Missed a couple things, Toyota let Subaru use toyota's direct injection for the engine, also the engine is tuned by Toyota, and the brz is tuned by Subaru, Toyota didn't pay to just put their name on it, it's mainly a Toyota project, Subaru just makes it. Also the "half fake" aero is blocked off because it supplied the engine and wheel bays with too much air. Also the left traction control button turns off everything except ABS after holding it for 5 seconds. The right traction control button only puts the car in track mode, which turns of stability control and tightens up the steering but that's it. Also not so fun fact the automatics come with Subaru eyesight and it sucks.
Actually more of a Toyota insisted that D4-S be on the car. I read the backstory on it, and Subaru said it could not be done on the Boxer engine, and resisted the idea. Be glad it’s on both the BRZ , and the 86, as this system not only adds power, but you will not get carbon fouling like a normal DI engine, because the added port injection keeps the valves clean

I find it weird that everyone complains about the turn signals. I have lived with them for over a year and prefer them over normal turn signal stalks. They are very easy to use, and I never have to manually turn off my turn signals because they do it automatically after completing a turn.
i think that's only in auto tho. honestly there are some features that are cut out of the manual premium that shouldn't be. adaptive cruise control is cut out of all the manuals, like sure of course the car won't switch gears for you in manual but it can still automatically adjust the throttle, instead they choose to cut it out. also parking sensors aren't in the manual, sure not need especially with a camera still included but still would be nice when paying for the "premium" edition.

It depends on your personal opinion if Toyota or Subaru looks and feels better. Both cars are very similar with some minor differences. I drive the 2023 BRZ and the outline for me looks better. Subaru in Germany is very rare and the STI parts are not necessary, but are looking great. It is a cool car concept, we are lucky to have these days. So enjoy every hour with your Toyota or Subaru. I think we will get not that much comparable stuff in the future. Other hypercars are nice, but they are not affordable for most of us. Regarding the shift gear or automatic transmission: I have no chance to compare that for the BRZ, but for a normal car with actual safety features like automatic distance controls a automatic transmission is great. I think at this sport car a manual brings more fun and it’s easy to handle. Just my point o view. Better to have one with automatic than having none 😊 Nice review and good additional content at the comments. Thank you all for that.
I just test drove one yesterday and they added a weird square-shaped hole in front of the cup holder area. Not sure what it’s for…too small for a phone and too square for a cup. Why not just move the cup holders forward 4”
You got it wrong on the engine. It is not just a Subaru engine that Toyota paid to put their name on. It includes Toyota's direct injection AND port injection. A major improvement over the Subaru engine.
First of all, I really liked your video, the GR 86 us my favorite car ever and I enjoyed your video 💕 Then, I just wanna add that the alcantara on top of the instrument cluster is to reduce reflections on the windshield (See The Straight Pipes' review on the C8 Corvette for more info) Also, Toyota did the fuel injection system in the Subaru engines because Toyota owns a part of Subaru and when they asked Subaru to give their engine direct injection they said it couldn't be done so Toyota engineers went in and made the injection system themselves, so yes, this is an engine co-developed by Toyota and Subaru. This isn't a Supra situation where Toyota just redesigned, recalibrated and retuned a BMW M340i. Also, the original idea was to only have the 86 and no BRZ but Subaru whete so happy with the prototype they wanted their own version and Toyota agreed because more sale is always good specially for this sort of cars :)
You know, reviewers always knock on Japanese cars not having leg room in the back, but they never criticize American cars for the same issue. Never hear that level of scrutiny with the mustang or Camaro.
From Toyota's website, looking at the 2024 model, the specs for the "Premium" trim level show that it now starts at $34k - with an included automatic transmission. How do we feel about that?!!
I still strongly believe that all the newer “cheap” rwd cars are overpriced. Got a 1st gen brz back in 2016 for 21k and that seemed reasonable at the time, ~35k for a facelift, alcantara, and a tune is just overly unreasonable.. but I’m still determined to get a 2nd gen (probably used tho… broke enthusiast stay broke 😅)
I have a premium in halo white reserved that I will be picking up in April and it's going to hurt to pay for so I think you are playing it smart but unfortunately I need a new car anyway as the daily beater is at deaths door, wish me luck lol.
Yes the turn signal is dumb (the Savage Geese guy said he gets the urge to take a saw and chop it off every time he gets in), but nobody mentions the cruse control, It's nearly the same as the 1971(!) Toyota Celica (if you're math impaired, that's 50+ years old). it's not digial like in a Honda civic where once you set it, you can click it up or down and it adjusts the cruse in 1mph increments. It also has a 3 blink lane change mode where you just flip it once, and it blinks 3 times and then turns itself off. I'm going to miss both those. The sad thing is that to fix these things, it would probably raise the prince by $5000. Not an acceptable price increase in a "Driver's car", where you're just supposed to put up with inconveniences like that. But you should probably get one anyway. Rumors have it the replacement is a 3 cylinder turbo hybrid with BMW/Audi/Cadilac styling.
Are the rear seats a split fold down? Is there a setting that gives you a radial display option for your speed? Is the rear spoiler adhered or bolted to the trunk?
@@reganmianI was able to get the 2023 that was available on the dealership’s floor. Luckily for me it’s my favorite color. Red with a six speed! Unfortunately now that I got injured at work, I don’t drive it as much and with only 1600 miles I’m on the fence on selling it.

Over thousands of cars, trim, subtrim, models, concept models, etc. They made this car SPECIFICALLY as a way to ask its little sister brand being scion/subaru to help create a well affordable car that isn't as much as buying a house. Subaru is known for making unique trims and frames of sporty cars, Toyota needed a alternative coup frame compared to what they have currently, this creates a much affordable cheaper option as it helps BOTH brands. Buy gettinf Subaru to help with the production. Not to mention, GR86 is one of little to no cars that actually made it into production phase given the car market was crumbling. GR86 Is a Toyota car. Being proud and respected strong along side the mk5 supra, but as well as establishing great relationships with its sister brand being Subaru. Toyota owns .20 cents of every dollar Subaru makes. 24 of the most common things you already knew about the 86
Great review lots of info. Only knock I have is shut up when doing performance driving and hard cornering at revs we want to hear the engine not your yapper. Thanks.
Is automatic just as cool or manual the way to go?
have driven the auto, and it's not the way to go
Driven both, auto is ho estly great still. If you just purely dont want a manual for personal reasons, the auto is still a fantastic daily driver
@@dwnshftlook where he lives brother. No traffic all open road. If you live in traffic like Los Angeles and this is your only car - auto is fine. MT is for living traffic free or weekend warrior
Better to have one with automatic than having none 😊
Nice review and good additional content at the comments. Thank you all for that.
love the anniversary record. does BRZ has it? It's gonna be a deal breaker for me
I just test drove one yesterday and they added a weird square-shaped hole in front of the cup holder area.
As an old person I concur with your assessment of Facebook. 😏
BEAUTIFUL machine! Love it
First of all, I really liked your video, the GR 86 us my favorite car ever and I enjoyed your video 💕
Then, I just wanna add that the alcantara on top of the instrument cluster is to reduce reflections on the windshield (See The Straight Pipes' review on the C8 Corvette for more info)
Also, Toyota did the fuel injection system in the Subaru engines because Toyota owns a part of Subaru and when they asked Subaru to give their engine direct injection they said it couldn't be done so Toyota engineers went in and made the injection system themselves, so yes, this is an engine co-developed by Toyota and Subaru.
I'm so torn between getting a 86 or BRZ
@mrdilgames6546 what reason do you have for buying a BRZ over the 86?
You know, reviewers always knock on Japanese cars not having leg room in the back, but they never criticize American cars for the same issue. Never hear that level of scrutiny with the mustang or Camaro.
@@joerandom8678 oh no I’ve been plenty vocal about the Mustang - haven’t made a video on the Camaro
Can you do a rear seat delete from factory?
From Toyota's website, looking at the 2024 model, the specs for the "Premium" trim level show that it now starts at $34k - with an included automatic transmission. How do we feel about that?!!
Why does this kid sound like Doug DeMuro's son?
Would it be a good daily
just brought this car yesterday Toyota GR86 trendo blue any tips ? 😄
Love the rear floor mats
Yes BRZ does have it, too.
I still strongly believe that all the newer “cheap” rwd cars are overpriced. Got a 1st gen brz back in 2016 for 21k and that seemed reasonable at the time, ~35k for a facelift, alcantara, and a tune is just overly unreasonable.. but I’m still determined to get a 2nd gen (probably used tho… broke enthusiast stay broke 😅)
same lmao i'm going to get my hands on one one day
I have a premium in halo white reserved that I will be picking up in April and it's going to hurt to pay for so I think you are playing it smart but unfortunately I need a new car anyway as the daily beater is at deaths door, wish me luck lol.
Bruh.. 6th gear at 40-45 is outrageous lmaoo
Believe Toyota added port injection to the engine, which is where some of the new hp come from. So the engine is not only Subaru.
Wrong, the gt86 had dual injection. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
@@georgemcunty6383 very mean smh
@@NinoInTheCommentsdude was mean just to be wrong lmao
Are the rear seats a split fold down?
Is there a setting that gives you a radial display option for your speed?
Is the rear spoiler adhered or bolted to the trunk?
Sound is so cool
I like the base more
Looks like you keep your seat leaned back pretty far
when did Michael Cera buy a GR86?
@@doubleblastsmashnpass9882 🤣
I just purchased the new BRZ and I’m in love with it. For some reason, this video popped up into my feed! 😂😂😂
I’m so on the fence I have option at the moment to get either at MsrP
how was the purchasing process? Were you able to get a manual easily?
@@reganmianI was able to get the 2023 that was available on the dealership’s floor. Luckily for me it’s my favorite color. Red with a six speed! Unfortunately now that I got injured at work, I don’t drive it as much and with only 1600 miles I’m on the fence on selling it.
@@reganmian easy. But unfortunately I’ve become disabled and 1600 miles later I’m debating on possibly putting it up for sale.
How fast is it
Would a 6’3 person be able to comfortably drive this car?
actually yeah i think so
Don't forget that Subie oil filter!
So sad that Toyota themselves don't ha Pride on their brand anymore. If tjis would had been a 100% a toyota product im sure it would have sold 2X the amount they already have
...Toyota litterally is the biggest ans highest grossing manufacturer in the world.
Which is alot** it only made sence Toyota went to Subaru ti create a well built introductory and very impressive for the price affordable car.
Toyota also put their dual fuel injection on the Subaru motor.
Can you adjust the cruise control in 1 mph increments like some other Japanese cars?
Yes on the Auto
@@JoshAllen-c4n So really No.
Is this the premium model ?
Yes
Should you go this or base Camaro LT1 ( v8 )
Gr86
Toyota owns 20% of subaru. Its more of toyota parts shared with subaru, subaru logo on stuff, but its very difficult to know which ones are toyota and which ones are subaru
like the gt86 more tbh
Dude you just called me old!!😜😀 (it’s true, I am)
Really enjoyed the video. Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
