Definitely the right choice there, the new style Safari snorkels look mint on a GQ. There's two things I did differently when I fitted the same snorkel to my GQ. With the holesaw, I used a much longer pilot drill in the holesaw, which was long enough to go through the guard and into the inner guard template/bracket Safari gives you. That got the holesaw lined up spot on to where the safari template wanted the hole, it also prevented the holesaw from eating the guard or wandering off target if it binds up. The other thing is that I used blind nutserts in the pillar instead of those plastic clips. They're like your regular nutserts, but have a blanked back end, so even if water does travel down the threads, it can't go anywhere. Keep up the good work boys.
Hi Dan, have you thought about fitting an external colour matched sun visor over the windscreen, I think that would just set it off fantastic mate. Seeya Rob
Not sure there is another fella on UA-cam that loves their car as much as Dan loves his Patrol. Love watching you guys from Canada and never miss an episode
Good one gents. The Safari V-Spec snorkel is a great choice. I too prefer it over tube designs for the same reasons you mentioned. IMO the tubes looks too much DIY, while the Safari is shaped to follow the lines of the 4WD. Your true friendship is coming across through this video. It's great to watch. 👍
love the snorkel choice and the OCD involved in drilling the holes, I probably would not have been game enough myself so good on you Dan the man. a perfect job as usual.
Yet again another great vid lads! Just a suggestion, but would love to see a bit of a rundown on the whole cost of Liam's GQ build. Keep up the good work!!
Looks awesome Dan! You've done a great job 👍 I'm a Coachbuilder by trade, my old man is a Panel beater.. The tradesmen that taught me, taught me the very same skills that you have shown in this video. Nice & neat, don't rush it.
Gotta love the internet with people that have all the advice and not actually have any experience (viewers)...great video its always good watching someone else cutting holes in there own cars 😂 many people have the complete wrong idea about raised air intakes (snorkel) and what the purpose is for....basically without doing water proofing measures its just a raised air intake to avoid choking the air box with dust....may wanna silicone every join before doing water....
Very neat job mate. As someone who has done that job to several vehicles I've owned over the years, including my brand new GU in 2000, I know how nervous you must have been. Now, at 69 years, I've learned that snorkels are a waste of effort for most people. Deep water crossings are the ONLY justification for a snorkel. In your case, with a petrol engine, you're gunna have other serious issues if youre in water that deep. If you think you're going to get cooler air , that's a joke. The air isn't going to be any cooler 2 meters above the ground than it is at one meter....and if anything, it'll actually heat up more as it travels down that black plastic duct. John Cadogan did a great video explaining all this.
I agree Dan with what you said about if it was a bush pig on 37s ect then a bonnet entry staino would look the part but for this rig being as tidy as it is you have def made the right choice.
Quality viewing. I thought the subtle background music change in the polish under the Patrol badge scene took the vid to the next level. Congrats to whoever threw that in!
The acid bath thing is a real thing. I was an aircraft structural fitter in the airforce. The vast majority of panels were “ chemically milled”. So around the perimeter and across the panel forming “bays “ they applied a protective tape then used a chemical etching compound to reduce the thickness of the panel. On the F/A 18 Hornet they saved something like 600kg of weight overall. That’s a lot of extra fuel or bullets and bombs 😊
I love the banter between the three of you. Great suff. 👍 I agree, the V-Spec design suits the GQ lines well, and the colour scheme nicely. Nothing against tubies, but I'm personally not a fan. Another enjoyable watch. Great editing Pat. 👍
Looks great Dan you are so lucky to be not near the salt if I had a absolutely beautiful patrol like yours it would be corroded in a year from all the beach work and sea breeze’s haha
luvin the banter support lads, nicely done. i get it Dan, i am bipolar with ocd. i know i get hectic with certain things n my 5 children luv playing the game with me. its damn funny wen they play the game n we all have a gud time round it. gud to c the lads n ur self doing the same. having said that, watching u drill into the guard n then hole saw the guard i was in a lather of sweat man. well done Dan, looks gud n move on to the next upgrade.
This turned out so damn well! Suits the GQ nicely 👌 Just me but I’d be seriously tempted to re-dye the flares and indicator surrounds to suit the cleanliness of the car and paint. Bowdens own does a killer product for textured plastics
i felt the same when i was putting the snorkel on my NGV. i dont like doing any modifications that cant be undone later so when it came time to do the snorkel, i had to route the piping into the guard, under the headlight and into the engine bay so i wouldnt have to cut into the inner guard. any interior mods such as uhf or switches ect, if i have to mount to anything, its to a replacable panel instead of just screwing into dash.
Oh man I feel your pain. Cutting my Pajero Evolution guard felt terrible but the snorkel is absolutely worth it. Allowed me to do deep crossings on the Old Tele Track and in the High Country without worry and seeing those amazing places is why we own 4wds.
great job Dan.made it look easy, and of course Liam was just the helper you needed 🤣.snorkel looks good and will look trick when u get flares painted black. .Right choice to face the head forward, if u face it backwards u may as well not even have a snorkel.another g great video.👍
Nicelly done Dan. I'm with you on the snorkel, my preference is for a "plastic" snorkel, simpler and cheaper. Of course it helps if you don't think they look bad compared to a staino. Thanks for the content lads. .Cheers. ps: I'm not even going to get into the topic of the reverso ram head...
I felt it in my soul when they line about the template not being right was said. When i fitted my snorkel, the template wasnt scaled properly for print. Im glad all the holes were UNDER the snorkel. Twice as many bolt holes and an entry hole that would make a Staino cry. Definitely made the right choice with a Safari poly snorkel though.
Love the banter. Did the holesaw line up perfectly or was adjustment needed? I myself was wondering about maybe a laser light outlining the hole & maybe using a die grinder, or nibbler? Looks good Dan.......for a Patrol
G’day Dan, as you have said in the past “You don’t care what other people think” about your mods to your vehicle/s. I don’t care that you’ve added a snorkel to your vehicle. When was the last time last time that patrol went through water deep enough to need a snorkel. This show has just become another vehicle modification show. 🤔🍻
A m8 of mine did this, but he didn’t use his original good one. He got one from a scrap yard and cut a hole in it, then spray painted it. He kept on the wall in his shed. I disagree when you said “cutting a hole is easy that getting a scrap one and painting it”. Get a scrap one, scuff it up, rattle can it with your colour and clear coat. 👍🏻 Sorted. If you cut the original one up and paint it down the line, it will never match.
Honestly added value to the car, also rub used engine oil on your outter plastics, then whipe with a clean rag, dust won't stick to it and it'll won't fadeout so quickly
Nice job mate! Mine's been installed in my hilux for over a year and I still haven't got to drilling any holes in the pillar! #ReallyGoodVelcro..🤣 Drivers side next week? 😛
What do you think? Has Dan made the right choice? Let us know your thoughts!!!
Great job Liam, great moral support!!!
Great job Lads 🎉

Yes. I think the factory look suits the car better. Especially for his intended purpose
Finally some common sense and not just fitting an open ended posing s/s down pipe🤦.
The banter and the chats in this video boosted its entertainment factor.

Haha “Anyone who’s ever bought a pot plant from Bunnings has a dual can Ute”
Love watching Dan work. Methodical and cares about the details. None of the “slap it on” attitude the 4x4 has become. Dan, your ride looks mint 👌
love the snorkel choice and the OCD involved in drilling the holes, I probably would not have been game enough myself so good on you Dan the man. a perfect job as usual.
Looks fab and factory. If Dan's happy, we are.
Master craftsman in the house again. Best bloke on the channel. Takes after his grandfather with exceptional skills. Well done big D.
Dan that was executed superbly. It’s alway a pleasure to watch you tackle these projects… 👍👍👍
Yet again another great vid lads! Just a suggestion, but would love to see a bit of a rundown on the whole cost of Liam's GQ build.

Great to see Liam providing emotional support 😂
This young fella continues to impress, love his thought process’s and decision making….Six “P” principle working a treat.

What cool young man, you would be a great teacher of automotive tips/ tricks
Very neat job mate.

Bit late was at race day with my boy so gum boys gum
Not a problem mate , heading up that way in a coupe of weeks!

Looks mint! Definitely the right choice of snorkel, very “period correct” great job mate 👍🏻

Thanks HammerRocks! Means alot mate!

100% right choice looks awesome. That car (and paint) is bloody amazing yeah paint the flares will look even better👍👍

That's it mate!! Definitely worth it!
Man, she is awesome!😍 The cyclone type of the top is better for snorkel.
great job Dan.made it look easy, and of course Liam was just the helper you needed 🤣.snorkel looks good and will look trick when u get flares painted black. .Right choice to face the head forward, if u face it backwards u may as well not even have a snorkel.another g great video.👍
Best option for that GQ for sure 👌 suits the styling for sure.
Dan, excellent job well done looks fantastic
This reminds me of Richard Hammond in Top Gear not wanting to cut bits off his car in Botswana
OLIVER!!!!
I wish i put my staino on with as much care as you did.
Looks awesome mate
Love the banter😂😂 glad you went with the safari and not the staino 👌
Outstanding work as always Dan. Looks great.
It looks great Dan. Great work
Truly awesome Dan beautiful looking car.
Best choice mate. Patrol and snorkel go hand in hand. Great decision👍
Link to the snorkle dan maaattteee, looks absolutely phat, love the content mate
That is an awesome looking Patrol mate.!
I am very proud of you Dan, job well done fella looking clean as
Excellent choice Dan! Looks good!
The Most anticipated Aussie arvos ep! haha
Snorkel definitely matches very well with the car! I rekon a grandpa visor on the front of her would just give it a little bit of character !!
I felt it in my soul when they line about the template not being right was said.

Definitely made the right choice with a Safari poly snorkel though.
Looks mint Dan 👌 great choice! That old girl is getting looked after as it should! 👍
What did u do with the charcoal cannister ive been trying to do the same setup
Love the banter. Did the holesaw line up perfectly or was adjustment needed? I myself was wondering about maybe a laser light outlining the hole & maybe using a die grinder, or nibbler?
Looks good Dan.......for a Patrol
Looks very clean Dan, onya boys 👍
Looks great guys another cool episode
Hey mate ,I used the same snorkel but put the patrol badge on the snorkel, looks like it was always meant to be there 🤙
HI Dan. Get bowdens mr black for them flares it make them pop an look clean
Some people say snorkel backwards equals less dust intake, I am still in two minds about it. Cheers for the ep!
"Im starting to understand how whistlindiesel feels" 😂 13:30
That GQ is so damn clean. The Safari snorkle was 100% the right choice, looks perfect 👌
Looks good Dan good job
Sweet ride❤
Fun fact, black snorkels can increase intake temps, stainless or painted white is the way to go, if you want lower air temps. 👍🏻
Good choice, looks great
Good to see you decided not to reinvent the wheel. Suits the vehicle and does what it's supposed to.
I’m not a Patrol person but the snorkel looks great same as mine what I put on my 75 series Landcruiser
Looks great.👌
Tidy install fellas, makes up for cutting up such a nice patrol
Great work!
G’day Dan, as you have said in the past “You don’t care what other people think” about your mods to your vehicle/s. I don’t care that you’ve added a snorkel to your vehicle. Definitely one of the best gq's running around
Probably the best looking GQ in Australia,10/10 keeping the original look 👍
👍🏻👍🏻Great Work On The Snorkel Dan Keep On Trucking 🛻 Oi Oi Oi 🇦🇺
I could feel your pain when drilling the guard. but the end product looks much better than a stainless
Pretty sick looking ride
also deciding what i want to do with my swb gq has mint panels and 24v aswell so dual battery
A m8 of mine did this, but he didn’t use his original good one. He got one from a scrap yard and cut a hole in it, then spray painted it. He kept on the wall in his shed.

Smart man Dan, safari are great. And look much better than a metal straw
Emotional damage !!! 😂😂 looking good mate .. next decision is a turbo
It suits the car so much, alot better than a staino and also adds something new to the looks
Looking mint 👌
Looks good.
perfect choice dan - nice mate
Honestly added value to the car, also rub used engine oil on your outter plastics, then whipe with a clean rag, dust won't stick to it and it'll won't fadeout so quickly
Dan has such a thorough thought process and explanation of everything he does, it looks great. Funny as giving him a bit of hard time🇳🇿
Honesty love the plastic Safari ARMAX snorkels. I reckon Liam's Ute would have looked just as good with one.
My dad did his in 2007 the first weekend of owning his brand new S4 TD42ti Wagon 😅
Should try the 100 series cruiser it’s a nibbled to cut the hole out .
Boys need to do a budget build between the boys
Love your Car
You made the right choice going with this snorkel.
Nice job mate! Mine's been installed in my hilux for over a year and I still haven't got to drilling any holes in the pillar! #ReallyGoodVelcro..🤣 Drivers side next week? 😛
I think you made the absolute perfect choice for your snorkel.
Dan the man you need to treat your plastic exterior trims to some Cerekote wipes! They are epic for a permanent black shine
What a great day for humanity 😅.
Can't believe you drilled a big arse hole in your old school truck.
Does look good 👍
Dan you should have sprayed inside the pillar with cavity wax so the swarf from drilling the holes doesn’t make rust inside
Lets be honest Dan was never putting any snorkel other than a safari on the patrol 🤣
The new style looks so dam good
I have a guard from mine in mint condition in that sort of red if you would like
Nice job young man , shes lookin sweet.
Looks mint safari are the best looking snorkel
