If you use a proper DJ player with needle it won't damage the record or needle. The reason being is a DJ's needle is cut both ways.

This is not exactly true. While DJ turntables have the functionality of playing records backwards, it will cause as much wear as playing a record backwards with any conical diamond stylus. It won't destroy anything, but it will wear it out a lot faster than playing it normally.
