PLC Trainer - Festo Handling Station

There are three Festo Didactic Meclabs - the conveyor, stacking station, and handling stations. This video shows the handling station, its operation, and control using an Automation Direct PLC. The video demonstrates the actual operation along with an explanation of the inputs and outputs. Additional information is provided about the types of valves used in this system.

A few years ago when i was programming this very system I didn't know how to use sensor inputs so i had this going on a timed delay loop. That is not a good way to have these run, because since you're basically taking a machine which has closed loop feedback and completely removing it's feedback. So what ended up happening was that after a few cycles the timing of the pneumatic cylinders went out of sync and the entire machine bent one of it's brackets without knowing and kept going until it tore itself from the base plate it was sitting on. A lesson was learnt that day - ignorance is bliss, but feedback is important!
