I think Shadow spending time with Cream would be really therapeutic! Cream and Maria would probably like the same things, like flowers, plushies, tea time, dressing up, baking, etc. Being with Cream would let Shadow revisit his inner child in a non judgmental way, maybe he could finally have the childhood he never has. He deserves it.
Being created as the ultimate life form, being abused, manipulated, and treated as a living weapon of mass destruction really makes Shadow have trouble having friends and learning to trust people, because the only consistent thing he's seen is that people have ulterior motives and people are never nice "just because"
