About text, if you click up on top where it says open other there is a color option and a text option. Clicking on text then opens up a transparent clip with the simple text filter already applied. That way you can use it as its own separate clip that you can put on a separate layer like you would in other video editors. Another thing to point out that's important is that Shotcut has features to take care of preview lag. In settings there is something called preview scaling. It helps the processing of the video filters and when overlaying clips on top of one another so that the lag is eliminated or at least reduced. The second feature to take care of lag is right under it in settings and that's proxy. They can both be combined if there is really bad lag going which should reduce lag from all angles.
These are two really awesome tips. Thanks for sharing these. It seems that maybe setting up a template/dummy project with some default audio and video layers already laid down (perhaps even with filters) would be a way to go. That way a blank base video, video, and text overlay layer could be sitting and waiting for the new clips. Definitely the only good way to include text. The same concept as having some default layers already in place when starting a new Photoshop edit. Filters on default/dummy audio tracks (especially loudness control filters) would be nice, but maybe new audio added to them wouldn't automatically receive the filters. I haven't used this program yet, but look forward to giving it a try.
this has been more helpful in helping me understand Shotcut than any other video i've found. Thank you so much. One thing i wish you could go over is how to edit down a longer video into a shorter one to make like a highlight reel using different sections of the long video. That being said i am getting an idea of how to do that myself. Again thank you.
Same here, I just returned to video editing after a new camera purchase and this first video is incredibly well done. Looking forward to more in this series! Thank You!
This Is a great tutorial, you explained things In detail yet It was easy to follow, going from the PS5 built In editor to this will allow me to make better videos thanks! :)
Hi. I recorded videos with Samsung and GoPro Hero 3, They are now edited. But the problem is the sound level of the GoPro videos. An old GoPro, so its microphone sucks. Can I somehow afterwards automatically edit the sounds of my video to the same level. Samsung sounds ok, GoPro is so quiet that you can't hear it at all. Thanks.
I'm starting my video journey just now and this has been a very useful video. I like the fact that you didnt downplay this software comparing against best ones, but just explained the limitations in a nice way so that beginners can understand It was well paced and well done. Thanks.
For my project I selected 1080p but my Properties says it's only 720x576 and even the Format says yuv420p. So which is it and why if I select 1080p should it say different elsewhere??
Does anyone know how to get 1080p resolution for facebook? tried everything from high, main profile h.264 and even the youtube format, tried lowering it 30fps bilinear good, still gives me 720p resolution, I'm tryna post it on a group page, I can see some can upload upto 1440p, I only wanted to get full 1080p resolution for facebook
How do I take a video that is say 30 minutes long then without removing parts make it say 5. I basically want to make a timelapse of a screen recording but whenever I look up how to make a timelaspe in shotcut it is for actual timelapses that have thousands of photos when thats not what I have.
this is really helpful. 👍as a professional video editor which free video editor is the best in your opinion? I'm a beginner and so far used open shot but it keeps breaking down. I installed shotcut but as you said too it's not the simplest with certain things. So before I invest too much time into learning how this works I would like to know if I should use a different one instead. I know everyone says Davinchi is the best free but they also say its the most difficult one. Thank you
this is sooo crazy right now, I literally can't get any of the clips to play, I see the timer moving but the picture doesnt have any motion... im so frustrated right now, because its like I can't edit this video to post it on my UA-cam channel.
Hi, THis video was so helpful for me - im finding that my video keeps stuttering in shotcut - is that a computer problem or is there a way i can fix that? :)
Thank you for the great instructions and explanation. It is making it pretty simple to understand in making a video for relatives 70TH! wedding anniversary.. THANK YOU!
Omg thank you so much. I am currently learning editing with shotcut for my channel and... phew, was it complicated. I went from not knowing much about editing at all to understanding this tool enough to try making a decent video tomorrow. We will see. Thanks!
There's no shortcut in Shotcut. You have to drag a clip into the viewer first, set the in and out points, then save it, then drag the clip onto the timeline. Now you don't have to edit the clip twice incase you somehow loose it on the timeline due to some reason because it's saved in the Playlist.
This is a good tutorial but u kinda didn’t explain the text at all...it’s there but how do you edit when and how long the text stays on the screen...it’s just there the entire video
Resolve is another pretty good free editor. Check out the tutorial ua-cam.com/video/J85HOkZr-QY/v-deo.html
Very impressed with this tutorial. Ive watched over 50 different ones and this I find is the best. Takes it reasonably slow.Great!!
Yeah,excellent step by step tutorials.
Thank you for slowly explaining and being
clear and precise, and not jumping around with the Arrow.
Appreciate you NOT SPEAKING FAST AND BEING IN DETAIL BROTHER. YES BROTHER.
I APPRECIATE THE INFO.
MAY SUCCESS NEVER LEAVE YOU!!!

I've been wanting to learn shotcut but time is something I don't have. I currently use Kdenlive. But I'll put it on the 2021 bucket list. Thanks!

I have to downgrade to Shotcut because I can't afford Adobe anymore and I'm struggling with the learning curve.

Do you have a tutorial on how to save your movie to an external hard drive. I have saved my video but I can't find it.
Does Shotcut work with vertical videos like TikTok?
is there a way to put 2 videos in the same canvas(multicam recorded)
For my project I selected 1080p but my Properties says it's only 720x576 and even the Format says yuv420p. So which is it and why if I select 1080p should it say different elsewhere??
How do you trim and save a clip
Thank you so much for your detailed tuition with the right tempo . Your layout and sequence are perfect

Well done , for someone with limited experience this is an essential video .Recommended for every beginner .
Been using shotcut for a few years & does a great job... light compared to the fat premier

If you have the time, I would learn davinci. It’s well worth the time to learn it. I have a video on that on my channel
Open shot is easier but it is unstable and keeps crashing.
this is sooo crazy right now, I literally can't get any of the clips to play, I see the timer moving but the picture doesnt have any motion... im so frustrated right now, because its like I can't edit this video to post it on my UA-cam channel.

Thanks Heaps,
Will Shotcut treat my videos and still pictures differently in the same horizontal strip? I would like to also include still pictures.
Thank you so much for your excellent, very easy to follow, instructional video!
I downloaded this but it don’t let me export video to here. Do you know the issue?
Thank you.....
You qualify as university lecturer...👍👍👍👍👍
i need help because all the tutorials i've used use clips but my recording that i want to edit is a full video with no clips
what about a single still shot duplicated over a long audio for a video upload?
Excellent-will try & comeback.
Im a bit late to the party but thankyou. Extremely helpful !

First I
is it ok for use on android?
This one is just on the computer. Not a phone app
@@Howfinity thanks. I'm assuming it will allow me to edit videos from android phone though.
Oh yea. If you filmed with your android, it should have no problem with the file format
@@Howfinity ok that's great. Thanks
😃
This video is not for beginners. Just a heads up.
Forget that, Scratch is the best video editor.
