- As Jess communicates with Matt and Becker, a young girl named Beth is unaware of the great danger she is in when a Therocephalian enters the gymnasium she is sitting in. It's a race against time for Connor to get all of the school doors unlocked, and for Matt and Becker to save the girl. This Primeval Clip is taken from Primeval: Series 4 - Episode 4 (2011).

this scene was made just to show us that primeval is not scared of showing the sad fact that creatures dont care if u are a girl or a boy...a kid or an adult...

I think this was a major reality check for the team, the fact that people do die.
I wasn't the biggest fan of season 4. But this scene... I really didn't expect it would go so dark.
Yeah I only watch it to see if Danny, Conner and Abby got back home really but when I found out that Conner and Abby we’re together I kept watching it. To be fair I thought series 4 and 5 were surprisingly good in my opinion.
I personally think that season 2 wasn't the best cause I swear half the dialog was: Claudia Brown and there was no plot other than Stephens death

This scene was the reason why I fell in love with Primeval. I had never heard about the show before but I was sick at home and decided to watch it because nothing else was on. When this scene came I rolled my eyes. I thought that of course our heroes will rescue the girl in time especially since she is a kid.
But then she dies.
I was shocked. That was so unexpected that I couldn't stop thinking about this show and decided to watch more. It is still one of my all time favorite tv shows.
Holy shit that was grim. Easily the darkest moment of the show.
This was dark for Primeval.
Cant wait to see the spino and trex scenes in 1080p HD! This scene was good too! Adds a sense of suspense and eariness.
Shakes me to this day. I never imagined the show would go this far......
and yes..the good guys don't always win in the series, it's sad but a reality
The creature wasn't impressive or threatening but this scene is really good because it shows that these creatures don't care what you are as long as you have meat on you
Well, if I suddenly came across something that looked like a saber toothed cross between a pygmy hippo, a badger, and a leopard gecko, I’d find it pretty threatening and scary indeed.
1. Why would you stay in a creepy gym like that? Alone? I mean I'm certainly not the bravest of people but being in there would scare me shitless, even without the creature.
2. I wish more of the episodes were as dark as this.
To answer your first question: the in-universe explanation is that maybe this is her safe space and being there for so long she’s use to how dark it is. Out-universe explanation is simple: to make the scene more suspenseful and horrifying with its dreary cinematography.
Even then, your question is weird. You’re saying that because YOU wouldn’t go to a gym like that means that no else should be that brave enough or rational enough to go into a creepy gym? That’s a weird way of thinking, isn’t it.
To answer your second question: they tried doing that with the American version Primeval New World but the show was criticised for its darker and more adult themes.
I know it was dark for the show to kill a teenager but it made the episode.

I just found out myself that this show was made by Tim Haines. The creator of Walking with Dinosaurs.
Even thought she was stuck up and a bit of a bitch, I still felt this sad to sit through. This was heartbreaking. She was just a kid!

Notice how Matt got mad there by beating the hell of the creature after it kill that girl. I think I would react the same way if I was there.
Funny that less than a minute of this can be more suspenseful and scary than current dr who's attempts
probably one of the most kinda fucked scenes in the show. Yeah, just shit. This was up there with the moment Connor's m8 Tom dies as just a truly sad death of an innocent, made worse for it being a kid in a school. Nature doesnt care, but yeah still tragic.
Also, don't forget, I think Jess is supposed to be 19. Bloody harrowing scene from what is a pretty campy show. Stuff like this makes Primeval a really hidden gem.

This episode made me sad I was hoping it would turn out like a Seth Rogen film (coincidentally referenced in this episode) where the nerd gets the girl if the kid who liked her had saved her despite her dismissiveness he didn’t upload the cute embarrassing dancing video of her like planned out of respect 😢

With a venomous bite in this series, although it’s now debatable whether the species featured here actually produced venom in real life.
