    Saddens me seeing God - a God of love - being taunted, mocked, and even cursed in something as petty as some of these comments.
    Thank You for Your mercy and forgive them, please, for they know not what they do.

      Jehovah is also the God of Truth. What's difficult and frustrating is that truth can be subjective. Human's truth is based on our (very limited) senses. But Jehovah's is ALL, so Jehovah's truth is thee truth. Truth can be just as complex as untruths. It's so mind-boggling.

    Just to be clear, God does forgive people who have done evil in His name, if they repent and believe. King Nebuchadnezzar and the apostle Paul are two examples of this. The adversary will surely love us to beleive that God cannot forgive you. Yah is simply saying that you will incur guilt for using His name in vain. Proverbs 28:13--"He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion."

    This is technically incorrect. While committing evil in the name of God is indeed a GRIEVOUS sin, it is not the worst sin. Mr. Prager incorrectly interprets "will not hold guiltless" to mean "will not forgive". This is simply untrue as God does not hold guiltless anyman who breaks ANY of his commandments, not just this one. We are guilty when we commit sin, but the whole point of forgiveness is to take away guilt. In fact, the worst sin is the sin against the Holy Spirit in which a person willingly rejects the mercy of God. This is the only sin that cannot be forgiven because the person is unwilling to accept forgiveness.

      +DeusVult! Excellent point, but that does not take away from the fact that there are constant debates on the worst sin, and here he explained why. Still, if you commit sins in God's name then it's not a single simple sin. You're adding a double sin, so to speak. One, you're lying about God, in demonstrates that he tolerates such evil then you're committing the act of whatever sin it is. I know it sounds child like as I'm not as eloquent as some. Still, I understand his view on it and yours as well.

      +DeusVult! Not really, the point of forgiveness isn't to take away your guilt, it is to mend the wound made by the sin.

    • @deusvult1633
      @deusvult1633 9 років тому +2

      deanpetrow No, there are two aspects to sin. Guilt and temporal damage. Guilt means that the sin is held against you in heaven and can possibly exclude you from heaven given it is a mortal sin. Temporal damage are effects caused by you sinning. "Mending the wound made by sin" would be correcting the temporal effects. For example, lets say a commit murder. If I am truly sorry for the sin and confess it to a priest acting in the person of Christ, the sin is no longer held against me and I am returned to God's friendship. If I were to die then, I would eventually after purgatory be welcomed into the kingdom. However, after the confession, I may be restored to God's friendship, but the priest may say 'okay now turn yourself in" because I must still make up in justice for the temporal effects of my sin.

      I may not be the best educated in this topic, I would like to point out how the average person defines forgiveness. When your child lies to you, as a example, you may forgive them and still love them. That's doesn't mean they are not guilty of the lie or that wounds are mended, it just means that you, as a parent, are willing to look past the lie and continue to love. Of course, you will always take more caution when it comes to their words later on, but you still forgave them.

      Prager misses the point. The third commandment is making a broad application. Both are correct. Saying the Lord's name in vain, or bringing God's name down to our level is saying/carrying it vain. Prager is correct in saying that a person who carries God's name to do evil violates it. Praise God that Jesus fulfilled the law. We can be guiltless of our sin, because Christ died nailing to the cross. Whosoever believes.

If everyone followed the ten commandments (and no human law), the world would be a WORSE place. As is evidence in the previous world run by Christians... Why the hell would any omniscient, moral, and all-loving being ever do such a thing? Yeah so what, slavery is a huge part of human history, and still exists today, that doesn't make it right, or acceptable, or acceptable that God condoned it a long time ago. Think outside the box, there is nothing in the bible that ANY person of the time could not have written or known about. It's all full of stolen myths, pegan legends, and medieval ideologies.

    • @Balgore8
      @Balgore8 9 років тому +1

      Wayne Ekeh Though I could easily tear apart those passages and interpret them literally (which allows rape in almost every other circumstance where it exists), giving you the benefit of the doubt on this one, and since you reasonably replied, I will pass on rape, and move on to slavery. There are many passages directly condoning slavery, and how to treat your slave. As well as many passages where God committed genocide on entire towns, including the babies and children. Etc. Regardless of how you justify this, or rational it in your mind, if there is a God, I do not wish to believe he is that short-sighted and morally weak to write a book so full of garbage ethics and actions. And if that is the one true God, I definitely choose not to follow him.

    Even if the Bible is the perfect word of God, this video demonstrates that it was translated by imperfect human beings so any English version of the Bible cannot be called perfect.

    • @joefairchild6271
      @joefairchild6271 8 років тому +6

      I have never heard anyone say that a translation of the Bible is "perfect" -- that's why there are different translations, putting the Hebrew and Greek (after ongoing study of those languages) into the language of the day. "Take," as described above, is the 1611 King James Version, when "to take someone's name" (e.g. wife taking the husband's name) meant more than it does today. It is important, then, that not only is the Bible read, but also studied, using commentaries, dictionaries, and study guides as well. All my humble opinion.

    • @MrGeocidal
      @MrGeocidal 8 років тому +1

      Joe Fairchild They say the Bible is perfect and most people read the Bible in their own language.
      True you can study the Bible in Greek and Hebrew but when most people use the term Bible they mean in their language of choice.
      People cite the Bible and then say it's indisputable because it's perfect. They cite it in their own first language without reference to the Hebrew NT or the Greek OT.
      Even the NT in Koine Greek is a translation because Jesus spoke in Aramaic, not Koine Greek.
      So even if you can read ancient languages it is impossible for you to read Jesus' words without using a translation.
      I agree that commentaries, dictionaries and study guides are very useful but as these were written by imperfect man they cannot make an imperfect translation perfect.

    • @MrGeocidal

    Love PragerU but this video is in error because it contradicts the word of God and God's word does not contradict itself. That or I misunderstood or missed something.
    To some up the "UNFORGIVABLE SIN" - basically it is a settled disposition of life (lifestyle) that rejects the testimony of the Holy Spirit regarding Jesus. Even if someone has intentionally said such things, they can still repent and prevent a settled rejection of Jesus.
    The way to not blaspheme the Holy Spirit is to receive Jesus Christ, and to put one’s loving trust upon Him today. It means to stop rejecting the work of the Holy Spirit in bringing us to Jesus.

      @@samuelcarver1343 well good news. I found that brothers write up on it for you praise God. I believe it will bring you good news.
      "“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the
      blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a
      word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks
      against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the
      age to come” (Matt. 12:31-32).
      The primary subject of these verses is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, also
      known as the unforgivable sin, since Jesus said that this was the one sin that
      would not be forgiven. There are four views on what the blasphemy of the Holy
      Spirit is:
      1. You permanently reject the testimony of the Holy Spirit concerning Jesus
      Christ. This is blasphemy because in essence you are calling the Holy Spirit a
      liar.
      2. The work of the Holy Spirit is to lead you to Jesus Christ. Hence, you
      blaspheme the Holy Spirit when you die without receiving Jesus Christ as
      your Savior.
      3. We do not know what the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is since Jesus did
      not specify what it is.
      4. You blaspheme the Holy Spirit when you say (out of an evil heart, not out of
      ignorance) that the work of the Holy Spirit is in fact the work of Satan or of
      a demon.
      As we study this passage, we will determine which of these views is correct.
      However, let me say up front that this is not a salvation issue. You will not lose
      your salvation if you believe any of these views.
      Before we get into the study, let me say this about view number 1. That
      view is based on John 15:26: “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to
      you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will
      testify of Me.” But John is also the one who said that if we do not believe in Jesus,
      we are rejecting the testimony, not of the Holy Spirit, but of the Father and we
      are calling the Father a liar (1 John 5:9-12). That is because the testimony which
      the Holy Spirit gives of Jesus came from the Father. So those who reject the
      testimony of the Holy Spirit are not blaspheming the Spirit but the Father. And
      Jesus said that every blasphemy (including blasphemy of the Father) will be
      forgiven.
      Let us begin with verse 31. Jesus said, “Every sin and blasphemy will be
      forgiven men,” which raises the question, “When are sins forgiven: before or after
      death?” Heb. 9:27 says, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
      judgment.” Rev. 20:13 says that the unbelieving dead will be judged according to
      their works on Judgment Day. If God says to a man on Judgment Day, “You are
      guilty of murder,” can that man then say, “You’re right, God. What I did was
      wrong. Will you forgive me?” No. Once a person dies, all unforgiven sins become
      unforgivable. Sins can be forgiven only before death.
      So, if a person commits the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit when he or she
      dies, why would Jesus single that one sin out as unforgivable if all sins become
      unforgivable upon death? What he is saying is that the blasphemy of the Holy
      Spirit is the one sin that becomes unforgivable before we die.
      To better understand what the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is, we need to
      know the definition of blasphemy. The Greek word for blasphemy in verse 31 is
      blasphemia (bla-sfā-mē’-a), from which we get our English word. It is ultimately
      derived from a combination of two other Greek words: blapto, which means “to
      injure,” and pheme (fā’-mā), from which we get our word “fame” and which
      means “news, report.” So blasphemia literally means “an injurious report.”
      Thayer’s Greek Lexicon defines it as “slander, speech injurious to another’s good
      name.” It is possible to blaspheme (speak slanderously against) beings other than
      God (which is what Michael the archangel refused to do concerning Satan in Jude
      9), but in the New Testament, blasphemy is usually directed to God.
      The point is that blasphemy is spoken. In verse 32, Jesus says, “Anyone who
      speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks
      against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.” Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is
      speaking against the Holy Spirit.
      When we place verses 31 and 32 in context and look at what follows
      (verses 33-37), we see that Jesus is still talking about speaking. He calls the
      Pharisees a “brood of vipers,” and then says, “How can you, being evil, speak
      good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” We must
      remember that verses 31 and 32 are part of a speech Jesus gives in verses 25-37.
      And what prompted that speech? The Pharisees said something.
      Most of this story is repeated in Luke 11:14-26. Luke left out the part about
      the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, but, according to Luke, Jesus did bring it up
      later, in Luke 12:1-12. Notice that in the context Jesus is again talking about
      speaking (“whoever confesses Me,” “anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man,” “do not worry about...what you should say”). Blasphemy of the Holy
      Spirit is spoken.
      So what did the Pharisees say that prompted Jesus’ speech in Matthew 12?
      In v. 22, Jesus healed a blind and mute man who was demon-possessed,
      presumably by casting the demon out. The multitudes in v. 23 offered an
      explanation for this miracle: “Could this be the Son of David?” The Pharisees could
      not accept this, so they offered an alternative explanation, in essence an
      argument to refute the multitudes’ explanation: “This fellow does not cast out
      demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” Jesus cast out the demon
      by the power of the Holy Spirit, but what the Pharisees said was that Jesus
      actually cast out the demon by the power of Satan. This is what prompted Jesus’
      speech.
      Jesus’ speech consists of five rebuttals to the Pharisees’ argument. The first
      rebuttal is, if I am casting demons out by the power of Satan, then Satan’s
      kingdom is divided, which means it cannot stand.
      The second rebuttal is, if I am casting demons out by the power of Satan,
      then your exorcists must be casting demons out by Satan’s power as well.
      The third rebuttal is, “if (a better translation would be “since”) I cast out
      demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.” In
      other words, the fact that I am casting demons out by the power of the Spirit is
      evidence that you are witnessing, not Satan warring against his own kingdom, but
      the kingdom of God warring against Satan’s kingdom (v. 28). And I could not have
      cast out this demon unless I had first overcome “the strong man,” Satan himself
      (v. 29), which means that I am winning. So you had better join my side (v. 30)
      because if you are not with me, then you are against me.
      The fourth rebuttal is, “Therefore,” since all of the above is true, since I am
      in fact casting the demons out by the power of the Holy Spirit, you had better be
      careful what you say, because if you pursue this line of argumentation, you will
      blaspheme the Holy Spirit, which is unforgivable. You can say what you want
      against me, but don’t you dare blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
      The fifth rebuttal is, your argument comes from an evil heart. So repent,
      because you will be judged for everything you say.
      In context, therefore, Jesus brings up the subject of the blasphemy of the
      Holy Spirit because he is answering the Pharisees’ argument that he is casting out
      demons by the power of Satan. Mark also records this argument between the
      Pharisees and Jesus in Mark 3:22-30 and he specifically says that Jesus brought up
      the subject of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit “because they said, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’” So view 4 is the correct understanding of what the blasphemy of
      the Holy Spirit is.
      This means that when the Holy Spirit performs a miracle, a blasphemer
      would say that the miracle was performed by Satan. A born-again Christian who is
      filled with the Holy Spirit would not blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Only a person with
      an evil heart who is in outright rebellion against God (like the Pharisees) would be
      capable of doing this. But this is also why we do not want an evil heart of unbelief
      to rise up within us or in our fellow believers (Heb. 3:12-13). We want to stay as
      far away from this as we can.

      So in response, the Pharisees actually did it, but Jesus explained to them what they did and He warned them against doing it. If doing it out of ignorance was a final judgment, then there would be no need for a warning. Now that you know/ understand, you'll only do it if you wanted to harm God by saying it. That's when you have done it, and you will not be forgiven. After learning what it is and being born again, a Christian will never do that. Be encouraged by this. Thanks for reaching out. Sir the NT makes it very clear the unforgivable sin is to blaspheme Holy Spirit harden your heart against God and never soften it
    Also true repentance from any sin will receive Gods forgiveness but we can never confuse forgiveness and responsibility ALL sin has consequences whether it's jail or loss of family trust or friends BUT you can know God forgives and FORGETS so whatever the sin you must forgive yourself

    I'm very angry that I never learned the 'right' version of this commandment. I left the church before I studied the commandments themselves in depth, and I didn't study them much when I was an atheist. But lately I've been working on building my own belief system, and I've been really surprised with the bible. It's quite beautiful, but very dense. But the wording is especially fascinating to me. It's so direct and blunt that it can be hard to realize how much it's really saying. Something as simple as god saying "I am that I am" to moses is absolutely MAGNIFICENT. So brilliant it actually makes me think it WAS divinely inspired.
    But I always assumed this one meant using god as a curse. I thought it was stupid. And then today I'm studying the commandments, and lo and behold, it's actually an incredibly good commandment to have. And I do have a hard time imagining god giving a shit about how we use his name in common talk. If he did, that would just get us overly fixated on the 'right language' for god (even more then we've had), and god cares a lot about freedom, including the freedom of speech. I mean, ffs, jesus was killed for 'blasphemy', that's literally just speech suppression.

    In Martin Luther's Small Catechism, his explanation to this commandment says: "We should fear and love God so that we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie or deceive by His name, but call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise and give thanks." The "cursing and swearing" are evils done in God's name; more than simple slips of the tongue. All brings dishonor on the Name of the Lord.

    How do you go from "will not hold guiltless" to "will never forgive"? I'm pretty sure that "will not hold guiltless" simply means that it's a sin. Just like any other sin, we will not be held guiltless unless we repent.
    Also, I doubt your interpretation of the translation "carry" or "misuse" excludes utterances of God's name. In fact, I believe it was the primary point of the commandment. That being said, of course, committing an act of crime or sin in the name of God or religion is still very bad. The condemnation of such is still in the spirit of this commandment.

      Taken from Mark, chapter 3:
      "'Assuredly, I [Jesus] say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes with the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation;’ because they said, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’"
      Jesus was addressing the Pharisees who had renounced him and were using their religious authority to convince the congregation that Jesus was of the devil.
      Furthermore, in Matthew 12:31-32:
      "'Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.'"
      Wherein the Son of Man is the external presence and works of God, and the Holy Spirit is that power of God within the souls of men. By an interpretation, those who would use the power of God which they possess in themselves to do evil have done something unforgivable--far worse than simply renouncing the Lord.
      Hope that helps.

    • @MarketAndChurch
      @MarketAndChurch 10 років тому +4

      David Ripplinger I think because the original hebrew has been used in other instances and examples, wherein we can deduce that when this term is used in the bible, it means "will never forgive." You're talking about translations from another language after all, and there are words in English that the Hebrew cannot quite express to Hebrew-readers the full weight that that same term carries in English, so surely you might be able to relate.
      To pick apart this video based on Prager's talk without correcting Prager's Hebrew or offering up insight from how "will never forgive," is used elsewhere in the text, may mean that you probably don't know hebrew or have scholarship of the bible in hebrew on this particular feature?
      Lastly, you can't make up your own interpretation of the text based on the yearnings of your heart or your ego and project what you want the text to say, unto the text, if the text doesn't say that. It blatantly states "carry" and not "say."

    • @MarketAndChurch
      @MarketAndChurch 10 років тому

      Jamie Rice But that english translation is just making an attempt to translate the Hebrew. If the Hebrew means "Carry," then the accurate translation is "Carry." There was an old english translation done in the 1950's by American pastors and Oxford scholars, that accurately use the word "Carry." Unfortunately, that translation does not account for most of the bibles that people use today.

    • @davidripplinger9367
      @davidripplinger9367 10 років тому

      MarketAndChurch You bring up a good point. I'm not familiar at all with Hebrew, so I personally can't know for sure exactly what the original text meant, and often times in translation there are either mistakes or there is no possible one-to-one correspondence. I admit I'm not absolutely certain in my analysis of Prager's interpretation.

    I wrote about “The Greater Sin” in a Deacon Digest a while back. In it I quoted Mark 3:28-29 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” Dr. Prager states the worst sin is “Committing Evil in God’s name,” and that his proof is Exodus 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.” He also states that this commandment is the only one that states that “God will not forgive a person who violates the commandment.” His argument is that the word “guiltless” means “will not forgive.”
    The more I thought about it the more I wondered that if that were true, that would mean that by taking God’s name in vain you’re also blaspheming the Holy Spirit. It can be argued, I guess, that when you take the Lords name in vane your blaspheming the Holy Spirit too since they are the same person.
    My question is, would that be a stretch? Was I wrong in my Digest or is Dr. Prager wrong with his interpretation, or are we both right?

  • @davidanders1565
    @davidanders1565 9 років тому +7

    Hmmm. I disagree with this, solely because if you are indeed a Christian and if you are indeed saved, you can't commit evil in God's name. It's just not possible. The Holy Spirit will not allow you. People today define Christianity as something it is not: the simple belief in God. Just because you believe there is a God does not mean you'll go to Heaven. In fact, if that's all you do, you will not go to Heaven. You must accept Jesus, since he is the ONLY way to Heaven. Once you accept him, there is no losing your faith or salvation, it's impossible, and any sins that God will not forgive are impossible for you to commit. You just won't be able to do them. It's a hard concept to understand until you are saved yourself and feel the Holy Spirit inside of you.

    There IS an unforgivable sin; Jesus spoke very specifically about it. "All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men," Matthew 12:31.
    As has been pointed out already, your explanation of the third commandment does not rule out the traditional interpretation. I believe that both meanings have their place in Scripture.

Or following the concept that the ends justify the means. Joseph Stalin believed that murdering, torturing, starving, and/or enslaving people were good things to do, because he believed that somehow that would result in the whole world becoming a paradise on Earth for everyone. Convincing others that doing evil is actually a good thing, breaks down morality, and ultimately leads to hell existing on Earth.

      Jake Kamps Entirely agree since between muslim and christian there is a fundamental difference in beliefs especially as the nature of jesus himself. Where we believe him as a mortal man and christian believe him as divine. Even in the term of language, Allah refers only to one being, a word with only singular noun in arabic so totally unsuitable for the trinity concept in christianity. Not to start any inter-religion debate but acknowledging the god of one religion is equal to accepting the authority of its teachings....which is bad call even among monotheism when each have conflicts in their basic beliefs.
      I really like his discussion and insight on morality of the commandments but professionally he should not have touched any other religion as example which is beyond the context christian religion...to be relevant he should have used a christian historical figure as example....maybe the borgia pope perhaps...if their historical tv series are anywhere accurate, it is a very good example of carrying the name of god in vain....or maybe the crusaders who instead of going to the holy lands, pillaged the Byzantine city of Constantinople.

    Here's two more on the unforgivable sins,
    Matthew 12:31-32 (NKJV)
    The Unpardonable Sin
    31 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
    Mark 3:29-30 (NKJV)
    29 but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”- 30 because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”
    The Peril of Not Progressing (Losing salvation)
    Hebrews 6:4-6 (NKJV)
    4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him
    to an open shame.

  • @johnnyandrew9083
    @johnnyandrew9083 7 років тому

    Mark 3:20-35 Tells what the unpardonable sin is. Look closely at verse 30. Blaspheme means to insult. Some of the religious crowd said Jesus did the miracles by the power of satan thus insulting the Holy Spirit and sealing their fate. So to blaspheme the Holy Spirit is to attribute the divine to the demonic. Verse 30 determines this is why Jesus spoke this. They indeed rejected Jesus Christ but that's forgivable like all sins if it is repented of but insulting the Holy Spirit can never be forgiven Only God himself knows when that line is crossed and perhaps the person guilty of it.

    Great series of the ten commandments. Honestly. But this escalated quickly here. How can a person who murder be forgiven and one who steal in the name of God not be forgiven? How "the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name" went to the statement of the end "God will not forgive you!"? I feel some kind of sadness because all other videos are extremely logical, but this one seems to fanatic; and contrary to the others, it feels like you have to force the interpretations to much to get to this conclusion. This are my thoughts on this. I would appreciate the response of Prager University, or some studious christian or even a respectful non-theist on this topic.

I'm unsure if that's the exact term in english, as it's not my native language. What it means essentially is that in a shame culture, you avoid shame, i.e. you avoid being caught lying much more than you avoid lying in general. In a guilt culture you avoid lying in general, because it is primarily guilt that you avoid.

      @BrianSu 10 років тому

      Joseph Ang You've just proven my point. "people are OK with that". We are not meant to be of this world and to please men. The right question to ask is whether it's pleasing to God. It doesn't matter whether it's pleasing to men.

    • @BrianSu
      @BrianSu 10 років тому

      ***** your question is fundamentally wrong. Christianity teaches not to ask 'what's wrong' for men would easily justify their actions. We are taught that we are individually accountable to God to be judged for each of our actions, therefore rather than asking that question, we inspect each action and ask whether it pleases God. With that in mind, the question to ask is whether those actions are glorifying and pleasing to God and whether we're giving our best to Him by living full of carnal satisfaction.

    • @BrianSu
      @BrianSu 10 років тому

      ***** I believe I have already answered your query in my previous comment. Once again, your question is wrong. Secondly it's not for us to judge whether he's glorifying God with his actions because God will judge each of us individually so he'll have to answer for himself. If you want my opinion it's simple, excessive wealth isn't necessary to sustain life. His not living a simple life, but rather living comfortably while others suffer and die from the lack of access to basic needs. This isn't what the bible teaches Christians to do.

    • @BrianSu
      @BrianSu 10 років тому

      ***** OK but you don't need me to answer these things. When faced with a situation, just remember to ask what does God say? and what does the bible say? Those are far more important than whatever I written here.

      Martin Kortner Appearently you are blind to my words: "For all I know"
      No of course I'm not saying that you did this litterally, my point is, that anyone can change a wikipedia page. And if there were enough admins to check all of the text litterally, Wikipedia could just as well not be an open encyclopedia, because you have enough people to create the pages anyway.
      So don't be so ignorant. All I'm saying is that I'm a Christian. And if I compare Allah's features with God's, I come to the conclusion that they are definitly NOT the same.
      They may have a similar origin, or the word "allah" may just have the same meaning as the word "god", but those are no reason they are the same.

    • @Maartimer
      @Maartimer 9 років тому +1

      Hilko Jongsma I used Wikipedia as a source because it's a well known facts that the abrahamic gods share an origin in the stories of Abraham. I didn't think people here would be perky enough to want to go through heavy academic texts on the matter, so I listed an easy-to-understand source with citations for those who wanted to look into it further.
      I'm not sure what you indicate I'm ignorant about. If you could educate me on that, I'd really appreciate it :)
      As for if they are the same, well, even many of the same faith don't even have the same view of the concept of a god, so you're right, to say they're exactly the same would indeed be wrong. But yes, they do have the same origins. Kind of like how the character of Santa Claus, who originated from the stories of Saint Nicholas has spread to have countless different stories attached to him. For example, the popular American version, Santa Claus, is the same character as the Dutch Sinterklaas in origin, but they have very different mythology connected to them. Even among Americans and people from the Netherlands people have different views on these characters.
      The Christian god and the god of Islam are connected in a very similar way. They both share an origin as the Abrahamic god, but they have diverted into having different mythologies connected to them. As for what features they share and which ones they don't, it depends entierly on which parts of the texts you look at. As a Christian I'm sure you're also well aware that the god of the bible changes throughout the various books, with features ranging from cruel and unforgiving, requesting slaughter of innocent mothers and children, to warm and loving, asking that we help the poor and the needy. The god of the Quran is much the same, with mixed messages that you can understand however you want, depending on where in the texts you look and how you choose to interpret it.
      Your interpretation of the god described in the bible differs a lot from the interpretation others of the christian faith have, and so that blurs the line between whether you can call it the same or not even more.

    This is a very good video to help explain to people what it actually means to “take” or “misuse” God’s name in vain or in “a worthless way.” Though, I’ve always been curious as to why people think that the word “god” is his actual personal name. ‘God’ is a designation or title that can apply to other gods or even to men as the Bible itself shows. That commandment says not to take his “name” in vain rather than his title or position. So it’s the reputation it carries with it. Not sure if “guiltless” means “unforgivable” though unless that’s solely a Jewish perspective. Jesus taught the sin that is held as unforgivable is blasphemy against God’s Holy Spirit, though only God can ultimately decide what he constitutes as someone blaspheming against his Holy Spirit. Though, Leviticus 24:10-16 does show a form of blasphemy such as “cursing god.” Another example of what this can entail is what the religious leaders of Jesus’ day did when they blasphemed against god’s Holy Spirit. Jesus performed works that were undeniably god’s Holy Spirit operating on him so as to identify him as the Messiah the Jews had long been waiting for but they (the Pharisees and Saducees and those of like mind) refused to believe it was God’s Holy Spirit and instead told everyone that Jesus was able to do the works he did only by the “power of Beelzabub, the ruler of the demons” and not the power of god (Matthew 12:22-32) - even going so far as to say Jesus himself was Demon-possessed as John 10:19-21 says.

      Viralerzzz Would you prefer to be refered to as "Another Guy on the Computer" or as "Viralerzzz"? ...the title "God" in this country, 'USA,' has become subjective to everyone that worships "God" in their own way. Ask a Muslim, he'll be glad to tell you who "God" is; ask a Hindu, he too will tell you who "God" is; ask a New Ager, he'll tell you "It doesn't matter who "God" is, because he goes by all names; He's the same "God" that everyone else worships." So do want to worship a specific "God" or the conglomeration and morass of the multitude of names of "God"?

      There is one Elohim, (God,) and His name is YHWH; He has one Messiah, (Savior) His name is YHSHWH.

    I'm glad to her this interpretation. I've always believed this commandment to be not so much against not swearing but against using the idea of God for you own self-serving purposes (Muhammad... cough... cough...)

    We need to also understand what "evil" is, as defined by Scripture. So many people believe that "evil" is the REALLY bad stuff. It's not just that.

    COMMANDMENTS 2015
    1. You shall never relinquish your critical thinking in favor of a conceptual entity the existence of which you cannot validate.
    (We must all recognize the fact that today, religion is the most serious impediment to any sensible management of the worlds peoples. Religion and belief in conceptual entities, divides humans into competing groups that will invariably argue, fight and kill each other's children over these unfounded beliefs. This has to stop as should the "polite tolerance" of totally implausible religious claims. It is time for us all to think. To think rationally; to think for ourselves. We must have the honesty, integrity and courage to admit when we do not know the answer and that the answers will not be found on our knees with our eyes closed.)
    2. You shall never elevate your cause above your humanity.
    (Humans can be moral without a belief in a conceptual entity. Develop your empathy.)
    3. You shall stop the practice of genital mutilation of your young for religious reasons and the presentation to them, of implausible religious claims, as absolute truth.
    (Hide your face and weep if you dare to harm a child.)
    4. You shall not tolerate cruelty or the subjugation and mistreatment of people. (Women in particular have had an inferior status based upon ancient religious text.)
    5. You shall honor your father and your mother.
    6. You shall not murder.
    7. You shall not have sex irresponsibly, without consideration of it's consequences or without empathy and consideration for others and you will always insist upon safe sex practices.
    8. You shall not steal and cannot escape judgment if you rob people with a false prospectus rather than with a weapon, nor will you "rip people off" in the name of religion.
    9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
    10. You shall not covet. (You shall learn to control your envy.)
    11. You shall not condemn people on the basis of their ethnicity or their color but you should rigorously question their unfounded beliefs. (Contemplation is acceptable, unprovable assertions are not.)
    12. You shall not condemn people for their inborn non-violent nature.
    (Why would God create so many homosexuals only in order to torture and destroy them?)
    13. You shall not use people as private property, as owned, or as slaves.
    14. You shall accept responsibility for what you do and shall not defer such to a conceptual entity, the existence of which we cannot validate. (Scapegoating, or having someone else die for your sin is not moral.)
    15. You shall rigorously pursue a verifiable truth, develop your empathy and have respect.
    (Be aware that you, too, are an animal, and dependent upon the web of nature. Think and act accordingly.)
    16. You shall strongly oppose all and any efforts to incorporate religion into government or the military, shall insist on the separation of Church and State and guard against religious literalism.
    17. You shall wear clothes for protection, fashion or humor but not as a propitiation to a conceptual entity, the existence of which we cannot validate.
    18. You shall refrain from dragging inappropriate, unverifiable and meaningless beliefs and rituals from the past, into the present and shall recognize that cultism is a damaging and corrosive pursuit.
    (Human beliefs and strange rituals are learned, they are not part of human DNA. It is time to understand that we can all get along if properly educated.)
    19. You shall not present religious pseudoscience as education or as literal and will accept that we are mortal beings with finite lives, whose purpose is for us to collectively and individually determine.
    20. Governments should discontinue tax exemption for religion and stop the support and perpetuation of implausible religious claims that cannot be validated. (Belief in a conceptual entity should not absolve you of your obligation to pay for the umbrella of infrastructure and defense under which you enjoy your freedom)

      I don't understand of this concept of "I hate god". Can you real hate a fictional character? I don't hate superman, I hate my old Senior Chief and Lazy ass first class. Superman is more of a "the premise of this character is stupid" more than a hatred. God fits into this category, this mythological character is a stupid premise, I don't it.

  • @lisamontoya8615

    We are punished by our sins not for our sins. We don't need others to point out our salvation or non salvation.
    Example: a lady at church you hardly know says to you God told me to tell you, you are, have, could , would , should be aware of this or that ... This is not only a form of witchcraft (aka) manipulation.
    This example is also about taking God's name in vain because the lady is using God's name to justify her personal reasons for judging, interfering or trying to control others yet saying God wants you to know, be aware, take heed, believe... ext. We have a personal relationship with God we don't need others opinions or approval.

      +Justin George Repentance through Jesus Christ. Accept Christ as your savior and your sins will be washed clean. Repent for what you have done, and be honest with God (it's not like he can't see what you've done).

      Justin George To answer your question with a question: Did Christ die for all sins? The answer to that one is yes, as long as you are sincere in your repentance, it doesn't matter if it's your first, second, fifth, tenth time or more. God's not expecting perfection, just that you try to avoid temptation, and come ask forgiveness when you fall. We all stumble Justin, believe me, I should know.

    My understanding is bearing false witness on God. And is from my perspective, the most common reason given for peoples rejection of God. The miss representation of God has caused great harm, and still happens today.

    We are not held guiltless for the sins we commit, for we are in fact guilty. But being guilty of sin does not mean we can't be forgiven. All sins can be forgiven unless it is the sin of impenitence which is the denial of God throughout all one's life including the point of death. It is saying a final "no" to God before you die which tells Him that you don't want to be with him in paradise. Other than that, God tells us that all sins can be forgiven if you repent and are sorry.

      And one key thing about repentance that most people might overlook: Repentance is not a simple "Oh, yeah, sorry 'bout that." It goes a lot deeper. From my understanding, repentance is an admittance and recognition of all guilt, and a true sorrow at the wrongs committed. It always gets to me when people say that it's really simple, when honestly admitting to the part of one's self that is really nasty and wrong but also integral to one's being is a very difficult thing to do, but still a very necessary thing.

    The Bible says: Separation from God is sin. Out of that separation comes all kinds of evil.
    When people go against God's Character they are essentially becoming their own god.

    Mr. Prager, I really enjoy your videos. I particularly enjoy your reasonable approach to Scripture and conservatism. According to your videos we do disagree on certain doctrines of Scripture, but I love and admire your stand for morality. I do wish for your response concerning your last statement in this video. I am curious of how you would reconcile "God will not forgive you if you take his name in vain." with the conversion of Saul of Tarsus in Acts 9. Truly Saul committed great evil in the name, Jehovah, not knowing that He is Christ?

    According to the Nicene Creed, the Holy Spirit is "the Lord, the giver of life." If the Holy Spirit gives life, is it possible since life is received at conception, the alteration of human DNA, since it passes down through it's descendants, it's the unforgivable sin, since you are irreparably altering the nature of human beings?
