knives batoning firewood like that. A good knife is worth it's weight in gold.

    You brought one fishing hook and no spork? (spoon + fork = spork.) A fundamental survival principle is, "two is one and one is none." FYI: If you need to measure something in the bush use one of the hacks: 1. a dollar bill is 6". 2. measure something which you always have with you i.e. the arm of you eyeglasdes, the length of you hand or the length of a favorite pocket knife blade you always carry.

    Next time for cleanup carry a small tarp or a small garbage bag it would be a simple thing to scoop up some water bring it back to Camp with you and then put one foot in at a time and clean up and you can always use the muddy water to extinguish your fire later on
    I always have two large contractor size trash bags which can be used for Poncho's in a emergency and a couple of smaller trash can liners for cleanup

    Wow your camping capabilities and competence is awsome! When I camp with someone I almost always end up doing everything which is why I need to camp alone sometimes. If you have a lot of hard wood deadfall find a strong forked tree to snap fire wood by placing the thick end in first and snap chunks off down to the thin end because you lose leverage as it gets shorter. Faster than hand cutting.

    Can't stand being out in the woods and seeing trash. Scumbags drag the container in heavier w liquid or whatever in it but when what they need is done just toss it, even cigarette but for that matter. Quick degrading items such as fruit peels or papertowels/tp is one thing and should be put where nobody with discover but that even sucks. Broken glass is bs and the person that did it should be cut themselves. My dog was cut very badly by an a$$hole who did that and if I knew who id make karma strike them back. Ok end of my rant.

    • @StraightFiya

      Bill fruit peels? That's good for the soil tho, i think, itll break down and give nutrients to the ground.

      Glass is pretty bad but tbh, i dont mind cans or anything like that, because i can use that.

    • @wgrillojr
      @wgrillojr 6 років тому

      I know in a survival situation a can could be very helpful. You could make a stove, fish hook or even a reflector but if you know how to do that and there is a possibility you will be in a bad situation you probably have the stuff to make it through or can make it from natural items already. Is that what you mean by using the can or do you use them for other purposes? I just hate being out enjoying nature and seeing garbage, cigarette butts included and I smoke. But to me any item that can especially cause a wound that doesn't belong there shouldn't be tossed.

    • @wgrillojr
      @wgrillojr 6 років тому

      Fruit peels to me are ok to toss as well as paper towels and tp but should be put out of sight or buried if you're on a trail. Anything that quickly biodegrades. Never understood the picking up dog poop in a plastic bag tieing it then tossing it into the trees? If that's the case why don't people just grab leaves and toss it out of the walking area?

    • @camerong7365
      @camerong7365 6 років тому +1

      @@wgrillojr Yeah i agree, also i do use cans for that purpose. Things like cigarette butts and glass are just bad. My woods is completely infested with glass bottles.

One suggestion, for dipping into the stream in the future, how about throwing a pair of "dock shoes" in your duffle as well? They're small and light weight, AND should provide some protection when walking on the river bed floor. At least that's my 2 cents worth. :) Thnx, and looking forward to more great Vids from you!

    Enjoyed the video. Can't do an open shelter like that here in south central Louisiana because you would have a water moccasin snake trying to stay warm inside the sleeping bag or blanket. I have those where I practice with my equipment once a week along with alligator 🐊. I have to be careful and watch what I do. I have a 4 person Swiss Gear tent that I sleep in and I can put my pack and other things with me at night. I always leave a medium size fire burning all night to keep animals away. Have to use a warm weather sleeping bag here. Been going in the woods once a week for the last 32 years. I enjoy it. Great job on the video. Enjoyed.
