@Aiden Taylor after reading tons of comments spamming about something called siren head and how it was thought to be in chicago, I did some research and therefore felt the need to reference it in this video

I knew about this long before Siren Head was even a thing- but I still wondered, what exact siren is it, why is it running alternate wail, and is it still there?
The exact siren doing this isn't just one individual one, but many. The federal signal modulators and DSAs in downtown chicago are responsible for running the alternate wail. It may have been a programming issue or it may have been done intentionally to allow people to tell the difference between ambient city noises or emergency vehicle sirens, or the actual outdoor warning sirens. All of Chicago's modulators and DSA sirens are still there, but they no longer run the alternate wail.
The title and cover photo are very easy clickbait so that should get some viewers. Plus the whole siren head shebang is popular right now so it should get some views
In some cases, the Alternate Wail signal can be made on some older Federal Signal Sirens. However, because they create sound like the FS 2001 Siren, it sounds off... Great Video, I didn't know people thought Chicago added the Wail to scare everyone😂
Was it ever explained why Chicago did an alternate wail? Working under the assumption that they were going off for a tornado, why weren't they doing the alert siren instead?
That question I cannot answer for sure. My guess as to why they did alternate wail instead of alert is because the city wanted people to be able to tell between the sirens and ambient city noise
When outside the city in the suburbs, you can find other sirens like thunderbolts, t-128s, rm130s, whelens, cyclones, banshees, sth10s, and p series sirens
Thats cool. Its sad that they're being phased out though. I do travel to see sirens in the suburbs of Chicago sometimes to see them operate on test days, and I've been to a few thunderbolts, p-15s, and p-50s
@@thespiritstingray9359 there used to be a p50 by our house, but they replaced it with a t135 ac/dc in 2017 due to the p50 not having a back up battery, but hot damn were those monsters were loud
Siren head is a fictional monster created in 2018 by Trevor Henderson. Siren head hunts humans by luring them out into the woods via a variety of strange noises, but most commonly United States Emergency Alert System message tones or sirens performing the alternate wail signal. Siren head was designed to stand at roughly 40 feet tall, and it usually stays in heavily wooded areas such as dense forests where it can disguise itself among the trees. From there, it plays its sounds, waiting for a curious human to walk by it and when an unfortunate victim walks by, the siren head snatches them up and consumes them. Siren head has a humanoid shape, with all 4 limbs and a human shaped thorax made of a skeleton covered in mummified skin. In place of a human head/skull however, there is a shaft and 2 horn structures with teeth inside them, presumably to allow for the consumption of humans (thats what the story is according to Trevor Henderson). If this scares you, remember that siren head is a fictional creature, therefore it does not actually exist... Or at least it hasn't been proven to exist (Just kidding, no legitimate reports of any sightings exist as of today)

Theyre all presumed to be inactive. There were some from Chicago's system in Evanston (they were thunderbolts, installed by the city of Chicago for evanston) that made it all the way to 2020. I was able to film 4 of them operating. Now they have been removed and replaced, and all that's left is a few of the old ones from Chicago. There is one thunderbolt that MAY be active, but there is no legitimate recordings of it operating

It may have been a programming issue or it may have been done intentionally to allow people to tell the difference between ambient city noises or emergency vehicle sirens, or the actual outdoor warning sirens. All of Chicago's modulators and DSA sirens are still there, but they no longer run the alternate wail.
Thanks for the video. I keep seeing comments on some siren UA-cam videos on the alternate wail and kids commenting 'OMG!!! SiReN HeAd'
Thank you for making this, he tries to scare people with the Chicago wail
If siren head was real Trevor Henderson said he does a lot of sounds like white noise however none ever said about the alternate wail
I hope people see this video
The title and cover photo are very easy clickbait so that should get some viewers. Plus the whole siren head shebang is popular right now so it should get some views
So do I. I will share it round.
5:53 alternate-wail signal sounds more creepy with reverb)))
I bet the only thing scarier for a Chicago resident would be realizing you're a Chicago resident.
Legendary comment
😂❤
In some cases, the Alternate Wail signal can be made on some older Federal Signal Sirens. However, because they create sound like the FS 2001 Siren, it sounds off... Great Video, I didn't know people thought Chicago added the Wail to scare everyone😂
Was it ever explained why Chicago did an alternate wail? Working under the assumption that they were going off for a tornado, why weren't they doing the alert siren instead?
That question I cannot answer for sure. My guess as to why they did alternate wail instead of alert is because the city wanted people to be able to tell between the sirens and ambient city noise
Thank you for making this.
thank God somebody made a fucking video clarifying this I'm so tired of people asking what siren head is and why every siren sounds like him
Same here bro. Glad I could help
When I was in Hawaii, they use those sirens for Tsunamis.
I am pretty sure they use Modulators
@@doohickey-enjoyer yes they do
Mods and tbolts
@@BRISTOLFORCE2009 yep
They also use EOWS
I have heard an alternate wail siren in the area of Selkirk NY in the recent months. Scared the heck out of me at night
Now I gotta learn more about siren head!
Or at least it hasn't been proven to exist
(Just kidding, no legitimate reports of any sightings exist as of today)
@@thespiritstingray9359 Key word:Yet. Sorry for this comment. It would be scary to hear about a sighting of Siren Head
Thank you. Now i shouldnt get hundreds of kids commenting siren head on my videos.
Glad I saved you from your phone exploding lol
@@thespiritstingray9359 I turned off my notifications because i was already getting millions of notifications already lmao.
Those "kids" made you more relevant than you ever have been or ever will be, even if only for a very brief period of time. Though, I do find it hilarious how egotistical so many of you siren fanboys are in these comments.
I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by the obscene amount of ego in these comments by losers like you, obsessing over sirens to the point of making a channel dedicated to it clearly demonstrates stunted mental development.
can we get a DL link for that alt wail demo audio file/generator? id love to have that for loudspeaker testing! :D
Yay thank you you save civil defence community tysm
I love those Alternating wail electronic sirens/modulating siren.
I may be alone but I never thought those sirens sounded creepy I just thought they sounded ridiculous
You aren't alone, I share the same opinion.
It's fun to prank people in the street with playing that sound.
You know, we're all lucky siren head chose the chicago siren, what would've been more terrifying is him rickrolling us
good sharing!
Thanks!

"***EDIT: The sound between 0:10 and 0:26 Has been muted due to a copyright claim. Supposedly a music group owns that sound track now, and I cannot use it in the video. Sorry in advance. A link to the original video has been provided below.***"
What kind of dumb person would copyright claim the sound of a FEDERAL SIGNAL siren???!? It's not even an original work. Unless Federal Signal themselves claimed the audio, no one should have the ability to claim the sound.
It was a music group, not federal signal. I may end up reporting them and seeing where it can get me
@@thespiritstingray9359 Yep, I understand that. I'm betting it's probably the music group that used the alternate wail sound in one of their songs.
That music group should technically pay respects to Federal Signal for inventing Alternate Wail.
I am among Siren fans
8:49 actually some of the sirens from the Cold War era are still up, most inactive, but some are still active
There is an active thunderbolt 1003 according to the siren map, but then again it got some things wrong. I think it’s active

In Chicago You don't have to be scared of tornedos becouse Siren sounds will scare the shit out of already.
Now that I think of it, there haven't been any tornadoes in the downtown area so...
I lived in a small town in Ohio. When I was 4 years old thare was a tornado warning. I remember looking of my grandmother's front porch and hearing the sound get increasingly louder than quieter. I never that much of it recently untill my friend showed me a video of siren head then it all came back. I started doing research and i remember seeing Thunderbolt and EOWS sirens scared around. I stumbled across a video of a EOWS 612 recored by youtuber siren1000t in Lovina MI. So the siren in question is a EOWS 612. I went to the park near my grandmother's house where I herd the siren in found a American Signal T128 in its place. I would honestly like to own a EOWS siren.
Thats cool. As for owning an EOWS siren, it might be possible to obtain one at some point. Im not 100% sure, but I think west shore services in Allendale, MI might have an EOWS 612 there. I'll have to look again at recent pictures to confirm this
@@thespiritstingray9359 Are you sure the siren in Chicago is a modulator. Because in the video it kind of sounds like the siren is rotating. I'm new to this so I might have no idea what im talking about.
@@Aa-zp5kn yes it is a modulator. I included a picture of a chicago modulator (2 of them, actually) in the video. Plus, ive been to chicago numerous times, and I've seen most of Chicago's sirens
@@thespiritstingray9359 Okay. Thank you.
Here in Milford CT we have Whelen WPS2805 sirens used for flash flood warnings. They sound off a wail tone followed by a pre recorded voice message
Sweet
I love your channel keep up the good work
Thank you!
Their sirens are both cool and creepy simultaneously.
Lol
I 100% agree. Even though I hear sirens often, their sound still scares me to some extent
Where did you get the pure signal for the sound at 5:41? I want that for my wake up alarm.
