Great tips. 100percent on the tyre pressure and gauge ...WP is a great track for driver/rider as it's so technical for competitors and great all round viewing for us punters
I only ever use BP Ultimate.. I don't know how true it is but I heard BP fuel is actually refined to 98 octane where as most other fuels are not and have octane booster added to achieve the 98?
G'day mate, yes quality fuel is one of the easiest things you can do. We only use BP ultimate and on occasion Shell. Have had too many dramas with the other brands and outlets - even on their supposed 98 blend.......
G'day James, yes we are part of the Penrite brand ambassador program and we have a number of arrangements with memorabilia merchandisers. We are always open to discussions with new sponsors as well.
Thanks for another awsome segment Suspension is critical Which suspension (if someone was keeping their struts) would you recommend, including sway bars and or adjustable end links
G'day mate and thanks for watching. When you say, keeping your struts, I assume you don't want to go with a new coilover setup? They are the best suspension mod as they are adjustable and offer high levels of performance. If you want to keep your struts, one of the best mods is to replace the oem shock absorbers with new ones (they require replacement over time) and fit stiffer springs. Thicker sway bars help reduce body roll and one of the most underrated suspension mods is to ensure all your bushes are working effectively and replace them with new ones. Finally, a wheel alignment with some negative camber is my last recommendation- try 1-2 degrees of negative camber but remember you will start to wear your tyres on the inside shoulder in the pursuit of performance!
The best honest advice about the ls (for me anyway). My ls is cammed, otr, maf tuned, lifters, dyno. But it pug roots in and around town and gets a bit of a jerk on highways in 6th. Would a hsv gear set (diff) be better for this. Its a daily driver with the odd track day? Advice only if course.
G'day Rhys, our VF pig roots all the time. A set of diff gears means the engine will rev higher at slower speeds and hopefully you can reduce the rooting. Joys of owning a lumpy cam!
G'day David, we still have the original clutch in the VE but we have fitted a Mantic ceramic clutch to the VF. We can't believe how well the stock clutch in the VE is going!
I have a VF Calais V, with the std 2.9 diff. Without doing a cam upgrade, just headers, hi flow cats & a 3" system, would a 3.45 ratio suffice for road driving only?
The VE V8 auto does have a pretty short first gear, just over 4:1 but a bit of gearing will make a big difference. The standard tune doesn't hold first gear for very long anyway with the 2.9:1 diff ratio.
Thanks mate. For regular driving and the odd track day, there is nothing wrong with the wet sump, providing you have heaps of oil and some of the mods I outlined. For total dedicated race car, consider a dry sump.
I've heard the L77 comes out with a high-flow oil pump standard, and if you do a DOD Delete, and don't do a power upgrade, CAM etc you need to replace it with a std one or else it will blow out your valves and you will burn oil like in a LS1. Not sure if this is 100% though.
Melling make a high pressure, standard volume pump 10295 that is designed for AFM systems or a low volume, standard pressure pump 10294 or you can use the high volume, high pressure pump 10296. Need to speak to your engine builder about your application.
@@dazsmlemk1119 ah nice one and good choice of gears. We would have liked to fit 3.7s to the ute like our VF, might look at that in the future. Have you taken your VE SS to the track?
@@ClunieGarage I haven't personally but I bought the ute off of Gary Baxter, it was one of the 4 Holden precision driving teams Utes still in it's wrap from qld royal show in 2018. Needless to say she's got some issues that still need addressing, has a few lights and warnings going on. But once she's all sorted and I get a cam and tune I'll deffinately be taking it for some hot laps and maybe even a drift or 2 on the track. Needless to say I love the thing haha she's a beast
G'day mate, we haven't had to do ours but you should be able to. Recommend access to a hoist though. Do u need to change sump gasket and or inspect bottom end?
G'day Angry, maybe check with mum first before you remove the spare. Also, I don't think she will appreciate you gutting the interior and removing the rear seats either! 🤪🤣
Great tips on the oil and fuel systems. Very underrated mods. Everyone goes on about turbos, exhausts etc without doing the basics. Bravo gents.
Thanks Pedro, we thought we would do a different style of top 5 list today.
That intro clip blasting past the four banger never gets old...
Too true Tom. I was watching some old Days of Thunder clips on UA-cam the other day and was thinking about you being homesick!
Love the channel. Big on handy info low on useless BS.
Thanks Martin!

never saw the inside of a sump before - interesting
G'day Sonia, yes they are quite interesting. Normally filled with boiling hot oil though and no-one gets to see inside them!
Again more amazing content thank you learning a lot from you men you do you get any Sponsors

Hey clunie, I’ve got a vf redline ls3, and just booked it in for a 2300harrop blower and cam upgrade. Super keen hopefully she’ll make 600whp+.
G'day William, how awesome and congratulations. You will have a blast with the grunt!

Great vid got a really good Auto Meter tyre guage/deflator from Amazon us for $50
G'day Bush, nice work and keep an eye on your air pressures with that flash gauge! Nice one.
Where can i find the billet pick up?
And will the all the oil mods work together?
I have a VF Calais V, with the std 2.9 diff. Without doing a cam upgrade, just headers, hi flow cats & a 3" system, would a 3.45 ratio suffice for road driving only?
If you want a fairly aggressive cam you will need some gearing and a hi stall converter to make it all work.
@@angry9901 Not touching the cam. Was going to, but heard way too many nightmare stories. Also, trying to keep it subtle as it's a Calais not SS
Sorry, misread cam upgrade. For no upgrade any shorter gears will wake the Calais up.

What fuel system is going in the VF? Are you going E85 at same time?
G'day Gary, we will share the specs and do a full review of the fuel system when it arrives from the US. We will be sticking to 98 RON at this stage.

Mate how do you go with holden diffs on the track? Have you used the Eaton Trutrac?
G'day mate, we have a Trutrac fitted to the VE ute and a Wavetrac fitted to the VF. Have broken a lot of Holden diffs in the past!!
