Where in the rules does it say that the purple/unique dinosaurs create barriers? (around 11:40) I can't find that anywhere in the rules. In my opinion the field is still considered one big open area and your dinosaurs would escape.
Do you not need to shuffle the AI's deck, or did you cut that out? (Or did I just miss your shuffling?) I have found Automata overly challenging in a few games I own, so I'll likely try this as written the first few times and then try your house rules if that seems overly punishing.
I have a UA-cam up of me winning solo this game, but it was pretty much a fluke, and it was with one of the easier AIs. (The Contractor is an absolute joke.) I had to have ideal rolls to pull off double private contract inorder to win by 1 point. I agree human player should start 1st player, and I additionally recommend a variant where you flip face up the action cards the AI did not put into its 4 (or 5) card deck for the round. This lets the player anticipate and plan around the incoming "bad stuff" while still leaving some luck/variation on the ordering of the AI actions. The decisions get crunchier and the game gets easier, but only in proportion to how well you react to the new information.
Your house rule makes totally sense.
Private contracts are a way to fulfill 2 contracts with one action, which is pretty big when actions are so limited. They should not be ignored.
AI only getting 1 contract is huge! Nice play Ryan.
The house rules makes sense. I rage wuited cuz ai had 40ish points and I had none. It was insane
Your two red dinosaurs could breed to give you 4 additional points!!
Picking the science card for ai is meant to be highest points.
This solo mode def seems overpowered! But maybe it’s intended to simulate a 3-4 player game? Just a thought…that’s a pretty generous take tho haha
All of the various AI bots are very difficult to beat. It is what it is I guess.

It's not in the rules, it's the text on that specific unique dinosaurs card. Each purple dinosaur has a unique ability.

Yes, you shuffle the AI deck, I just cut out the set up between rounds.

I agree. This game definitley gets better with a few house rules when playing solo.
