Great update and public service to those that have those crash bars. I also set my 13" legends on the Road Glide Special at 12 1/4 sag. I did so just for the times when I may have more on the bike that just me on trips or day trips. Thanks for sharing and ride safe.
That would seem to be an engineering flaw of the bars, this should not happen no matter what the rear shocks were set too. Not enough R&D went into the design. Great informative video.👍
Dude thank you so much for this video. I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out what I have been bottoming out on after installing a set of super shox. I'm glad the issue isn't exactly my shocks, but annoyed I have to take off my crash bar and grind it down. Setting up shocks at a stiffer setting kinda defeats the purpose of having premium shocks.
Yep.... Looks like its still not fixed.... I was one of the 1st to run those bars. At the time the lower mount tab was squared off and I was worried at 1st look on install. I had 13" Progressives at the time. It hit same place hard 1st ride. I called them out on it and told them that square lower tab is no good. I asked them for either another set and I told them to round off that mount tab flush with the bar or do it to my set and repowder coat. Im local in So Cal so I showed up in person and told them exactly how I wanted it fixed. They modified a new set and powdercoated them. Supposedly they were going to make all sets rounded off for the future sets. Your sag isnt the issue, its a clearance issue and youll always have the issue. You will always have the issue unless you run longer shocks. Even with the tabs rounded I still had issues on bottoming with the 13" Progressives. Mine is a performance build and I ride it hard. Im now running 14" Ohlins on my bagger, with same bars all these years and thats the only way youre going to alleviate 100%.
@@FLYANDRIDE15 Hmm maybe it was the Progressives, but with them dialed in 100% the swingarm would still hit even the rounded lower tabs when I bottomed riding hard, it was dangerous. Personally I'd make 100% sure by pulling the springs, dropping it down and see if it still hits fully bottomed. You shouldn't have to have preload jacked up so high to avoid bottoming and lose both travel and usable suspension to avoid contact, which you might be doing to avoid contact.
I have same bars and run 13in suspension technologies rt shocks. I have not had a issue with the swing arm hitting. I know 12 in shocks set too soft will hit also lowered bikes will hit. They are making a 2.0 so lowered bikes can use them.
Are the Santoro crash bar mounting that much different from a stock crash bar? I have ohlins rear shocks and they need to be adjusted properly when my wife rides with me so was it just a matter of a mis adjusted shock and not the bars? I guess I don't understand what the root cause was!! Peace!!
I just installed these bars on my RG CVO. The same thing happened, where the bars hit the swing arm. I have Ohlins suspension and never ride with a passenger. I was wondering if the bars ever hit the swingarm again, now that you've adjusted your suspension (I'm assuming you made your shocks stiffer). Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
I love the way those bars look but I just see myself smashing my shins and what not on them all the time. That seems like a pretty big drop on the sag. Maybe firm up the rebound overall?
Good afternoon F&R we spoke yesterday and I just watched the video … I haven’t taken the bike out for a ride yet after I installed them and I run Legends and the sag is set to my weight , im not sure where the bar would hit the swing arm… is it the bolt that hits because the crash bar is mounted outside the frame?

Great info. I don’t have the guards, but I set the sag as soon as I had Wilbers fitted to both mine and my wife’s bikes. ✌️
Thank you! Wilber may be next for me.
Great video! I had an issue with my 13’ shocks bottoming out on my pipes
Thx 🤙
I just installed these last night! Great to freaking know! Thanks brother!
Awesome! 🤙

Glad I could help. Yeah man, I love the look of these bars but bummer they have to be grinded down. If you do, should resolve your issue though
Cool that you got that sorted out. Nothing worse than being on a ride thinking your bike is messed up.
Yeah man! Worst feeling! 😂 how’s that new ride?!
@@FLYANDRIDE15 Like McDonalds, I’m lovin it! 🤣

Looking at santoro vs sbc the sbc actually has a stepped bracket. Looks like it pulls the bar out of the way. Good thing i came across this video.
@@johnromerojr4125 thx for watching. Not sure if Santoro has addressed but definitely requires some manual adjustments
Love mine etc for a wear mark on one of my saddle bags
I love them as well 🤙
That's really cool and awesome crash bar to your bike bro. Keep it up and more vidz to come. RIDE SAFE ALWAYS brother 🙏☝️😊💯

Good advice. I just installed the SE Ohlins on mine and Im in the sag adjustment process also…
Thanks!
Excellent content as always, waiting on some content of a big bore kit and your feedback

Good information! I’d like to find some bag guards that work on full stretch bags. And I like. I’m subbed
Thank you and welcome! I did remedy this issue with most recent suspension install I just completed. 🤙
Time to install the Wilbers LDC Nivomat self-leveling shocks and you never have to set the sag again. Best upgrade I did to my 2020 CVO Street Glide.
I’ve heard good things about the Wilbers, need to give it more thought for sure 🤙

@@FLYANDRIDE15 that's good
Great vid. Didn't even think of the 2-up aspect impacting/hitting the swing arm. How heavy is that tour pack?
The issue is not the tour pack, it’s my heavy a$$ 😂
@@FLYANDRIDE15 😂, but seriously are those tour packs heavy?
@@SJBagger not at all bro. I’d have to look at specs but the chopped which is what I have is not heavy in my opinion.

Root cause is the way these are engineered, you have to have the suspension exactly Aligned to bother riders if not, it bottoms out.

Two things. One, I changed to Wilbur’s suspension and two, I filed down the lip that was touching. Would recommend you do both.
@@FLYANDRIDE15 Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking the same thing. Adjust the suspension and file down the lip. Thanks again.
I love the way those bars look but I just see myself smashing my shins and what not on them all the time. That seems like a pretty big drop on the sag. Maybe firm up the rebound overall?
I tried the rebound and didn’t work. Changing the sag worked so good now. Thx 🤙
If you installed the bars you should have noticed the clearance was reduced an thought to increase the adjustment on your shocks to compensate
That was done and still doesn’t work.
I have the same problem … with 13’’ Legend Revo A
Once I changed to Wilbur’s no more!
Thanks for the info, glad was figured out!

I should have listened 😆

not the bars fault any time you have a passenger should set your sag
It was happening without passenger as well. More pronounced with passenger
I wonder if riding with stock shocks would cause same problem/ or only aftermarket like ohlins etc.. hmmm
Stock would be worse
Thanks for the info sir great video.

With the ST , it wouldn't be a problem. Nice bike tho.

Is that rear shock inverted?
Nope

@@JayJay-nm9vm 💯🤙
I don’t know how this is Santoro Fabworx fault. Your sag wasn’t adjusted correctly.
That’s inaccurate. Sag was adjusted by a professional and despite that, needed to be altered
Sounds like you really never enjoyed the shocks till now
Still enjoyed the ride even if it’s a bit stiffer
I have never in my life heard it called riding with a pillion wtf why not just say passenger 😂😂😂
😂
That’s Bullshit, Al! have you reached out to the manufacturer?
I adjusted the sag and it it’s no longer bottoming out. I actually really like the bars just wish I knew to check sag prior
Harley parts overpriced BUT engineered to fit and work. Stay with factory parts to avoid catastrophic failures.
