- SADLY DUE TO THE CURRENT POLITICAL SITUATION & THE USE OF THE WORD 'DINGHY' IVE DECIDED TO END THE COMMENT FEATURE WHICH WAS BECOMING MORE TOXIC - MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE LEFT POSITIVE & ENCOURAGING COMMENTS OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS.
Another vast Estuary Explore, with ALL its inter-connected tidal creeks featured, which may be the longest & most meandering series I will ever produce.
The Salcombe/ Kingsbridge Estuary is an extreme example of a ria or drowned valley caused by rising sea levels, rather than a true Estuary, it is not supplied by large rivers. We begin at the segment of water around North/ South Sands/ Pound Stone. Fort Charles (also known as Salcombe Castle) was constructed in AD 1544, following a French invasion scare in the reign of King Henry VII.
Area off Salcombe is busy boat territory so boats may run close at speed so you need to be prepared for whatever occurs.
(In EP 2 we explore the lesser known & quieter Creeks of Shadycombe & Batson behind Salcombe).
