- I would like to enter for Grade 8 (Jazz) this summer, with help from Rutland's finest teacher, Helen Brown. This is one of the set pieces that I have to improvise over using a backing track.... I've never done that before :-)!! It's freezing here, lesson canceled, so Mrs Brown has promised to give her assessment here. I suspect I will get told off for something to do with timing.
I have been playing it for about an hour and this is the result. It needs work... some tricky changes.
BTW I know I don't "need" a grade, but it is a lifelong ambition... must be done!!!!
Let me tell you your version of this song is inspiring. I'm a fellow sax player student. 12 yrs playing and counting...lol Thank You for such Sublime interpretation. Keep playing that sax brother
Great! Thank you. Greetings from Reinhard👍

Excellent. I felt like I was looking over the city of New York from the top of the Empire State building. 10/10
Hey, Matthew. Love your version of this tune. Saw some of your explanations of your studies and trials in learning the sax. I do slightly similar and understand your point of view to trying to play at all. Let alone being a pro. Like me, I can see you love the music, but I can say you play well compared to me for sure. Keep playing !!!!! It's a beautiful art and hobby. Sounds great to me . Also, your version of The girl from Iponima, did I spell that right??? Sounds great.
Great sound,
another gem I once lived in Oakham
Brilliant - enjoyed this. lovely tone.
I'm an adult learner too - picked a sax up when my some brought one home from school and I'm plugging away at things like Chris Gumbley's studies - working on Crazy Hepcats at the moment.
Why do we need to do grades? Just because they are there to be done!
Very well done!
amazing. One day I will play like you.
beautiful. yessssssssssssssssssss
très beau merci beaucoup
BRAVO ! ! ! ! !
Well Done Sir! By the way....if she does not like it and i agreed...we would both be wrong....
exelente!!!!
great stuff again - let me tell : a grade does not always translate in a marvelous musician - frankly : you don't need it .keep posting - I do learn a lot from listening to you
Great playing and gorgeous tone as always. Would love to hear you play In A Sentimental Mood and/or My Little Brown Book sometime :) Is that a Ref 54 btw?
@makcarib - ← what they said.
:-)
Grade Nine!
You haven't done what before, playing using a backing track? I'm sure I heard some of your recordings before :) . You are damn good. But this time I think you are a little too staccato and also sometimes a little ahead of the backing. I'm looking for more "floating" and less tut-tut-tut. Know what I mean?
