I'm from Michigan, so I grew up on Coneys. If you ever come to Detroit, try Lafayette (Or American, or both) That would be an ultimate taste test as they are both next door to each other. I agree with the other comments, not a lot of coneys use cheese. It's chili, mustard and onions and the hot dogs here have a snap. Come to town and try it, trust me, you won't be disappointed.

You actually rigged the Coney Dog to be bad. Alot of MI Coney Dogs are made using a Koegel Hot Dog which is known for its distinctive SNAP and they are far superior to the mushy, plastic wrapped, steamed hot dog you used for your example.

Kenneth Smotherman Yeah dude. They were weirded out by the split dog, but honestly it’s gives a little of a crisp outside layer bite, which is awesome. The cream cheese and sriracha go well together, and then add in some grilled onions, jalapeños, and maybe some relish or kraut and you’re set!

Kenneth Smotherman Yeah dude. They were weirded out by the split dog, but honestly it’s gives a little of a crisp outside layer bite, which is awesome. The cream cheese and sriracha go well together, and then add in some grilled onions, jalapeños, and maybe some relish or kraut and you’re set!

it wasn't even a true coney dog. it didn't have natural casing (it looked like a ballpark frank from what I could tell), and it shouldn't have cheese on it.
As someone from Seattle, gotta go with them. I remember when the Frankfurter was big there. It was an all dog place that I went for a long time. Last time I was in Seattle, it was kinda becoming hard to find. I liked the polish dog with mustard, relish and sauerkraut. I miss those.
