Fun fact: If you say the location of the bust is in the Judge's bench he'll get so pissed at Phoenix that he'll penalize him twice and nearly deplete the HP bar. You get a game over if you're not at full HP when you do this.
I know that, I found out the hard way. I had forgotten to save for like the past 30 minutes of gameplay too.

@@thepopo592that’s probably it then. i never played any of these games when they first came out apart from Edgeworth Investigations 1 and 2. i have the AJ and PW trilogies on my Switch, so i’m guessing the autosave feature was probably introduced when they were ported.

the original ace attorney trilogy came out on the gameboy, then DS, then DS again.
so that was pretty long before autosave was a feature in Nintendo systems
The DS in particular was pretty infamous for not having autosave considering it's terrible battery life.
I remember one too many resetti rant's in my day... Poor little mole. Guy didn't know the DS's battery sucked lol.

Certainly in this game, at least. Next case isn't my favourite in the series, and Big Top isn't my least favourite in the series (though I definitely get the hate it receives), but in terms of this game? Farewell, My Turnabout is my favourite. Only really rivalled by the second case for me, but like... the last case is among my favourite Ace Attorney cases.

this game really wants Acro to be symphathetic, but I really can't symphatise with the decision to murder a teenage girl, who hadn't really done anything wrong, and then frame someone for it. It's kinda crazy that the murderer they want you to like is also one of the few people in this series to commit premeditated murder - he didn't hit his intended target, but his target being a 16-year-old only makes him worse.

idk why he didnt just spill the beans about "people become stars" to regina.. im sure would be worse if he REALLY was bitter..going out of your way to kill someone though? yea thats a bit much. it wasnt even her idea about the pepper, is was his brother right? either way it was a convoluted case with a ton of pain. going after her really isnt the right solution.
@@Nu_MerickHe never told her because 1) Death is a highly taboo subject so he couldn't talk about it without looking insane 2) It's an "insane" take so it's shocking to hear from the "killer". 3) It could be a legit belief and it's weird to correct a person on their belief
@@Nu_Merick she was technically to blame, but I don't think you can reasonably expect someone to be cautious of this scenario ahead of time. She couldn't have known Bat would have put his head in the lion's mouth, and it makes sense she wouldn't consider that the pepper on his scarf would be an issue.
The anime made this case significantly better! But wow, what a low bar that is!
The milk thing resolved ages ago. The milk thing was because Max was a country boy who loved the stuff. He always used milk to steady his nerves and help him get ready for the show. Everybody sent him milk as a "Good luck out there!" gesture.

@@Tizzer169 When I say "resolved" I really only say that because that's what the Grumps were saying. I can't remember specifically when it was, but I think it was sometime during the trial's first day? It was kind of an off-handed comment where Max mentions that he always drinks milk before he goes on to perform. It was never a "plotline" or anything.
And then over the course of the case, he gets more and more delivered to him until the second day when Gumshoe tells him that he's got a huge delivery of milk. It's symbolic of the members of the circus starting to come together and be in Max's corner.
Probably someone on the team hadn't read all those comments yet by the time they filmed this.
@Tizzer169 it was at the start of the first trial. Max was first unable to get any milk and he talked to the team about how he needed it, and every further point when someone gave him milk WAS the resolution... the Grumps just forgot.

The reason Phoenix isn't paid a lot is because he takes on clients who can't necessarily pay that much. He really can't say no to desperate people

I think it's also a common trope of the "Robin Hood" type character pulling off successful jobs quite often, yet always somehow low on funds because the jobs themselves go sideways in one way or another.
He's defended Powers (a popular TV show star), Edgeworth (a successful attorney), and Max (the current World's Greatest Magician). I know it's a little offset by Maya and Butz probably being freebies but still.

I was really hoping that Dan would start voicing Maya again though. Nick and Maya talk to each other so often, it doesn't feel right having Arin do both. Oh well!
To my knowledge, the reason Phoenix talks about not having much money is because Wright and Co. is a smaller, much less prestigious law firm.
As opposed to Edgeworth, who works at the Prosecutor's office and is basically guaranteed an income, Phoenix's clients have to specifically choose _him_ from any number of defense attorneys available. And since he's the only actual _lawyer_ at the firm right now, it makes it harder to have a steady cash flow because he has to limit how many cases he has at once.
It's also Phoenix's only source of income, so he has to split it between maintenance of the firm itself and his bills.

The Grumps' confusion at Von Karma's disposition shows they haven't learned how crime works in this universe. Justice doesn't matter, only whether a Prosecuting Attorney or Defense Attorney wins their case. Even with Edgeworth, he only ever cared about finding the just truth when it mattered to him on a personal level. The Karmas want to win, and it doesn't matter to them if a criminal walks as a result.
I think overall edgeworth does want justice, but he only takes cases he's convinced he can win and/or make pheonix win for him
Edgeworth helped Phoenix find justice in more cases than one. At the end of the second case in the first game he helps prolong the trial slightly to give Phoenix the upper hand.
Edgeworth wants justice, he was just brainwashed by his teachings from Von Karma

The game narrative and Phoenix's perspective really wants you to be suspicious of and doubt Edgeworth up until 1-4 when it can drop the reveal on you that Phoenix thinks he's not so bad. But that's the game narrative, not actually what Edgeworth is as a character. People forget that in 1-2 while he's still kind of a jerk he actually does give you a second chance that lets you turn it around completely, and in 1-3 he's so filled with doubt that he starts objecting to his own witnesses and helping Phoenix go after them. And because people forget that, they then act like "his behavior in 1-5 and some of the flashback cases are a retcon" and it's like, no, he always cared justice and truth, that's his entire motivation, the unease and uncertainty he talks about was about justice and truth versus the von karma methods he was taught. He then takes an entire year to think it over and re-dedicate himself to those ideals.
@@rebellemuria Absolutely, couldn't agree with you more. I haven't played all AA games yet but he's by far the prosecutor with the best character development I've seen up until now.
I love Zieks and Godot as well but while they're cool characters they don't have much going on regarding character development save from cases relating specifically to them.
@@rebellemuria The thing about 1-3 is Edgeworth has a vested interest in the case. He's a fan of the Samurai show, and that's why he helps Phoenix even though it negatively impacts his case. I agree, he probably is the caring individual that Phoenix believes in, but so far he has done a good job of sticking to the von Karma methods with only minor hints that he cares about justice.
It really goes to show how good Acro is at staying calm, given the circumstances he's in the entire time he's in the courtroom....
I love how Acro compliments Franziska for being in on the entire thing, like she wasn't trying to convict someone else and was extremely pissed about it.
I remember commenting to my friend that Acro seemed like a sociopath for being so calm in that circumstance and being able to falsely call bs on Phoenix.

I'd also like to add, from the comments above, that being a psychopath or sociopath doesn't make you a stereotypical evil villain guy or whatever. Yeah they have those traits but Acro is really just an insidious dumbass who blamed his brother's crush on a teenaged girl (??)

Real talk, if I was paralyzed and the person indirectly responsible for hurting me and me brother spent all their time talking about how "the dead are all just stars," well I can see that driving a person crazy. Especially if it goes on for too long, and if you're just alone in a room all day--one that you can't even leave by yourself.

So, von Karma's motivation is not justice, her whole reason for being is _winning_ .
The goal isn't to get the _correct_ conviction, but rather she wants to specifically convict the Defense's client - in this case Phoenix's client Max.
When she realized that it was her surprise search of Acro's room that led to Acro hiding the bust in his chair and bringing the bust to court, and as such the judge found decidedly that Phoenix's client Max was not guilty, that's when she realized she failed at her goal of convicting Max, and broke down the way she did.
just finished playing through this case for the first time myself and i can’t WAIT to see the boys go through this fucking roller coaster
its gotta be one of the most intense cases in the series😭

This case is at least better in the anime. This case is so out there and weird that it sorta does fit Pheonix wright. Cause all the cases are pretty out there in the way they play out and this one is by far the weirdest.

The way I screamed at the Edgeworth reveal as if I never played the game, or already knew the storyline 😂😂. I'm so happy for the boys.
The milk thing (For anyone who didn't know) was a representation of everyone at the circus's change in opinion of Max. It was a show of their support. He mentioned that he always needed a glass of milk before a big performance. Regina gave him milk because she always supported him, Moe gave him milk because he came around on his innocence after realising the truth about Acro, then all of the milk showing up was supposed to be from the rest of the staff and performers at the circus. This represents everyone realising that just because he's a jerk off, doesn't make him a murderer... I guess. Idk, this was such a dumb chapter lol
Arin finally definitively proving Acro's guilt by purchasing a nail at the Home Depot that was supposedly next-door to the courtroom really threw this case under the bus (or wheelchair as it were).
I’m high key amazed at the lack of comparisons between jamming ninja and ninja sex party like, it’s perfect 😭
My favorite part has got to be Maya's over-the-top reactions while tripping hard on shrooms! 🤣 (5:11)
Fun fact: Acro is the first charachter to have legs for his court sprite. Up until this point, we’ve only seen witnesses from the waist up!

Arin knows the old voice he did for Phoenix and elected not to do it, cause this time he found protag voice funnier - that happened shortly after they picked this series back up, and when there weren't that many old faces showing. I think they're feeling more pressure to remember now that even more familiar faces are showing up, though. I REALLY wish they'd done it for Lotta Hart. I love that jimmyjamboree voice : (

The Jammin Ninja combines a bunch of old Toku hero design elements - real Ishinomori stuff, especially when they mention the scarf. Zubat and (Robot Detective) K for the head, Cyborg 009 and Arashi's human form Hayate for the body (with some Inazuman thrown in), and that's Jiro's guitar he's strumming. Even the "stardom" bit, if you squint a little, might be a Robocon reference, _maybe._
Seeing Phoenix over analyze things needlessly has me thinking "Oh my god, is that how I sound? Am I just over analytic for completely unnecessary shit?"

Had to look through some studies, but apparently it's implied Phoenix doesn't make a lot due to him only taking a few number of cases here and there, on top of that his rates are purposely low as a means for those in serious trouble to be able to hire an attorney. With him still being a beginner level attorney, Maya spending much of his money for her own needs and him being left to pick up expenses from time to time, I imagine he doesn't have much money for himself 😂
Maya probably got paid more for the channeling gig with Dr Grey than Phoenix makes with any of his cases.

As much flak as this case gets, the ending is still pretty good. The anime especially expanded on it greatly by having Regina apologise directly to Acro
FINALLY, the best case of the game, and one of the best cases in the series.
