My inkling is that the newer players stopped 'respecting' the older players because the older players were trying to intimidate them, as Phil said, and they put their guard up to not be intimidated. Sort of saying, "Wait a minute, I'm good, you can't intimidate me", and in doing so - it came across as lack of respect when really it was just game mindset.

Eh … taylor sponsored a lot of players early in there career and also put everything he had on the line to break away and form the pdc he was one of the originals . And what he achieved in darts the eyes he brought the sponsors the tv deals the new contract set up for pdc players so they can earn decent money etc these young guys as you put it coming through wouldnt have anything to break through into if it wasnt for the originals who broke away from the bdo but taylor especially . Im not a taylor fan but what he done for darts has went a long way to make it what it is today and the young guys coming through have alot to be thankful for to those who paved the way for them thats a ridiculous statement you made know your history
I think it's a good and a bad thing. For their own game it's good that they don't care about their opponent. But in general, there is a lack of respect with the new generation for the old guys. And sometimes, that's not nice to see. Without older players, they wouldn't be here to play in the first placr
The same way I think but in adition to your points it always depends on respect on or off the oche. On the oche you should not have respect for anyone because of things they have achieved in the past. Because "I do not care about your 10 major titles if you keep missing I will beat you" is a better attitude for a sportsman. Off the oche is a completely different story. Respect people for what they have done but still be confident enough to get yourself on the same level as they did when they started their journey.

I just think that many of the new generation lack knowledge in and respect of the darts history. Not everyone, but many lack respect for the older guys and champions. Some like Aspinall do have that respect, but newer youngsters or even Price don't have that respect off the oche for those legends

Look at the general standard of the game now. It's drastically increased in the last ten years and part of that is because they aren't intimidated by Taylor and the likes. They are there to win and the whole game has improved because of it. I can imagine that really irking Taylor who whilst brilliant, has always been quite arrogant.
I mean, you can be arrogant when you destroy every single other person in your sport, respectfully. Sure, the last few years people were more than capable of beating him, but to be fair: That's kind of his accomplishment.
