I had to learn the hard way not to give my energy and time to people who were not appreciative of it. Before that I would struggle with guilt. It's important to let go of needing approval too. I liked that mindfulness book called 30 Days to Overcome Guilt by Harper Daniels.
Guilt and wanting approval can be such barriers to being boundaries. Being willing to risk those for a more honest and connected relationship are huge.
