Got mine in 2002/3. It was just out. Gigged it for years and still have it. Pedal broke off years ago but still rocked it. Picked up a broken mint me-50b for cheap and used it for parts to restore it. The thing i love about the me50 is that it doesn't change the tone in bypass mode. The newer models do. If you can pick one up then jump on it. The distortions can be debatable but you're getting an expression pedal, wah, delay, modulation, noise gate, comp and a tuner that are all really good. Plus you get an ok reverb (the mod is ok), and then you can also plug audio tracks through it. I loved it on guitar with my tsl2000 but i only use it now on my synths and, to be honest, the distortion and tone controls are awsome with synths. I love this thing. Glad to see there is still an interest out there, and yes, my mates call me an me-50 fanboy, but im cool with it. Keep her lit.
I used mine from around 2004-2008 for the modulation, delay , tuner and expression pedal. Great pedal. I sold it in 2009 and bought used again in 2016. I really missed the resonance and voice expression. I feel like it has more character than most multi fx pedals. I know it’s digital but it doesn’t feel as flat as digital from it’s time.
Buenisimo!! Tengo una y me pasa lo mismo.. para tocar en vivo la uso y es muy practica , la distorsion es discutible pero para la edad que tiene suena muy bien
This is a great unit for old school into-a-good-amp playing. No fuss. No little lead connectivity issues. Great design all very usable and easy to dial in. Exceptionally sturdy. You can use specialist pedals along with it of course. I got mine used for £100. You have to have a good amp or good amp sims / pedals, this just does the main guitar effects really well with no hassle. I have a pedal board of boutique pedals worth about £1500 and this is a great on-the-fly backpack alternative.
This was my first pedal ever. Being a beginner and not known much, multi-effect was the way to go. I sold it after a couple of years, because I bought the GT-8. Both pedals were actually under-utilised... I didn't really have references to the real amps and effects that were emulated in the ME or the GT. I replaced the GT-8 with the Line 6 Pod HD Pro and the Shortboard. I liked the fact that the Pod HD Pro could also be used like a pedalboard, as if you're controlling up to 8 pedals. The Boss multi-effects were more based on presets. It made more sense to me to have a pedalboard layout, and with the computer software it was easier to understand. Finally in 2021 I built a real pedalboard with a bunch of pedals. It took almost two years to finish, but some pedals are substituted sometimes. Having real, physical pedals and an amp (or using the Boss IR-200) really feels like home. I've got a lot of creative options, but the options are limited. No option paralysis anymore! Having said that, I kinda wish I still had my GT-8, because I'm much more knowledgeable today. It would have been fun to mess around with it and create some weird and wild presets. I remember the ME-50 wasn't great in preset mode. When switching between presets, there was this very short delay, a short sound dropout. So it didn't really work for rehearsing or gigging. You don't want to have that half a second's silence between your verse part and your chorus part. Or maybe there was something wrong with my box?
Sorry for the late reply. I’m just seeing this comment. I have the same issue with the boss me-50 in preset mode. I used it a lot for recording in the 2000s. For live use I used it for delay, phaser and the expression pedal. I’ve had numerous pedal board set ups since but wanted the boss me-50 again because of nostalgia. I think it’s great for anyone beginning to play and explore. Cheap and somewhat intuitive compared to the boss gt-8. Thanks for commenting!
@@RPMusicStudios I agree that it's simple and easy to use, the GT-8 has some menu diving. Too bad the ME-50 lacks the DSP, it would have been great for live use with the presets. It's got some great sounds in it regardless.
Stu from KGLW plays it live, i boufht it also last time, and i am really impressed, quaity is good, there are a lot of tones and effects, and its simple. Very good for beginners and medium players. Greetings James (lol)
I have a decent pedal board but just for band practice or messing around without a lot of cables it seems great. Plus I don’t own a whammy and I got one for 80 bucks. Way less than a whammy. Can’t wait to try it out.
I bought my ME-50 maybe 15 years ago??? I used it with my Monoprice 5 watter. It was so easy to dial in just the right sounds that I was craving. It's very easy to operate. Then I went acoustic for a decade and a half: 2 Martins, 000-28 Deluxe, D-18, a Gibson J-45, a 1968 Gibson small acoustic, several Takamine lawsuits. But now I feel the Strat, and LP calling again. Everything should be just like I left it. Take care all!!!!
The ME series goes back to around 1988. I had an ME5 and it had digital effects and analog overdrive and distortion. I don’t remember what it cost but it was probably $300 or less.
Hey Love this man. I've still got mine, and have used it live (including a Zeppellin show, great for Theramin effects) and recording since mid 2000s. I always found this unit to be really useful. Thanks for the post. Great demo.
@@RPMusicStudios There are foot switches you can get to move you between patches without having to bend down. I got tunes on SC and RN where I use it exclusively on the later recordings ('08-'14).
This is extremely helpful. I just picked one of these up at Guitar Center for an ensemble class I'm in, and I'm utterly new to pedals.. thank you so much for this!
I bought it again in 2023. I had the same one 10 years ago. But when I decided to build a pedalboard, I bought an ir player from AMT, revv g3 and I needed a bunch of effects pedals. And instead I just bought the me 50 again. I think it's as classic as the BOSS pedals. This is not old stuff. This is a classic.
BOSS makes go-to stomp boxes. This gives you the greatest hits in one unit. Kind of crappy wah, but the OTHER pedal modes are worth looking into. The owners manual explains a build your own distortion feature!
Nice, i have one and put it away...time to get it out after this .. liked your style and i have come across the same sound with just an fender amp modeler within the gt series.. i remember buying that cause the color was such a 🔵 blue.. plus being Boss i figured you couldn't loose for 99 bucks ..it still looks like new..
Pretty cool video Man.....#2022.....and i have finally one of this......i was running after the ME-50 for a long time now....i found this gem' just incredible for the amount of money.......it's a solid manufactured gear......and as far as the sounds are concerned.....this rack is a beast !!!! ......really crazy.....and a ridiculous amount of pretty cool effects......
ME-50->GE-7->RC-10r and call it a day. Could add a synth pedal or better compressor, but that's gravy. The ME-50 gets you 90% or so there, the EQ can get you to 95% of any sounds. Add in drums and a looper, and you've got plenty to play with.
@@RPMusicStudios I run it with "Blackstar mt stage 60" amp and I just find that it sound better if I turn down the treble on my amp a bit, sounds less harsch, especially the distortion effects
Well, i have used this for gigs back in 2004-2009 for subtle and not so subtle effects. Weird noises are subjective and genre dependent. Example I play Shoegaze style music which delay ,fuzz ,pitch bending and modulation are a big part of the sound. If I played 80s metal I would not use this pedal in the same way. Yes! That’s probably it’s best feature. It has stereo chorus, pan effect and ping pong delay. Sounds great going to two amps.

Love mogwai. Haven’t listen to them in a while. Saw them live in Philly 2008ish. Big pedal boards lol
Why demo the sound from this pedal using DELAY on ALL the fx ? Why not remove delay so we can hear each fx clearly !

your local gas station of course
