This video warmed my heart so much. It’s so lovely to see how you’ve made a small space so cosy and your own. And I love your grateful and accepting attitude towards the inconveniences that came with a place that is not perfect. In the past two years, I’ve been so unhappy with my 12m2 dorm room with shared kitchen, toilet and shower. But I needed to stay because the rent was cheap (200€ including utilities in a student town in Germany). I’ve gone through many moments of frustration, going online to check out apartments that I can’t afford just yet and ranting to my friends. While my struggles are valid, watching this cute video has shown me that it is possible to be happy with less. So I thank you, you’re a lovely person.

YESSS GINGER SPICE!! Love that you left that lock of silver in the front! Your apartment feels so fun and peaceful. Thank you for sharing your home with us 💖 I’m in the Seattle area and the average rent for a studio here is $1600. My only non-negotiable here is that I can afford it
same, I live in Seattle too. you can find studios there in the $1000 range IF you qualify for low income benefits. I usually just rent a room in a shared space to keep cost down.
Paris is actually cheaper than I thought. I expected renting prices to be similar to those in London where you can have only a room for that price. Also your flat may seem to be small but it's totally adorable.
Paris has THOUSANDS of what used to be maids’ rooms for the lower floor apartments. They’re called ‘chambres de bonne.´ That famous Paris-style building (a Haussmanian building) with a shop on the bottom floor, five floors of apartments, then a sloped roof with attic windows? Under that sloped roof are the ‘chambers de bonne.’ If they’re at least 9 square meters (about 100 sq ft) you can rent them out, They rent for about $600 a month, usually to students, artists, or people will rent them to use as a person office. Renting anything else in Paris is NOT cheap, it’s a very expensive city. There are a zillion rules about renting chambres de bonne, if they’re one centimeter under 9m it’s ILLEGAL to rent them out and the city takes it very seriously. Two people can’t live in one unless it’s at least 15m. If it’s 12m on the floor but there are only 7m where you can stand up, it’s illegal to rent it. Paris chambres de bonne are a whole phenomenon in themselves.
The plant in the corner is an Aloe ..great to heal wounds especially helpful with burns ...so perfect in the Kitchen x Pretty sure the shower is up high so they did not have to break through the flooring (probably cement) and just put the pipes along floor
Me and my dog just moved into our very first own apartment in Berlin 3 days ago! I got so excited when your video popped up, I really love what you created with your space
I just recently discovered your channel yesterday, and I have binged watched 10 of your videos! I am loving the inspiration, creativity, and vulnerability of this channel so much. As a creative writer, this means so much to me as I relate to artists in so many ways! I cannot wait to see what more you have to offer. I love that you made this place a home and filled it with your art, plants and of course your beautiful energy, it has so much charm. I was so shocked how cheap apartments are here in France although pay here isn’t that great. I live in Aix en Provence and pay 750€ including utilities and a garage, my non negotiable is lighting! Lighting brings me so much joy. Happy Tuesday Shayna, can’t wait to see your video when you buy your first place!

Living in Berlin and I pay 800€ for 63 m2 with a balcony 🦋Berlin is definitely a cheap and peaceful big city, there is so much nature and green areas 🍀🌸🌞
I thought Berlin is more expensive now. I've heard about dramatic rise of prices for renting but 800 euro for 63m2 still sound cheap. By the way, I love Berlin. It really is such a cool city and I found it beautiful as well.
I moved to Berlin in January and pay 500 for 12 m2 in wedding, it’s madness but I don’t know how to find anything else, and I genuinely struggled to find this…. :( do you have any tips?

Posted 2 minutes ago lol,, I've never clocked a video so fast ngl. I like in South Korea! We pay about $500 a month, but you have to pay a shitload of money up front here lol. I thought apartments in Korea were small, but this is super tiny! It's so charming, the vibes in here look immaculate. I bought a little monstera because I always loved seing it so much in her videos :')
I'm obsessed with your pants in this video!!!! I was going to say they are very Ann Hall and then you showed your love for Diane Keaton and her memoir on your shelf! So cool! Love your apartment! Love you beautiful human!
Would love to see a video on what you spend in a week! And your apartment might be small but it is literally the cutest with all that storage space. I loved every little detail and the way you personalized your space 💗 not having a toilet of my own is non-negotiable for me, but kudos to you for actually managing without one!
Is your fireplace still usable? It's so wonderful and nostalgic. I visited Paris once and stayed at the apartment of a friend, who is now living outside of Paris...she had her shower in the middle of the room! With glass doors. It was so funny staying there, with the kitchen next to the shower. We could literally watch each other showering and making breakfast at the same time 😂 It was a small apartment as well but I loved it. And there was a old fireplace, but it didn't work anymore and she used it as a bookshelf 🤍 so wonderful I'm living in the countryside of Germany and the rent can be so different. But I would say it's pretty normal to pay around 600 or 700 (without the power) for a 2 or 3 room apartment (+ kitchen and bath) (Edit...per month) and we are having a fireplace oven (dont know the name in english) to bring warmth in the cold month. The apartment we had before, we had the toilet outside on the doorway as well. I grew up with this. It was pretty normal in Germany I would say. Have a wonderful day, Shayna. I love your apartment. You made it really your own place 🤍✨
My husband and I pay 1k for a 3 “bedroom” apartment. Our building was built in the late 1850s so bedrooms were only used for a bed. We turned the third bedroom into a walk-in closet/storage room. Tons of light for my plants. It’s about a 10 minute train ride to downtown Chicago.
Your videos really makes it feel less lonely to be perusing an art career, thank uuu💕 I’m living in Sweden in a apartment that cost 350€ per month. I do live in the country side now but I was still super lucky to have found this place😌💕
I lived in Dublin for half a year and the housing situation there is BAD. I was paying €550 for a 4-5m^2 bedroom at someone's house, where I shared a bathroom and kitchen with 3 other people and we couldn't flush the toilet between 10pm-7am to avoid waking everyone else up. The walls were paper thin and I could literally hear the person living next to me YAWN. Now I'm living in Antwerp and people here complain about the "high prices", but you could easily get a whole apartment for yourself for €600 or so.
I bought my first home this past year in New Orleans, Louisiana because it was cheaper than renting for me. I recently learned how tough it is to go through a major natural disaster (thanks hurricane Irma) as a home owner. I miss renting in New Orleans in times like this, which I never thought I'd say after buying! My non- negotiables in renting in New Orleans was always the lighting, because I'm obsessed with house plants and need lots of natural light to make my home feel cozy. Also like Shayna said- the vibe has to be right. You know when something feels off or when it feels inviting and warm. My favorite part of the house I bought is that there is one tiny stained glass window in the house that is so unique and at the right time of day you can see the colors reflecting through my kitchen from the sunlight shining through it.
France itself feels homey. Even if you aren't French or does not speak Francais, there is a certain warmth there that speaks to you and you recognize it.
I love how tiny everything is, and tiles ⬜️🔳, shower, BOOKCASE 📓📖, vase. This studio is so charming - a dream. Your French is amazing! The gold star system 🥺. Actually no, you are a dream.

Possibly at a laundromat? Or laundry in a different floor of the apt? I live in NYC not Paris but I know it’s uncommon to have laundry in the apartment in large cities
I absolutely love the new hair!! This video made me realize how I could be doing my part time job I have now and afford to live with your rent. I live in California and rent here is crazy (about $1000-$1200 for a studio)
Honestly I have such fond memories of living in small studios in Paris. Being tucked under the roof they feel like a sort of nest from where I would plan how to take over the world 😂. Oh the good times! I love your home ❤️
I love your apartment! It reminds me of my first studio apartment, which I still miss sometimes - it was so cute and cosy! I’m very relieved to hear the awful neighbour is gone. You don’t need that kinda crap in your life. Also, the copper hair looks so good on you! Perfect for autumn 🧡
Your skin is glowing in this video. Like your complexion looks incredible. It normally does but I just noticed it extra in this video, maybe it's the new hair!! Love it queen
You look great! You’re glowing! Please do a “What I Spend in a Week” video, I’m desperate for tips 😅 I’m living in Louveciennes right outside Paris as an au pair and I’m trying to figure out where I’m going to go after this. Catch me scanning through the comments for those rent averages lol
Love your videos so much❤ a few of my favourite moments with you were - when you concluded the neighbour drama video with a positive lesson learnt by explaining you had said to the universe you wanted to stand up more for yourself and the universe gave you an oppertunity to make you practice that- I'm not really a spiritual person but now when something makes my mood plummet I know there's always something that can lift it right back up, I just have to do it myself. -how you expressed your emotions about your break up, finished all thoughts, showed the variety of phases of your emotions, deliberately filmed your lowest moments. -when you explained why you share so much and, something which I find almost radical, said you think other youtubers should do the same thing to show not only the highs but also the lows. You make me regret less because it seems like even when you're as empathetic and fabulous and posess the ability think critically, drama is sometimes unavoidable
My first ever time living completely alone was when I first moved to the Japanese countryside from San Francisco. I went from paying $900 a month for a room in a shared house with four other people to paying $200 a month for my own two bedroom apartment. Granted it was built in 1970 and I had to duck between every room because of the traditional sliding doors, and crank the water heater just right to get the shower to work but I LOVED that place. There’s just something about having your own tiny place to decorate and make your own. Now, 5 years later I’m in Tokyo with my husband and three kids and pay the equivalent of about $2500 a month for a 2 (technically 3) bedroom apartment. I would say studios go for around $1000 a month depending on location. I guess we are lucky in Japan that the toilets are simply marvelous and I’ve never had one flood or get clogged no matter the size of your 💩 😂 Love your vids, they are always so inspiring to me as a mom who is still in touch with her creative and spiritual side 💜
Your place is so cute! I’ve always lived in small, charming old apartments. Well, old-ish for Wisconsin, most were built in the 1890-1920 range. Anyway, older houses that were split up into apartments are one of my favorite things, they have such quirky details (like in my parents’ 1920 mansion that was once a retirement home for Catholic nuns and later turned into a duplex, has a whole sprinkler system and neon exit sign from its time as a nursing home and a grand stairwell that once led upstairs to the upper floor and now just leads to a landing after the house was split up). I love getting creative with the details we have and imagining what the place was like through the years. I don’t think I could ever buy a new house because I get such joy thinking about who lived in my space before me, how did they utilize the space, what did their clothes look like in the closet, what did they eat for breakfast everyday in the kitchen.
Everyone and their mother has already commented this but you look fantastic. I can imagine you with even more of a fiery ginger vibe, like autumn embodied 🍂 Glad to see you crafting home 🧡
I live in a big city in Poland and now the rent prices skyrocketed. I have a 74m2 2 bedroom place for the equivalent of ca. 650EU but some of my friends pay 550-600EU for a studio or 1 bedroom flat in a crappy area far from the centre or in the middle of nowhere (no parks, no grocery shops, no busses, nothing). This is crazy. For me the neighbourhood and a balcony are non-negotiable. I need all of the most important places I go to every day within walking or at least cycling distance. My place ticks all those boxes although it's not perfect (e.g. poorly designed kitchen while I love to cook so much!) I love how beautiful is your studio. Little space but so much magic, pretty corners for filming and a good vibe.
I live in a small-ish town in Ireland and rent a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house with a big kitchen, a separate living room, a utility room, and a beautiful back garden with trees and a stream right behind it for €700 a month. I feel so grateful because I love this space that I share with my partner and our cat, but on the flip side it's a super quiet place compared to Paris
i've been so insecure about moving to france because of what people say but you really reaffirmed me, i'd love to see the weekly costs video someday, thank you very much ❤️
Made it to the end! I live in NYC and I would say the average or cheapest apartments you will find in certain areas of Brooklyn are $1800+. You can find cheaper in a further area but then you have to think about transport / how much u might spend on train, ubers etc. I pay $1300 to share an apartment with two other ppl (strangers!) in greenpoint. That’s the most I’ve ever paid but my room feels like a studio and I have a private entrance. Making it work to save $500 a month as opposed to living alone! Thank you for sharing your apartment and having a relatable perspective on frugality. Love to you always and excited to follow u on your journey ✨💞
Hi! I'm living in the north of France, in the city of Lille and I pay 450€ a month with utilities for a studio of 22m² It feels like it is cheap comparing to other big cities even in France
I live in London and for a studio apartment you’d be paying around £1000 a month (on the cheaper side) and a one-bedroom can be anywhere between £1100-1400 easily 😩
I live in Brighton which is 1 hour away from London and although you can get studios for £500 and up, the prices have gone up significantly since the unis opened up after lockdown and it is super hard to find a place unless you have a guarantor or can pay 6 months or 1 years rent up front (!!!). Also if you have pets it is even harder which sucks, you shouldn't be punished for having a pet but not many landlord's or agencies will look past it. My boyfriend and I are lucky to have a 2 bedroom flat with a big lounge and kitchen that we pay £1100 + bills for. Shaynas apartment is super cute and cosy but I could never live in a place where the shower is in the same room as the kitchen and where I sleep 😅 when I saw that I was thinking of mould, mould and mould..
@@rebeccahurtig6592 omg same... my new rental bathroom is tiny and isn't heating up :/ super paranoid about the mould so keeping it open for ages after i shower, so it gets some kinda air flow at least... my favorite "horror' ad was a freaking shower UNDERNEATH a two storey bed next to the desk. who thought this would be okay?!
i do the same thing about the months LOL but in a jumbo version, it literally takes up the whole wall and like 12-16 sheets of paper for the month. You can see it in a lot of my Vancouver videos. That's mainly when i do that because i usually don't work when i'm there so i plan a lot more activitues and i eat out every day so i write where i'll have breakfast and dinner and stuff in the squares but i didn't know Jerry Seinfeld did it. just came across your cute channel! such a lovely home you have there tbh... so prettily decorated and i would also be afraid of such a tall shower ahahaha.... but also small apartments are really intimate and cute i find. also love your view out of that slanted window! must be a dream to listen when it rains. i live in an appartment in berlin, so i get you about that city life and priority thing. i also live "frugally" if you wanna call it that but it doesn't feel like it tbh. everyone i know (friends circle) live like that. it's the european life style to just go out few times a week to cute inexpensive cafes, eat dinner at your friends and go to free exhibitions! so much to do in these cities that don't cost the world!
I'm moving back to Brighton UK, rent for a 1 bed with small terrace is 900 including all bills (Which is pretty good for brighton). 10 min bike ride to the beach. I have a cat so it was hard to find a place but its so cute.
Absolutely agree with your take on priority. As expats we often have to make decisions with even more limitations and can't have things that come easily to some others. It's really just down to how you want to live your life.
This was a fab video, I love your space and all the details. I was in a studio in Athens Greece, and have just returned to luxor Egypt - paying on both locations the same 260$ a month all in, I have fabulous views of the River Nile here!

My mom used to live in a place like this as a student in Paris. Shared toilet with other tenants.
I’ve been in a studio for eight years in San Francisco. $1,350 with rent control, praise be! I spent the first 6.5 years hella busy and barely home but after shifting to WFH I’ve been yearning for more space. I do love how much I’ve learned to live more minimally and appreciate space. I love all your personal touches 🥰 and that hair girllll 🔥
YESSS GINGER SPICE!! Love that you left that lock of silver in the front! Your apartment feels so fun and peaceful. Thank you for sharing your home with us 💖
I’m in the Seattle area and the average rent for a studio here is $1600.
Paris chambres de bonne are a whole phenomenon in themselves.
this video came at the right time your content always brings me peace
Aw yay!!!
The plant in the corner is an Aloe ..great to heal wounds especially helpful with burns ...so perfect in the Kitchen x Pretty sure the shower is up high so they did not have to break through the flooring (probably cement) and just put the pipes along floor
i had a chambre de bonne rabbit hole on youtube lately, perfect timing! Love the hair, Shayna!! 😍
Yay! Thank you!
Thanks for helping ignite the flame within me to really start thinking about my dreams and building the life I want to live. 🌟🌼🌻💕
Looks like a sweet little place to journal and plan big creative adventures from! And pop downstairs to get a treat from a local bakery...what a dream!
Im an opera singer thinking about moving to Paris, I’m loving the insight and the privilege to hear your experience. ✨🖤 grateful for u.
Opera singer? 😱😱❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m an American living the dream part-time in Paris and am always charmed by your videos, reminiscing about discovering Paris at your exciting and impressionable age. Still in love with this extraordinary city and dreamy country. I’m sending you an invitation to welcome you on Ile Saint-Louis at your email address.
Don't move here. Trust me
@@marazampariolo3200 haha thanks. But I will 😏🖤
@@angelicamonjetorrez6392 good luck. Paris is crazy expensive, people are rude and there isnantonnof street harassment and thefts in the streets and subway. It is not at all as American bloggers describe it. And the PAPERWORK is absurd. Utterly absurd. Oh and I hope you speak french already, as they don't speak English at all and get Very defensive about it lol
@@mz6958 do you speak German? If you have low income you can apply for an "WBS" it's for people who have an lower income and they get access to rent lower price rents
@@dena92 Ah thanks for your reply! I actually had a low income for the first months I was here, but I got a new well-paying job now and found out about the existence of the WBS only after! No worries though I guess. It's pretty hard figuring out all these things as a non-german speaker n00b
@@mz6958 oh that sounds nice! Then I'll keep my fingers crossed for you find something more valuable and spacious for the price!
I didn't know something like a WBS exists either, although I'm born and raised in Germany. My colleague told me that I should apply for one since I work part time. And I got very lucky that I found something because it's still hard to get a flat.
I would love a Purple Palace budget video! I'm in Ontario, Canada and I think an average studio is around $1300ish depending on what city/town
Yes to this! I would love a budget video from Shayna!
That's pricey. I'm in a good area of London and pay that much for a 3 bedroom townhouse including heat and hydro.
@@TLCinCA Canada is pricey AF and our dollar is trash. It's sadness.
I'm obsessed with your pants in this video!!!! I was going to say they are very Ann Hall and then you showed your love for Diane Keaton and her memoir on your shelf! So cool! Love your apartment! Love you beautiful human!
19:50 girl your hairrrrrr it looks so good!! and you have a really sweet apartment! much love! :)
Shaynaaaa I love this color on you! Beautiful 🌹
And there was a old fireplace, but it didn't work anymore and she used it as a bookshelf 🤍 so wonderful
I'm living in the countryside of Germany and the rent can be so different.
You made it really your own place 🤍✨
almost no fireplace can be lit in paris, it is very regulated
My husband and I pay 1k for a 3 “bedroom” apartment. Our building was built in the late 1850s so bedrooms were only used for a bed. We turned the third bedroom into a walk-in closet/storage room. Tons of light for my plants. It’s about a 10 minute train ride to downtown Chicago.
Your videos really makes it feel less lonely to be perusing an art career, thank uuu💕
I’m living in Sweden in a apartment that cost 350€ per month. I do live in the country side now but I was still super lucky to have found this place😌💕

Can I just say she's looking better than ever??? Like WOW
Now I'm living in Antwerp and people here complain about the "high prices", but you could easily get a whole apartment for yourself for €600 or so.
shayna your hair is giving anna from frozen meets ray of light era madonna,, and im so here for it!! it fits your reinvention so well 🧡💛🤍
I bought my first home this past year in New Orleans, Louisiana because it was cheaper than renting for me.
The sunflower story is the cutest! It gave me chills. 😍❤
I love how tiny everything is, and tiles ⬜️🔳, shower, BOOKCASE 📓📖, vase. This studio is so charming - a dream. Your French is amazing! The gold star system 🥺. Actually no, you are a dream.

honestly, I am so in love with your content. Thank you so much for creating this platform and continuing to encourage to people to take up space. I really think that you have influenced me saving myself more than I can even comprehend and I thank you so much for that.
the average rent in Pittsburgh area (latrobe)is anywhere from $400-$1,000 depending on the neighborhood!
I was JUST watching all the paris apartment tour vids!! Love ur energy
tiny but absolutely charming! that fireplace is magical. bisous from a fellow frugal tiny house dweller
The cutest apartment + toilet down the hallway ever!! BUT where / how do you do laundry???
Possibly at a laundromat? Or laundry in a different floor of the apt? I live in NYC not Paris but I know it’s uncommon to have laundry in the apartment in large cities
A laundromat probably! it's common in Paris (:
I absolutely love the new hair!!
This video made me realize how I could be doing my part time job I have now and afford to live with your rent. I live in California and rent here is crazy (about $1000-$1200 for a studio)
Honestly I have such fond memories of living in small studios in Paris. Being tucked under the roof they feel like a sort of nest from where I would plan how to take over the world 😂. Oh the good times! I love your home ❤️
aw i love your hair!!
Your hair in this video reminds me so much of Princess Anna from Frozen! The red with the streak of white! As a Disney fan I love it a lot.
The fact that you're close to so many beautiful places is enough
I love your apartment! It reminds me of my first studio apartment, which I still miss sometimes - it was so cute and cosy! I’m very relieved to hear the awful neighbour is gone. You don’t need that kinda crap in your life. Also, the copper hair looks so good on you! Perfect for autumn 🧡
Your skin is glowing in this video. Like your complexion looks incredible. It normally does but I just noticed it extra in this video, maybe it's the new hair!! Love it queen
You're glowing! So happy to see you like this
i love your ginger hair and blonde streaks look so much, i feel inspired to get streaks in my hair once i get out of lockdown in new zealand
Yes pleaseee! Those financial vids from when you first moved there as a student vs now would be so muuuch helpful 🤍

I love the 5th. I stayed in a dorm there when I studied abroad there for a month and it was so calm. I loved that vibe.
Love your videos so much❤ a few of my favourite moments with you were
- when you concluded the neighbour drama video with a positive lesson learnt by explaining you had said to the universe you wanted to stand up more for yourself and the universe gave you an oppertunity to make you practice that- I'm not really a spiritual person but now when something makes my mood plummet I know there's always something that can lift it right back up, I just have to do it myself.
I guess we are lucky in Japan that the toilets are simply marvelous and I’ve never had one flood or get clogged no matter the size of your 💩 😂
Love your vids, they are always so inspiring to me as a mom who is still in touch with her creative and spiritual side 💜
I don’t think I could ever buy a new house because I get such joy thinking about who lived in my space before me, how did they utilize the space, what did their clothes look like in the closet, what did they eat for breakfast everyday in the kitchen.

i havent watched your videos in ages!!! the red hair looks so so good on you!! loved this video!
Everyone and their mother has already commented this but you look fantastic. I can imagine you with even more of a fiery ginger vibe, like autumn embodied 🍂

Oh thank you!
i live in Berlin and I can't believe 580€ is considered affordable in Paris for such a tiny tiny apartment!! Thought rent was crazy here
I live in a big city in Poland and now the rent prices skyrocketed.
Cool! Is Dublin still accessible or are you really far out?
@@frenchbelacan9082 pretty far from Dublin, it's over 3 hours drive away 😭

i've been so insecure about moving to france because of what people say but you really reaffirmed me, i'd love to see the weekly costs video someday, thank you very much ❤️
Made it to the end!
Hi! I'm living in the north of France, in the city of Lille and I pay 450€ a month with utilities for a studio of 22m²
It feels like it is cheap comparing to other big cities even in France
You are absolutely glowing in this video :)
Youve been such a big inspiration!!
Shayna, I loved your studio apartment tour...it was so charming...you and your home have so much personality...so vibrant and colourful, so poetic...

I live in London and for a studio apartment you’d be paying around £1000 a month (on the cheaper side) and a one-bedroom can be anywhere between £1100-1400 easily 😩
yah i've lived there for years & once i found an add for a "room"/bed under the staircase for 1100 pounds a month LOL
Sounds like Hell
@@rebeccahurtig6592 omg same... my new rental bathroom is tiny and isn't heating up :/ super paranoid about the mould so keeping it open for ages after i shower, so it gets some kinda air flow at least... my favorite "horror' ad was a freaking shower UNDERNEATH a two storey bed next to the desk. who thought this would be okay?!

just came across your cute channel! such a lovely home you have there tbh... so prettily decorated and i would also be afraid of such a tall shower ahahaha.... but also small apartments are really intimate and cute i find. also love your view out of that slanted window! must be a dream to listen when it rains. i live in an appartment in berlin, so i get you about that city life and priority thing. i also live "frugally" if you wanna call it that but it doesn't feel like it tbh. everyone i know (friends circle) live like that. it's the european life style to just go out few times a week to cute inexpensive cafes, eat dinner at your friends and go to free exhibitions! so much to do in these cities that don't cost the world!
that painting your mom made is so beautiful!
ughh your hair looks so good! can't get over it!!
