Watching the clip of you guys making tupa reminds me of my grandmother. She makes them every year, but ours are a bit different, the outside is woven and we fill it up with just rice, nothing else. My dad is actually her main helper, he weaves them and fills them up with her. I help out here and there, but I hope to learn to make them on my own one day. When we were under lockdown and couldn't go back, my dad insisted on making some at home. They were not as perfect as my grandmother's, but of course, still just as nice to eat. ❤️
There are 2 types of ketupat, one use only rice cooked in woven young coconut leaves. The other type uses glutinous rice mixed with coconut milk plus sugar or salt and cooked in palm leaves that we call palas. Mon’s mom were making this type of ketupat/tupa

Dear Mon and Maayan. Thank you so much for the beautiful videos and showing us true diversity in action 😊 I’m also from a multicultural background, and can say confidently that every single experience in diversity has just made my life richer. Your kids are going to benefit so much from truly experiencing such different cultures, especially with parents that are successfully able to navigate some of the pitfalls and advocate, gently, to respect that diversity. I’m learning a lot from you about gracefully answering sensitive and sometimes impertinent questions. Your replies to ‘why do you let your son wear X?’ or ‘why don’t you pray?’ are respectful, simple, honest yet assertive. I often find myself oversharing massively to defend our lack of religious beliefs or liberal views, when you’re proof that it’s absolutely unnecessary. It comes from the people pleaser in me and to be honest, people are not owed insights into my deepest moral convictions (nor do they want the lecture, I’m sure!). Thanks again for being a wonderful example of diversity done ‘right’- I hope my husband and I will be able to do the same for our future kids (if we decide to have them).
Forgot to add- I’ve been to Thailand twice but never made it further south than Chumphon/Koh Tao. Next time I’ll have to pay a visit to the Green Pepper- it’s stunning!
Wow I'm so happy to read your comment. To be honest, I do sometimes struggle to answer, and have deleted and edited my response multiple times so it doesn't always come easy as it may seem... Therefore I appreciate your comment even more... lately I have not been able to answer much after going viral, or even read all the comments 😅 which is also a new phase of this growing channel. But definitely want to answer you, thanks SO much!

Assalamualaikum and Salam from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia 🇲🇾 for SLL family 🤝🤝🤝
I remember my grandmother putting some powder.on our faces and the back to cool us after shower. This is great!!! We love it.
Amazing, bring back memories...
I'm from Terengganu, Malaysia. Nice Village.
Ahhh thanks so much for sharing this beautiful story of your family. That's why we do this channel. It's so wonderful. Where are you from btw?
@@SweetLifeLanta yeah in my family the dad will woven the tupa/tupat but my mom will cook it xD.
There are 2 types of ketupat, one use only rice cooked in woven young coconut leaves.
The other type uses glutinous rice mixed with coconut milk plus sugar or salt and cooked in palm leaves that we call palas. Mon’s mom were making this type of ketupat/tupa
@@SweetLifeLanta I'm from Malaysia. My dad's family are from Melaka, near the sea, but I live up north, where the type of tupa that you guys made is more commonly eaten.
@@wewenang5167 interesting lol. In my family the cooking (when we have a celebration or gathering) is done by all the older members of the family, all my aunts, uncles, my parents will gather to help my grandparents make the food. My dad mostly does the weaving because it's his favourite job to do.
It's so admirable my friend🙏❤️

Dear Mon and Maayan.
Thank you so much for the beautiful videos and showing us true diversity in action 😊
I’m also from a multicultural background, and can say confidently that every single experience in diversity has just made my life richer.
What a wonderful reunion for you all. Covid caused so much sadness with family separations.
Thanks so much for watching Annette!
Assalamuálaikum...brother Mon..greeting from Indonesia. I really enjoyed watching your video. Your village very similar to mine...
