I have had mine for a year. So far it has been into the shop for one Winnebago recall and one Promaster recall. The Promaster recall was to check a safety sensor on the Promaster supplied drivers seat. It was OK. The Winnebago recall was they boxed in the lift too much causing the floor inside to heat up from the exhaust. They removed some of the boxing and the problem was resolved. The gas/electric heater had a problem in that it was hooked up to the engine battery so the only way you could shut it off and reset the control was to disconnect the engine battery. Not all that easy to do. They rewired it for free so it runs off the coach battery so to reset the control all have to do it turn off your battery disconnect. I took off the metal handicap bar that was attached to the rear wall of the shower stall on the right hand side of the toilet. It actually got in the way of using the toilet as you could only use the toilet if it faced forward, it was much easier to access if it faces to the side and all you had to do was a 90 degree turn. I think the Promaster door locks could use some work, one button to open them all, one to lock them all, having a separate button for the rear doors is a pain. Now for the NOT-SO-BRIGHT move by Braun and Winnebago, this is suppose to be a handicap van yet the side door is manual!! Good grief, make it a power door! There is a button on the key fob for the lift for "door" so do it!!.

High Hotel room beds are a big problem. BedBoost For The Disabled Traveler takes care of this issue.

What in the world am I seeing around the cassette toilet access? Is that the cutout of the van body looking like it was done with a dull chisel? I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but that just can't be done that badly.

It appears that the black sealant is in the shape of a cutout, which may have caused confusion. I agree that it can be misleading.

the description mentions this van is equipped with solar power... but i didn't see that highlighted anywhere in the video...

In the video I just briefly talked about the solar charge controller within the control panel center on the wall...

@@WhereRVGoing I agree with detroitdez, when you mentioned the solar controller, I was surprised, because we never learned how much solar, etc

First you have to look at the price. You can probably get one around $125,000. Second, look at any grants you can get. If you are a veteran getting care at the VA they might be able to pay for $22,000 to cover the cost of the lift and the tie downs. You can talk to Jason at La Mesa RV in Phoenix about that, he has done the paperwork so La Mesa is an official contractor. Keep in mind the VA will not pay for a RV, they are paying for the lift and tie downs, everything else is yours. Lastly, how much of a down payment are you making? The bigger the down payment the less risk to the lender and the more likely they will loan you the money. Being an RV, if you call it your second home you can write off interest and taxes on it assuming you itemize.

Why is it that I cannot find a review for the Winnebago Roam from someone who is actually IN a wheelchair, trying to use this? Someone showing this rig who has full use of both of their legs doesn't count, at all. I suspect that I can't find reviews with someone who actually uses a wheelchair because of what I see as obvious design flaws which would make it very hard for a person in a wheelchair to use this rig. ( ie - step into shower, difficult transfers from wheelchair to toilet or to driver or passenger seat, needing to sleep widthwise, rather than lengthwise on the bed - And probably other issues I would notice if I was actually in the rig and not just watching a video). This would definitely not work for my husband.

OK. My wife uses a power wheelchair. NOT having a power door is a pain but she can open and close it from her wheelchair. Hers has two main drive wheels and swivel wheels in the four corners. You need to pay attention to how those swivel wheels work because if you get too close to a wall you could do some damage, in particular the shower wall towards the front of the RV. She either stays in her wheelchair and we use the Roam seat belt attachments or she reverses the front passenger seat and transfer to that. No, you can not remove the front passenger seat or driver seat and roll the wheelchair to that position, there is a five inch height difference in the floor right at the seats. Yes, you can get hand controls. If there is a hand grip to the right of the toilet forcing you to use the toilet when it only faces forward, get rid of the hand grip. Sometimes it is easier to transfer from a wheelchair to a toilet seat by simply rotating 90 degrees instead of trying to slide sideways. The rear seat as SEATS is terrible. On the passenger/door side you can not reach the floor with your feet. On the driver/bathroom side you can reach the floor but your leg room is blocked by the bathroom. Think of it as having a bulkhead seat on a plane. The seat belts are terrible and pull up, not back, they really should be attached lower and to the back of the RV by the top door hinges. We simply keep the seat flat in its bed position and when we go shopping she can load herself into the van from the side door and I can load groceries and stuff in from the back door at the same time. That is a nice feature. So our routine goes, I go out and get into my driver's seat. She comes out and uses the lift to get in. She can do all that. She positions the wheelchair and she is still able to do the tie downs. Then she stays there or moves to the front passenger seat. She has MS so having TWO air conditioners to cool the RV is a big plus, specially on super hot days. The van weights about 8000 pounds with a full gas tank, full water tank, wheelchair and the two of us. Not a lot of room for extra cargo or weight. We are getting a small Forest River Rpod that meets the weight and hitch capacity of the Roam so we can use that as a base camp and the Roam for traveling in the local area. Ram does NOT have a pre-wired connector for trailer brakes but you can switch out the four pin connector to a seven pin connector at the rear, hook into the coach battery and get a CURT hitch mounted brake controller that you can run from your cell phone, no need to rip up the inside to put in a conventional controller. What we really like is the high seats, we can see over traffic and see what is ahead plus unlike a lot of Honda, Toyota and Chrysler based mini-van wheelchair conversions the floor of the Promaster does not need to be cut so the vehicle keeps its original structural integrity. It is not perfect but with a cassette toilet, it really helps on trips because not everyone cares about the ADA rules.

Very poorly designed vehicle,,,, the wheelchair lift is the only thing worth keeping in

I agree. VERY poorly designed, probably by people who have two completely usable legs. I do
not believe folks who are actually in wheelchairs were part of this design team - or if they were, they were ignored.
