An incredibly talented artist who only wishes to bring together the original band so he can give the love back to the fans who've been waiting for a reconciliation and reunion. I took my father to see GFR a few years back as a surprise, because I knew it was his favorite band as a young man. Needless to say, it didn't quite turn out how I had hoped. He pretty much stood there staring daggers at Don Brewer the whole time, and when they played "We're an American Band" he just said "This ain't Grand Funk... let's get the fuck out of here." and left.

And he didn't need the Hall or Freemasons to get his point across many times. Most everyone in the Hall of Flame are Freemasons, follow the money. Wherever there is mass $$$, there is at least one Freemason involved. Thank You for your TRUE character, Mark Farner. I didn't want my last post to be too long, but I will admit Mark was the face of GFR. I love the quote from Homer Simpson questioning kids: "You've never seen the shirtless antics of Mark Farner??? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher??? The competent drum work of Don Brewer???" And it was priceless when The Who guested on The Simpsons for a benefit concert. Roger Daltry was given a play list for the concert, and he calmly says, "But, Homer," (in his typically British accent) "these are all Grand Funk Railroad songs!" For the benefit of others, classic GFR tunes were played a LOT in the background while The Sopranos ran on HBO. Particularly "I'm Your Captain" during the opening of an episode in season 3.

It's not bullshit - Mark Farner really is Grand Funk. This whole thing reminds me of that movie "Spinal Tap" which highlights, humorously, the enlarged egos and eccentricities of musicians (especially rockers). As someone else has said, Grand Funk without Mark Farner is a fucking cover band - and a joke. Mark Farner comes across as a good guy.....maybe he was an asshole as a bandmate. A previous post, from someone who says they lived by the guy, says Farner thinks his "shit doesn't stink". Hell - who knows? That's true of about 90% of well-known musicians. But he WAS the band - that's simply the reality. All I can suspect is that Mel and Don really do not like the guy.... But Don and Mel promoting themselves as Grand Funk is complete BS - it's false advertising.

tonlo72 Exactly... I'm from Flint, Michigan...where these guys started. They were one "fat ass" trio and Mark was the centerpiece. Don and Mel are fine musicians, but with Mark absent they ain't Grand Funk. I really loved the band. To throw it all away over a bunch of bullshit - that is undoubtedly petty - is really sad. Personally, the people who I know who have met Mark say he's a good guy. As I've said, it's just sad.

It was just the three originals, rocking their azzes off, in an historic structural venue. A place where the older and popular country music performers would play. GFR with Mark Don and Mel have a special chemistry that cant be duplicated. it has to do with the timing of each of them (as well as equipment etc.,). It made that special sound especially; early that was GFRs sound. It cant be duplicated it can be copied well but not duplicated/ Mel leads the note Don follows and Mark goes all over. You see I could write a book about GFR, If I were a good writer LOL There are GFR and FARNER fans as big as me but not any bigger; Now remember in 98 Mark left GFR and said his solo career was his main concern, he said he promised two years and did three. So I and otheres subjected to Don and Mel replace Mark until he wants to come back. Lots of us fans as part of Roadkill were already trying to help promote GFR during the reunion. Including the campaign to get them in the Rock N Roll Hall of fame. It fizzled though (Rolling Stone -Jan Warner hates GFR they are the blocking agent), it would of helped if they did the 30th anniversary tour, they had a 30 city bigger venue tour backed by Budweiser and an appearance lined up for that 70s show for that year 1999. But Mark left so it was a no go. Anyway I don't want t write to much hear, I love all three of them, they have always been great to me. I HOPE one day they get together again. For themselves and the fans. God Bless.

Rick Cappetto I don't think Grand Funk with Farner, will ever happen. It is highly unlikely that they will ever come back. I saw them 5 times with all the original members so I can be happy about that. These guys are now in their mid-sixties so there is not much time remaining.

I remember watching their Behind the Music special in March/April 1999. You would think that after all the b.s. they'd gone through with Terry Knight AND the IRS, it would've made em all tighter. This is the 1st time I've watched anything on Grand Funk Railroad since that Behind the Music special in '99 and I'm STILL trying to wonder what the hell happened! Are they even in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? If NOT, it's gonna be difficult to get them together for that. It should always be about the music. Without unity, you're robbing the fans. If the fans can unite to come see you play, they should be able to unite to give the people WHAT REALLY matters: A REAL American band!

Don Mel and a total of Five Musicians makeup the Grand Funk doing shows these days. Don & Mel hired 3 side men to "Try" to fill Marks shoes and they fall short by a fantastic margin. Mark only needs 2 good side men and nothing changes. But it's the "Name" that is important in the "Business" of music so it's like Don & Mel are pimpin Marks achievments by proxy. Makes me sick to see the Rhythm section taking over and doing all they can to make it appear to the world that "They" had something to do the worldwide fame that Marks Talent Earned him and subsiquently the hangers-on too. KNOW THIS DON & MEL... We The Fans of Grand Funk "Know" who's who and it's not You Two Sets of Clown Shoes...!!

He was the heart/soul/driving force behind those first albums, taking nothing away from the wonderful rhythm section of Don & Mel..but GFR never would have had the success they did without Mark. I got into a discussion with a guy on Tik Tok who is basically calling Mark a liar & says it didn't go down (the signing away of his rights & place in the band) the way he said.
    I believe Mark.

You can clearly tell from this interview Mark Farner's clearly distraught by the thought of the original three members of GFR (Mark, Don & Mel) not getting back together. A promoter offered all three huge cash up front to do a reunion tour, yet Don & Mel still won't reunite with Mark??? What's wrong with you, Don Brewer & Mel Schacher?! Mark & Don will be 67 years old this year & Mel will turn 64. Will all three of you please get back together already, & do one more tour for we your fans who love you to death? In GFRs current state, Don & Mel are just a cover band, & it takes a total of THREE guys to replace Mark Farner. What does that tell you, Don & Mel? You two are also deceiving the fans carrying on as "Grand Funk Railroad" - yet when the fans get to your shows & see that Mark's not onstage, they're tempted to ask for their money back. All three guys are a stone's throw away from turning 70, so they should make things right & do one last tour together for the fans before either Mark, Don or Mel are feigned by illness or death. Think of all the money you'll rake in! Mark could sure use his share of it to help his son Jesse. So, do the right thing & reunite with Mark already, while the three of you are still breathing!
