    Ahhhh😌 That sound just makes my heart happy💗 It just takes me back over 35 years when I first got to work a little with one of these! 💘

    Great sound! The early D7s, from the 1T through the 47A and 48A D7Es, ran the same basic engine. It was a four-cylinder version of the big six that powered the 2U and 14A D8s. As Albert mentions, Cat added turbochargers during the production of the 17A series. All of the turbo 4-banger 7s had this distinctive exhaust tone. We logged with them in the woods in Southern Oregon, and you could hear them for miles. Truly,one of the best-sounding engines on earth. The 94N D7F used the Cat 3306 for power. They were easier to service, but were thousands of pounds lighter in the front end than the earlier D7 models. The F-models just didn't have the punch, but were still a pleasure to run. Those were some of the happiest days of my life!

    Maybe old but these old 7s have lots of pushing power. There first gear is faster than d6d in second ! Just don't make the mistake double blocking! The blade winch will snap your 5/8 or 1/2 inch cable in the blink of in eye! You will learn 75ft of cable is a real problem and pain to change by yourself ! Still love these old cable dozers with direct drive!

    I had two 17A turbo D7D's and one D7F all with stick shift transmissions. The D7F would really push a lot more than the D7D's. They were three great machines. The stick machines would outpush the newer machines going up steep hills.

      @@bobbyarnold3536 It should be in the service book for the D7 -C or D 17A seres turbo or natural the wiring is the same the only diff. on the later 17As 1959 or 60 they had a in seat start option, a control tower on the front left floor board that housed the starting controls gas shut off and push button starter and and all the controls to engage the diesel ,some had the glow plug switch.also , they have long rods that go to the carb for throttle and choke control the glass pony gas bowl is mounted inside the tower with a knob to shut it of from the seat . The 17As with the in seat start are very rare. On the 1961 D7E 47A or 48A the in seat start controls for the pony are on the Regular Dash . I have one of each. 1960 D7D w in seat start with cable control # 25 Winch and a 1961 D7E hydraulic blade with the quick drop valves on top of the massive lift pistons to drop the blade fast like a cable control blade. That was because customers complained that the early Hydraulic blade option on the 3Ts and 17As went down to slow. Completely Diff. machines but they both have the big Bore 4. and direct drive trans. The Caterpillar Tractor Co. "Around the Clock Around The World". Never mind Matsu , Beesheee and Kamo-Kazzi'.

    Sounded like it needed to be throttled up a bit in some parts.

      @henryratajczak3071 3 роки тому

      That 4 cylinder engine was wide open. It idled at 500 RPM full throttle was around 1150--1200 RPM
      My D-E-48A will still out work the new "CAT" tin cans. Plus it's ALL PAID FOR !!!
