    Kitty WAS "To Tell the Truth"! People would watch the show just to see what she wore, and watch her interrogate the contestants. And her laugh was so infectious. What a great lady, a "Grand Dame" who is missed to this day.

      I completely agree, and also recognize that she wore the same dresses repeatedly throughout her appearances! I get a kick out of seeing if she would wear one of her "big three": the black off the shoulder with a diagonal bow, the pink with two side bows, or the over-the-top "atrocious flower."

    My favorite TTTT series was in the nineties. I loved watching the panelists walk down the long staircase while the theme music played. When they announced “and To Tell the Truth’s very own Kitty Carlisle,” the crowd erupted!

    Kitty's last performance on TTTT was in 2000, aged 90.
    Then she said that those days average people seemed to be just the internet focused, knowing very little about geography and history... the other way round it used to have been in Her youth.
    Well Kitty it's even worse today !
    Rest in Heavenly Peace witty Kitty!

    Kitty looks swank in her multiple pearl necklaces. Also, she has virtually lost any southern accent, having been born and bred in New Orleans; but traveled extensively in Europe.

    So it has taken from December to March for G-T to get the first panel combination. I picture G-T, Fates, and their minions sitting around the conference table in the Seagram Building saying, "What this show needs is an Arlene Francis!" They had a "Hal Block" in Hy Gardner. They had sort of a Dorothy in Polly Bergen, what with her glasses to give her that intellectual look and her get at them style.

    At the end, we get from Bud an admission of a question that has popped up here at TTTT UA-cam before -- that being that at least on this broadcast he did not know in advance the real challenger. Frankly, I would have kept him in the dark so that he did not inadvertently slip and give something away. Collyer, I think, is a brilliant choice for this sort of program. Warm. Witty. The original concept of making "Nothing But the Truth" feeling rather like a judge and jury was to my mind a bad idea. It does make for many laughs -- Dick Van Dyke notwithstanding to the contrary.

      Maybe Bud should have gotten a vote. i liked the idea of the audience getting a vote in the pilot, although it was handled clumsily, (should have been computed during a commercial and then just announced). Today, if they did it live, they could have people vote from their computers at home.

    Polly's question about crimping is one of the few times I've seen where a slam dunk question works perfectly, finding a hole in the preparation but also having the good luck to ask the correct person last, so the other impostors can't simply copy her response.

  • @MichaelSimmons.
    @MichaelSimmons. 8 років тому +1

    #1 had to be the barber, because he looked the most like Floyd. As far as Mr. Bellamy's question, he confused #3. Her original answer was correct. If you tie the dealer, it's a "push". But if you both have Blackjack, and you didn't buy "insurance" the dealer wins. I don't think she completely understood which of the two examples he was asking about. #2, the dealer can never hit 17.The second game was easy. #1, and #3, didn't have a clue. The affidavit said he coined the phrase in 1951, and #1 said he coined it 3 or 4 years ago. At best, 1953.

      To make a long story short, payola is when record companies pay deejays to play certain records on the radio. Often record companies are looking for ways to promote new talent, and payola was one method. Not only did payola do in Alan Freed, but it also nabbed Dewey Phillis in Memphis.
