- Cooking with the EcoFlow River 2 Pro and Joulle Stove. I am tired of carrying around gas canisters to make meals while out camping. So, I wanted to try the Joulle electric stove from Stoke Voltaics to find out if it is good enough to replace my gas stove. I made three easy recipes with the stove only consuming 29% of my power stations battery. Overall, it works great and has a permanent spot in my camp kitchen.

Keep the cover on and it will boil faster.
I really like the concept, especially for the use of cooking inside a van powered by a small generator. Would have a stove as a supplement especially for winter when solar is less reliable. I would love to see a 12v version made by a more well known brand that can be easily cleaned with no risk of harming electronics. And, bigger capacity. It's a good start to the concept. Thank you for sharing something new!
Solar is less reliable in the winter, especially with LFP batteries. The problem with 12v systems is that they are usually limited to around 100w. So, they will never put out the power that an AC outlet can achieve. This stove uses 500w which is a lot for DC. It’s a great start to the concept. I want a bigger pot for the next generation. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
OVER PRICED... many Amazon alternatives for a fraction $$
Thanks for sharing. I’m genuinely curious what alternatives you came across that are low power electric camp stoves. Might be good for a future comparison.
Electric gets my vote for cooking INSIDE my van. I do not want to burn any fuel inside, as the byproducts are not something I am comfortable with. However, when cooking outside the van, its fire that will get my vote.
Makes sense. I plan to carry the gas stove in my ruck. It’s much lighter when you account for the weight of a battery.
Yessir, however I plan on traveling with my camera gear and will be on the computer with post production work. I also run an online ecommerce store which will require battery power... SO, (grin) with 220Ah in the well and a 2000w Inverter, why not cook also? Weather will not always cooperate with my plans, so . . . design for a purpose. I got a lot of great ideas from your posts during my build out, so.... THANK YOU!
Keep 'em coming, please.
100$ no thanks..cool but way over priced imo.. ✌️
That's an excellent point. My gas stove was around $60, but it also uses those cans that cost money. So, if you're using it frequently this might be more cost effective.
@@AdventureGearTV well my theory is you get what you pay for from my experience with Backpacking and Camping can you buy the low end gear you end up replacement 2 to 3×4×5 times but you buy the high-quality stuff most of it back with good warranties or they just plain outlast the competition that’s what I found out. A good example is the backpack from Walmart. Yes sir cheap do they last a long time if you don’t use them but if you use them a lot, they break down and pay up and get one that companies back up and they last forever that’s only one piece of gear my Nemo hornet tent example I’ve had that thing for like four years and it looks like the day I bought it and we take it out so all the time so I went and bought the bigger one and I paid up. sometimes you got to do it if you want high-quality stuff that last that’s my point I don’t know if you believe in that, but I sure do cheers everyone I learned early on in the camping and backpacking gear cheap stuff doesn’t last and we’ll know companies seem to last a long time that’s just been my experience and I’ve spent thousands of dollars on gear and I’ve thrown away hundreds of dollars of cheap stuff so my new motto is don’t be afraid to spend money on good stuff
It make a rice meal quick
Thanks for the valuable info. Any chance of letting us know what weights, temperatures and volumes are in Metric for us Aussies?
Yeah man, that coffee can be rough. But I like it so much because it is convenient and I add my fufu creamer! LOL!!
If you want nice instant coffee, try freeze dried organic.
Was good to see a stainless steel interior in the pot.
Good review. 😃
Truckers could use this too. We are always camping.
I guess I'm on the fence about gas or electric stoves. They each have a specific use given certain circumstances or settings. Currently I only have two forms of gas but am looking into hot plates as an option as well.
Your Friendly Veteran
I have a hot plate that I occasionally use, but it pulls 1800w. So, this little stove is great for smaller power stations. Now, I’ll reserve my gas stove for the ruck. Thanks for stopping in!
@@AdventureGearTV
I understand why you don't use it based on your specific needs.
Maybe you could do a little post on the generator you have and what are your pros and cons on it?
Will my 240 jackery run it
Hi Jamie, the Jackery 240 will not run this. This stove pulls 500w, while the E240 is rated to 200w continuous.
After meeting you and looking at your van build it’s got me thinking maybe sooner than later
It's a fun hobby, and it will complement your channel nicely by giving you the ability to do some dispersed camping with a vehicle for the base camp, while going on hikes further from Michigan.
@@AdventureGearTV my thought is I don’t have to worry about a bear busting into my tent when I go up north
@@AdventureGearTV and it doesn’t seem to over complicating to build this this way no build after looking at your set up I think I could pull something off like that
When ramen is nearly cooked crack the eggs and then stir them in. Eggs then cooks super quick. Like egg drop soup.
I will try that during my next camping trip. Excellent idea!
Try a concentrate coffee. It's better.
I wonder if the Eb3a could handle this? I’m definitely intrigued by it! Thanks!
It can. The EB3A is about 1/3rd the battery capacity, and has the inverter strong enough to power it. But, it might only give 3-4 meals on a single charge.
@@AdventureGearTV sweet! Thanks 🙏
Using your link, you just sold 1 my friend!
Nice! Enjoy, and let me know how it works out for you.
Will it work with the ecoflow river 2? NOT the pro model...
It will work with x-boost mode, but it will consume a lot of the battery power. Probably 25% per cook.
i dont see the point to this.
a balbali kettle draws 250 watts and boils water in 6 minutes at a fraction of the price.
what is the point to this other than being able to make popcorn.
I looked up that balbali kettle just now. It seems interesting. It’s also smaller than this thing which is already small to begin with. Can’t beat it for $30 on Amazon right now. Do they make a larger one?
@@AdventureGearTV i dont think they make a larger one but this one is perfect for my friday evenings with the lady friend.
i use the small river 2 with it in the car to make her tea on the way to dinner. this thing saves me from paying $7 for a cup of tea at the restaurant for her haha.
I just saw you on Jamie’s Lower Michigan channel. I’ve tried to support him with his UA-cam work. Excited to see your work with van life. It’s an area of interest for me. I also do videos of outdoor adventures.
Nice! Are you in Michigan as well?
Have you tried popcorn in it yet? I think I’d still prefer a gas stove. You can get way more than 8-10 cooks out of a can
I wanted to try the popcorn setting, but I couldn't justify buying a gallon of kernels and quart of oil for one use. I'm not normally a popcorn eater.
I’m with you this is a good intro concept. To cook a meal seems more time consuming than I prefer. And yes the volume is less than desired. Thanks for the info/ demo.
Maybe they'll make one that holds at least a quart. That would be ideal for one person cooking.
Amazon has it selling $99 dollars. No way that is a huge rip off. This should sell for $19 dollars💵at Big Lots Store. Glad you got a free one to promote it. Instant☕coffee🤮! Ya need to cover to bring to boil to cook eggs🥚🥚! Ramen Noodles🍜are a Stroke Maker🛌📋✍👨⚕🏥🚑loaded with Salt🧂& Chemicals🧪😱! Your a good presentor but this product sux's🤮! There are better products out there & the cost factor logical.
It is what it is. Did you find something similar for $29? Share the link here.
@@AdventureGearTV 12 volt products, years back Truck Stops were sellng & on line there are a boat load of them. I went L.P. Gas Stove/Oven Box Truck. I understand your needs but not for me. This product so over priced. Safe Travels. always Tommy🤠
@@agentofficerthomasa.porter107 I have genuinely never come across a 12v appliance that will boil water like this. I’m on the lookout. Thanks for stopping in.
I love how detailed you get. Very helpful.
Hi, Thank you. so much for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad it was helpful!
Ramen noodles is the preferred Hiker Meal
It’s one of my favorites because it’s quick and easy. The eggs rounded it out.
Great review
Thank you! What is your next review going to be about?
I just did a field test of a backpacking meal by Ready Wise Adventures Meals after a 5,6 mile leg stretch today before the heat set in
Great review. Thank you. 💖
Thank you so much! Are you interested in this type of cooking, or was this a random video in your feed?
Awesome!💯
Nothing better than a good cup of coffee ☕️
Exactly!
Sometimes, if instant is all you have, that works perfect it definitely does the job at getting you up and motivated
Awww, but I love fire! /lighthearted I can totally understand the dangers of using fire though, as well as your desire to travel lighter, especially if you don't have to keep up with as much.
I've been noticing you're wearing a specific style of shirt in a few different colors lately in videos. Is it merch? It looks comfy!!!
Although I should probably finish the video before asking questions. Lol!
Omg there's POPCORN MODE AHHHH THATS SO COOL
👀👀👀 you gonna pull a Rocky and eat some raw eggs? XD
Ahhh no raw eggs for you today hehe
So, I bought those shirts because the pocket is the perfect size for the Rode Wireless GO II. But, I gave the microphones to a guy I filmed with yesterday so, I didn’t have them for today. Audio quality is very important to me, and those mics are consistent. Today I used the VideoMic GO II. Also great, but I need to stay close to the mic and in front of it. Filmed the first half with iPhone 14 Pro, and second half with Sony ZV1. It was very windy today, so the iPhone would have bombed the audio as a standalone.
