Very interesting vid , always liked the axial flow , used to go with the head fitter and fix combines, case always easier to repair, great memories thanks kurt. 👍
In 1977 I completely baffled my English teacher by explaining how axial flow was so different to traditional combines in my English spoken exam. Got an A for my efforts. Fantastic machine.
Always wondered what made them different, now I know. I can remember being in the back end of a 98 dominator helping a mate with repairs, straw walkers and knees are not a good combination
I grew up on a farm in Minnesota and I remember in late 70's and early 80's there was wet harvest times and farmers had hard time getting combines to work in those wet conditions but the Axial Flow worked better then standard combines.
Great interview, there's a UA-cam video of an old SF running with a tracked Lexion which just shows how far the technology has come! Not to mention autosteer, yield monitoring, fly by wire etc.
Great video Kurt nice o Rob to take the time to help on the video 👍 first time I hauled grain from an axial flow in the 80s was a shock to the system tractor didn't have the power to keep up if u were loadin goin up a hill🙄😳😂👍
Very educational vid I'm subscribed to this channel lord muck and George Saunders I enjoy all content in all 3 channels that case puma model is a beauty
Interesting vid👍having run older MF combines (walkers) which were design for Australia conditions but early CaseIH AF didn’t have horsepower, Pa still prefer walkers, it’s not until 2100 series which we had 2188 with 36ft front that harvest would never be same. Efficiency that we gain from CaseIH. Fast forward we now have a red top 8010 (250 series is later evolution of 8010 AFX) with 40ft, we need 18t chaser bin n 2 semi trucks to keep up with harvest. But when look at CaseIH combine it’s servicing where we save in down n talking from experience I found CaseIH was easier clean/blow down, changing bars then JD. There are less moving parts then all other combines, which make simple, easier maintain. It be interesting to see in few years time weather other makes of combines will hold value, realisability, as weather these big twin rotors are worth buying n operating or will single rotor CaseIH will be well proven design?
NH would have you believe that the guy who invented Axial Flow took it tho Case IH, but then realised that it would work better with Twin Rotors. Case IH said no thanks, so he took it to NH, who put it on their TR Combines, which then became the CR Combines. I think that story is a load of Bollox! Funny how they both ended up as the same CNH Company isn’t it? But also funny that both Combines share a lot of the same equipment, such as headers and engines. As regards capacity, I doubt whether there is much between them.
What I need to know is, are these machines any kinder to rabbits? - If you've ever tried to make a stew out of rabbits caught up in a conventional drum & concave, you'll know what I'm on about! Anyway, on the farm where my brother used to work, way back in the '70s, they were the first in our area to get an IH Axial Flow, and they never looked back. If I recall, blockages were fewer and easier to clear, and the throughput was the big seller. Their straw was needed for the livestock (beef) and for the Squire's private stables - He had a few race horses, don'tcha know, what? Although the Squire didn't do the hands on farming, he certainly had his finger on the pulse, and being a tight fisted sort of 'gentleman farmer' he didn't throw his money about on frivolities. Even after his demise, and his nephew took over the farm, they kept to the same machines, and even bought a second combine to cover the extra land that he'd bought up as the smaller farmers fell by the wayside. - That'll teach 'em to buy New Holland, I suppose?! - But hang on a minute, we had New Holland on our farm and they did alright for us!
Next door 😂 I drove the Dutchman's combine back around 92' and we also went and did some for Burdens. I remember Harty farms ran a Massey back then I think.
@@LordMuck they had a couple of artic John deeres and a few different small makes, I used to do potatoes for them then about a thousand acres of power harrowing and drilling last time we were there was 1989 on that farm then aJI went back in 94 to spread paper sludge to land so our paths jussed missef matey, keep up the good work
@@harvest585 I think that year they'd bought (or had a demo) of a big Massey combine as we could see it across from Eastchurch marshes. I can also remember Lerwills and also Attridges one of which (can't remember which) ran a pair of TW-35's.
I'm more the YELLOW one lol.. best one was the SPERRY NEW HOLLAND CLAYSON 1540.. then the 8080.. TF range didn't like look like the case lol .. the TX68 plus was bad ass lol.
Thanks very interesting.we are based in Sittingbourne next to sheppey .Burden bros might still have your old combine in there combine graveyard .that could be another will it start episode.🤔
Yes the rotary separator was around back before power driven machinery existed but IH were the first to combine it all into one self propelled harvesting unit successfully.

Used to work at a case dealer in Manitoba Canada and I ran and hauled a lot of these. Great machines overall and very nice to operate.
