  • Welcome to June of 2024, where we take part in the first Cast Iron Wednesday of the month with a cast iron discussion and qauestion-and-answer session. We encourage everyone in our UA-cam Live chat to ask and answer questions about cast iron cookware, whether it's the cast iron pans in my own collection or your own cast iron. Questions about cleaning cast iron, identifying old cast iron, maintaining, cleaning, and restoring cast iron, and cooking in cast iron are all welcome here! Feel fre to drop by our UA-cam Live session at 8:00 PM Eastern standard time, where we all gather to relax for a while and have fun talking about cast iron.

I’ve used my electric self cleaning oven to clean my pans, and it seems to work pretty well.

Generally, this is looked down upon because it could damage the cast iron. could cause warps, have unseen cracks get bigger. However, your iron. I have and developed warp in thin vintage pan, modern lodge came out fine.

I only have a couple vintage pieces that were my grandma’s, and they survived my oven treatments, but maybe I got lucky. The oven vaporized everything nicely, I must say. I will be more carful with older, thinner skillets, and take your advice.

Cowboy Kent Rollins places cast iron in the oven, not directly in the flames. He also said he would not do this with vintage cast iron.
