@@TheAstroflight Yes, he will be broken as we all are when that time comes but he will have the most amazing memories of all the National Parks they both visited. I believe this is why it was so important for him to take this last trip.

Would love to see your happy video running to your nearby park. By the way, that dog's been to every National Park in the U.S. & he's 10. Hasn't been hurt yet. No one should live in fear. I truly felt him when he said, "I just want my life back". I'm in tears. He has a friend to accompany him on his journeys. I had heart surgery then kidney stones. I have yet to come close to having a life again. Now I just exist. This man is astonishing. 😢
You will! Kidney stones are a nightmare but one day they’ll be a memory of what made you stronger. You survived heart surgery and it is still beating. I wish you a lifetime of love, health and happiness. I know I’m a random internet stranger but you’ve got a friend in me to talk to if you need one. I’ve been there…I promise you it CAN and WILL get better. 💕

And kidney stones are not a big deal! My dad had heart surgery at 80 and he got right back into an active life. MANY people of ALL ages have SERIOUS heart surgeries and they live, not survive!!!! Why not do something useful line volunteer work instead of whining about something that you can change!!!! No wonder you think this narcissistic jerk is astonishing!!!

I empathize fully with these two. My dogs have always been central to my life. My first dog even had a frequent flyer card that was presented to her from Pan Am (of course, no mileage accumulation, just an expression of gratitude and recognition of her travels on the airline).
I have also enjoyed travelling through my favorite national parks in the Western/Central US and Canada. The funniest occasion was when we were driving through Yellowstone and came across buffalo next to the road. The look on my dog's completely mesmerized face was priceless. It was as if she was asking, "what in the world is this?"
Because my passion for travel follows my love of animals, especially dogs in my life, I have always selected yorkies as my canine companions (easier to fly in the cabin of a plane). After retiring early, we are now travelling to various favorite locations around the world. Currently in Japan for nearly 15 months, my yorkie turned 13 last week. For the two of us, life can't get any better. I feel so fortunate and immensely grateful to be able to share it with my little one.

I don’t know the time frame of this story… but has reduced me to a pile of tears. Sox was a constant for loyalty, companionship and love. I recently sustained an hip fracture and have to start from the beginning to relearn to walk. I am inspired by you story so I can get home to my husband and my boy Murphy.
