@@serbia991 well, even if it's mandatory or in Serbian culture/law for young men to join the military, they are still giving up their lives and everything to serve regardless of the reason so they should be thanked and respected for what they do... Even if it's kinda sketchy and questionable their actions, like Charles said we should blame the government not the soldiers since they're just following orders...

Dear Charles. You have no idea how glad I am that you have been trying for so many years to present my country in the best light. We have been fighting against prejudices for so many years. The whole world looks at us strangely, reproachfully. They don't know how much suffering we have survived. One small, stubborn country, which no one will ever bow to. Like every nation, we have bad people. I see how you are fighting hard to present us as a silly, cordial and good people. Many times we did not get a visa for America because we are Serbs. They represent us as war criminals. Thank you on behalf of your people, and I would like you to put a Serbian translation on There are many people who do not understand English and want to follow and watch you. Best regards

@@ilovesrbija why do you think we sent all the generals to Hague? A court to which USA does not allow it's solders to be prosecuted ? It is because of pressure, bombs, sanctions, instability which can happen again if some wdc burocracy decides to do so, so now we try to comply with foreign powers and not to collide as it happened in the 90es. And at the same time you can not celebrate people who were targeted by NATO

    •  3 роки тому +3

@@ilovesrbija Thank you, Charles. In Serbian history, one thing about veterans is always repeated, after the war veterans are neglected, not respected at all, they are on the margins of social life, they were and are so many wounded and invalid veterans with no income at all, with no or very small social help from the government. I've seen so many appeal for help for the wounded or ill ex-soldiers, people gather funds via text messages or from donations from good people. It seems the government is forgotten us or embarrassed of these people. Americans have a nice tradition to respect their veterans, remembering those who fell for their country. So, I respect the American people, they know how to thank their soldiers.

    •  3 роки тому +3

@@justiceiscomingsoon You missing the point, the point is that most of the common people in Serbia don't really care about veterans. my Dad's first cousin died as American pilot in Asia during WW2. He survived his plane downing during Hong Kong raid on Japanese and he took his buddie on his back, he was saved by the Chinese and was back after 2 months to his base in India. He died the next year at the age of 22. Today it is not popular to be Serbian in USA even the children bully and mock my little cousins, and their parents settled in USA 20 years ago. Being of Serbian last and first name, religion even born in USA is not good at the moment even kids in school have problems. Can you imagine learning fake history from US books about how bad Serbs are or were . Not mentioning 1 million refugees (from Krajina, RS, Kosovo) who were thrown out of their homes at the gun point while they were bombed by Croat airplanes which would not happen if Serbia was not threatened by NATO not to protect peasants in Krajina, RS in 1995 or Kosovo in 1999 when 200.000 people had to flee

3:08 Dear Charles, you are completely right about treatment of serbian veterans by the institutions. Nowdays it's a bit better, but until recently serbian veterans were treated pretty much like aggressors in their own country. American soldier is a hero even when he protects interests of the USA (whatever that implies) across the world, thousands miles from home. But serbian soldier is an "unpleasant appearance" even on his own ground. That kind of politics established after '99. NATO aggression on FRY. After that military was destroyed, NATO politics and standards took over; NGOs and media introduced anti-serbian and anti-military propaganda narrative in public discourse vilifying any serbian national interest; The Hague Tribunal played and still plays it's own role until these days. Bottom line: if you are small, but freedom-loving - it's the deadliest combination.

@@shyryTsr2k Socialism didn't tear us apart. It was the Undemocratic States of America that tore our country apart. For them, only the neoliberals and fascist dictators deserve to be democratically elected. If the people democratically elect a socialist, they do a coup. And that's not what democratic countries should do. The best example is Chile, when the democratically elected president and a socialist Salvador Allende was overthrown and replaced with a fascist dictator Augusto Pinochet, in 1973.

Maybe it is my eyes, I do need them checked, but we still are in lockdown here in Ontario Canada, so we can't go or do anything. I hope all is going excellent with your new venture and all else. Veterans haven't always been respected in the US. After WWII there was Korea. No clear cut winner but a truce in the 50s that still holds today. Then there was Vietnam. Once again no clear cut winner just everybody got tired. Korea was a big letdown. But Vietnam was the worst. Returning vets were spat on in airports and for years people refused to admit they were in Vietnam. Healing takes time but thankfully in the US those days are over. Serbia will catch up.
My best friend in Serbia fought in Sarajevo. He won't start the conversation of his exploits but he doesn't shy away from talking abut them either. Met him working in Nigeria around 2003.
