While listening to the radio when I was pregnant, I wondered what name I would choose if I had a girl. Had no ideas until I listened to the song Carrie Anne. I said That’s what I’m gonna name my daughter, I had a girl. And I did! Thanks to The Hollies.
The Hollies were probably the longest running Rock/Pop Groups to ever bless us with some magnificent songs by the ever best ever produced out of England..I loved there music..
mclain8855 i have heard that Jerry Garcia pulled strings and got a bunch of his studio buddies admitted. A guy thta had only played with the Dead one time! Ididnt think Garcia was like that. Too bad i always admired him. The Guess Who...way overdue , at least Burton Cummings. Thats why this whole thing is a farce. I mean look at their MC.
WHAT A DECADE! The Hollies have such a distinct harmonic sound that you know its them even if it's a song you never heard. A few years back, there was a Planters ad using an obscure Hollies song whose title slips my mind. Graham Nash has had the great forturne to be in two Hall of Fame acts that have instantly recognizable harmonies in the service of songs that are still with us.
Jd Mc in the 80s.....you mised the boat. The heyday was the late 60s. Maybe early 70s. Thye may have recorded a song in the 80s, but I dont remember them touring. They were considred an Oldies band by then. Like The Searchers, orFourmost, etc. they wouldnt have fit in with the Disco thing in the 80s and late 70s. To their credit. It was garbage. A badtime for music. All of the 80s.
I was born in the right one! I first heard them on the BBC wireless and then BBC TV in the early mid-60s when we lived in Malta - I fell in love with Tony Hicks - the MOST underrated guitar god rocker ever! He sang play guitar, had the best hair (by about '66) and gorgeous eyes. He's still fab - as cute as Paul McC. Love the Hollies, and not because my name is Holly.
I've just seen these guys tonight. Still original drummer and guitarist (Tony Hicks). Half empty theatre, sadly. These songs are timeless, try and see them before it's too late.
The original Hollies line up- Alan Clarke lead vocals/ Graham Nash rhythm guitar and vocals/ Tony Hicks lead guitar and vocals/ Eric Haydock bass guitar and vocals and Bobby Elliott drums.
@@Krzyszczynski - You are right. I didn't realize that. Vic Steele was the original lead guitarist too. I need to do better research. Thanks for the info and update. I will try to be more accurate in the future.
Love that montage..Surprised they didn't put "Stop, Stop, Stop" and "The Air That I Breathe" in there, but still really good..Was glad to see them finally put into the RRHOF
there were so many Great Invasion Band these guys were right up there with the Beatles Stones and DC5, what harmony Definitely one of my faves growing up , Born in 51 .Most Deserving
This is the ultimate!!! Of course I'll be returning to 1:54...how cute is that? A very fitting and well-made tribute. Thanks for another treasure, Vrinda.
From..chile....my opinion.....this is the band..most verdatile...and....legendary.... love the blues and rock and roll......allan clarke is big frontman....i like it
My it is easy to forget how many fantastic songs this band released, the should be included in ANY history of pop music, they had more solid hits than any of the big 3 of the 60s
Such an under-appreciated band. They are one of my all time favorites. Why did they not get inducted until 2010?! They deserved to be inducted at least 20 to 25 years ago...not sure when they started doing R&R HoF.
If nash wasnt in the band they probably would have never gotten in , I think their biggest hits came AFTER nash left the group and the footage they show before this egotistical nontalent ass started his speech was almost all nash
What could be a cooler story than two kids getting together in primary school and staying friends long enough to make amazing harmonies and music that will last for centuries? Graham may not have been "plugged in" instrumentally, but he and his mates sure as hell were plugged in vocally...
They're a wonderful group - I don't know why people must rate them compared to all other English groups. I certainly rather like Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, The Beatles, Yes, Derek and the Dominos, Faces, 10cc, The Zombies, Delaney and Bonnie, The Yardbirds, Dave Clark Five - and a few hundred others! It doesn't reduce my great liking of The Hollies. There's much really distinctive about Look Through any Window and Pay Me Back with Interest and Bus Stop. But you can't deny there's much distinctive about the music of the other groups I've just named.
Thank you soooo much for posting this sapphiretaurus!! I grieved when I found out our local cable station did not carry the channel showing the RHOF inductions!! I really wish they could have all been there especially my fave Tony Hick-but I understand when you have a previous commitment you should honor it. Congrats to The Hollies!! Well done boys! And well deserved-long past due. :) ♫♪
faeryquene Would’ve been great if Tony and Bobby could’ve made it to the induction but I’m sure the fans going to the already scheduled concert appreciated that they honored their commitment.
Yes I could see that-but it was insulting to Terry to not show at least a clip or two post-Graham Nash. Terry was very much a part of the group when they had their later hits.
I love the Hollies and was very glad that they got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, I am sad that Terry Sylvester was not included in the introduction clips. He had cause to feel slighted.
They were ace..on a par with the Beatles. Perfect layered pop songs..so.much talent in that band. Their tunes are classic..the intros you know instantly who they are....
According to a comment Terry made after the ceremony, he said he didn't arrive at the hotel until March 14th, and the rehearsals had been going on since the 12th. I don' know what the RNRHOF's policy is with rehearsals and whether you have to be invited or not, but no one has made any mention of being invited to them. Bobby and Tony could not come because they had a prior commitment - another concert taking place on the 17th and were in rehearsals prior to that, so they could not come.
The most outstanding song these guys ever did by pretty much a mile (over all the cute Brit Pop which was really nice yes), the"Academy"chose to only put the harmonica intro ?
Nik Cohn was an acute and fearless pop 'n'rock critic, but IMHO he got it badly wrong about the Hollies. Called them " ... a perfect hit machine; they never missed and were very boring". Man ain't got no cultcha!
Couldn't find part 2. Did he ever get around to saying anything at all about the Hollies? P.S. - Hollies - truly magical sound, clever songs, inspirational.
@katdowli Thanks, Kat! I'd like to know where those clips came from, too. I liked how they included the Shindig clips where they're being introduced, and Frankie Avalon's introduction.
Should be thought of more than they are, their harmonies and melody were truly a thing of wonder and quite honestly rival that of the Beatles. Fave song of anything featured on Mad Men wasn't TNK by Fab Four but On a Carousel. Poignant television use of a song.
@peterdchecksfield You're welcome, Peter. I love this montage. I don't know where that "He Aint Heavy" clip came from, either. Maybe someone on here knows.
It sure did took an awful long long time before the underated hollies was inducted in the rock n hall hall of fame. It is a shame really when others like madonna was inducted in such a short time. For me an unabashedly bababoomers rock n roll is still here to stay.
Does anyone have the interview clips of Graham Nash from 1964 and Allan Clarke from the late 70s or whenever? There's a bunch of clips I'd like to see that's in the montage.
Of course The Hollies should have been inducted many moons ago. It seems as if RRHF likes to wait to the last minute, that is when the inductees-to-be become frail and/or ill. I think, as another fan posted, that they wait for new acts to come up (more like the big modern moneymakers. The Hollies could never think of the present money made when they themselves were in their great hayday. Money is the idol. Hollies rule.
Thank you England for giving the world such good music.
GOD save British music
The Hollies are so great, still one of the best bands ever!
Allan Clarke has finally returned to music after 20 years! He has a new album coming out next month! Welcome back, Allan!
the world will never experience this kind or originality again until the world is as free as the world was back then.
While listening to the radio when I was pregnant, I wondered what name I would choose if I had a girl. Had no ideas until I listened to the song Carrie Anne. I said That’s what I’m gonna name my daughter, I had a girl. And I did! Thanks to The Hollies.
The " incomparable " Hollies.......the greatest... most prolific.....underrated group......ever....BAR NONE.
The Hollies were probably the longest running Rock/Pop Groups to ever bless us with some magnificent songs by the ever best ever produced out of England..I loved there music..
If anybody deserves to be in the rock hall of fame it's these guys. No one had cooler or better sounding harmonies.
mclain8855 i have heard that Jerry Garcia pulled strings and got a bunch of his studio buddies admitted. A guy thta had only played with the Dead one time! Ididnt think Garcia was like that. Too bad i always admired him. The Guess Who...way overdue , at least Burton Cummings. Thats why this whole thing is a farce. I mean look at their MC.

Great all time band.
I can't believe it took till 2010 to get these guys in the Hall.
I've always liked The Hollies.
Amazing display of various clips of The Hollies!!!
Congratulations to each member of the group, much deserved this award.
The Hollies En El Salon de La Fama del Rock and roll Se merecen Muchachos uno de mis grupos favoritos
the hollies great rock and roll
Welcome to the Stevie Van Zant show featuring a brief appearance by the Hollies.
Yes. He makes me want to puke.
gritsnsand the first 3:42 mins were the best, but 4minutes of boring monologue is a waste of my time-- what a drag! just gimme the Hollies!
Saw them many times as a teen in the 80's thanks to my dad and grew up listening to them at home. still luv em.....

never be bands like this ever again
nope never again
:(
you are so right
51 was a good year to be born, especially for music, and the British invasion

I love Allan Clarke.

Thanks for all the parts you posted!!!
The Hollies are great. I saw them live 2 years ago and they still GREAT!!!!
5*
Best. induction. film. ever.
God Bless Little Stevie.
What a great band. Legends!
Next to the Beatles the Hollies were the best "british invasion" bands---no question.
Snivelin J No no no - Stones, Kinks , Animals!
+R Jay that's why the Hollies are so underrated lmao no one cares bout them putting other well known bands at the top XD
+R Jay are you kidding? The Kinks and The Animals just contributed a few hits which are not big hits all
No, The Beatles and the Hollies
YES!!!

Cindy Range I agree. I feel like they were just as good as the Beatles, but didn’t have the representation the Beatles did.
If nash wasnt in the band they probably would have never gotten in , I think their biggest hits came AFTER nash left the group and the footage they show before this egotistical nontalent ass started his speech was almost all nash

Fantastic!♥
just amazing......:))
a classic band......thanks for the share aristacourt :)
Forgot just how good these guys were, guess I'll look for a greatest hits album.
Thanks so much Vrinda - Great clips and rarities to - Cheers Hon !!
