Well said by that young girl, { Maggie Devine } The Smithfield Horse Fair is a very old Dublin tradition and was in existence long before Ireland was a free state, the horse was the first form of transport and we owe a great deal of respect for these wonderful animals, They played a huge roll in many foreign wars, and as working and sporting animals, Smithfield is part of our Dublin folklore, let it live on.

Most of the locals despise this fair..not just the new professionals who live in the area but the older established residents too. Only this morning on the way out of Fresh supermarket during today's fair I witnessed one of the dirty skangers give the shop assistance a torrent of abuse for nothing. Fresh are even forced to close half of the shop during fair day. Don't give me any horse shit about "tradition"..the atmosphere at this thing is menacing.

@dublingerry Tradition does not apologize horse abuse. If peeps want to get a horse, they should swing their as* to the next riding school and that's it.

If the more responsible horse traders got it together to push out the dirty young rat faced thugs with their tennis ball hair cuts and sewer mouths then they might be able to show some leadership on this thing..at the moment there is none!
