This song has so much of the energy as one of my favorite lines of poetry, “They asked ‘Do you love her to death?’ I said ‘Speak of her over my grave and watch how she brings me back to life.’”
“No grave can hold my body down I’ll crawl home to her”, Good lord this song always gives me chills. The utter devotion in his voice and in the lyrics makes my heart bleed with intensity and hope…
If someone asks me how I want to be loved I would simply tell them "It would be something similar to a hozier song" because words can't express enough how he makes love sound so fiery, so tender, so poetic and all consuming whenever I listen to his work. Hozier makes loving feel like a religion I have to worship every single day rather than just be something I should acknowlege its existence. Plus, watching this reinforced my big fat crush on Irish guys, that can rock a long mane of hair and has a knack of twisting words like a medieval bard. My single ass quivers in delight and admiration at the thought.
"Lay me gently in the cold dark earth; No grave can hold my body down, I'll crawl home to her" GOOD LORD THIS LINE MAKES ME FEEL THINGS I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I COULD FEEL

My wife and i dated when we were in high school we got engaged but were too young and immature; so we ended up not working out then. I moved on with my life not liking to dwell on the past. I told myself I no longer loved her. That year work song came out. And even though her and I no longer communicated and I swore up and down we would never get back together, this song would shake me to my very core and I would always think about her. Four years later we lived very very different lives and in even more different worlds and we both happened to be in our home town at the same time for a couple days and we crossed paths by simple chance. Those hours we spent together before she left the next morning were more meaningful than the four years before that day. It was as if we never spent a day apart. Today is the one year of when we started dating again. And we married February 16. It still shakes me how much i love this girl... Edit. I never expected to have so much feedback on this comment. But a little more detail for those who care. After we had our seemingly perfect night together she left town the next day and I tried to think little of it (I told myself we will never be again) but one day whilst playing my ps4 I called her out of the blue and we talked on the phone for about 6 hours that night. We hung up and did the same thing a couple nights in a row. Then one night I FaceTime her and we spent all night FaceTiming. A day or two pass and we started watching movies together and even getting the same dinner in order to be as close as possible without being near one another. One night our movie ends and we are both lying down drifting off to sleep facing the camera she says half asleep "I still love you". with my heart in my stomach i simply say I love you too. It was Thursday night when this happened. She lived about 9 hours away and I told her I'm going to visit her in a couple weeks or a month and she said jokingly/half serious "why not this weekend". "I work a lot and need to make plans' I told her. But something about this girl always made me spontaneous. So I switched shifts the next day with my buddy and with little to no planning I drove out to see her. We had a great weekend together and we talked about taking it slow and seeing where things go. The Sunday before I left she showed me in a little momentos box that she still had her engagement ring and her bands too. This made my heart sing it truly did. We spent a week or so "taking it slow" but we clearly both wanted to be together so we became official. 😇 the next hurdle was me telling my mother (my mom loves loved this girl very much. And my wife has a huge amount of respect for my mother so it was very important to her that she accept her back again) when I initially told my mom about us getting back together she instantly rejected the notion and did not want me to date her again. She said the only way she will accept her again is if she still had her engagement ring. My wife then gf quickly produced a picture with it on her hand. And my mom laughed and was happy for us. This happened late June early July. By late October I proposed to her and we flew to Canada and eloped in February. (Reasons as to why we did this is a whole other story thats us in my profile pic) lol
Can we talk about these dancers.. the choreo is amazing. It's like their souls are connected.. like they are more than in love.. something deeper.. if you told me this was a dance company and they are nothing more than dance partners, I couldn't believe you.. they seem so in tune and in love.. which makes this song so much more
I belong to this dance style, to be with a partner is to take a soul mate. We spend months with each other. There is love making that takes place, not this hardcore porn you see, no wham bam thank you ma'am. It can take hours. I'm glad you enjoyed this number.
@@CoreDancer22 for real...each time I see the video they are the ones that grab my attention...I don't know, but there is a sweet passion between them that feels so real
does anyone else get that feeling when you listen to Hozier and it's more than you liking the music but it almost resonates through your whole soul and you can feel it on a spiritual level even if the words don't actually relate to your life at the current time and you just kind of feel this ethereal moment where all at once this sort of sonorous tone in his voice washes over everything in a swirling kaleidoscope of graceful serenity and mysterious chaos and sometimes it's uncontrolled or wistful or messy but it's always beautiful and you can't help but to feel it so incredibly deeply with your entire being
one of the most amazing things about hozier's music is how he makes love sound like a spiritual experience. and there's something just so powerful about the connections he describes- mind, body, and soul, intertwined so closely so sometimes the lines blur regarding where one person ends and the other begins. there's something beautiful about that
I still can't get over that song, even after probably a hundred listenings. The way he describes how he feels home with his lover and what it's like to be loved in spite of his mistakes is incredible. I love that he goes so deep into all the feelings ("I'm so full of love I could barely eat"). He's such a wonderful lyricist and poet
@ofure obaseki Yes, totally! I think he once mentionned that he likes to explore each feeling to its deepest and purest form, this is totally what he did with love in this song 🙂 this is probably due to his love of poetry and his love of the blues
Emy Jolie I love it because it’s not like these new songs about fucking all night or getting drugged up together. It expresses how true love should feel. Not this fake idea that love is some kind of joke like these rappers or Ariana grande.
You ever have one of those dreams in which you meet, fall in love with, and live a whole life with someone you've never met? This song fills me with the same sense of loss I feel upon waking.
What an amazing song! I remember about two years ago a few young people from Ireland (where Hozier and myself are from) died when a balcony in Berkeley collapsed. One girl, Olivia, she absolutely loved Hozier and he flew to Ireland and performed this song at her funeral. I remember watching it on the news. Hozier came, sang and left. Didn't take any attention away from the sad setting in the church... but we all felt he honoured that poor girl so well. What a hero. He's a national treasure!
Just to point out, he didn't just show up, he was asked to sing by the girl's parents, and this was apparently her favorite song. You should be proud of him, he's sound.
*"When, my, time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth. No grave, can hold my body down. I'll crawl home to her"* If thats not poetry I don't know what is. Well, I do know what poetry is, and that's definitely something!
Hands down one of my favorite Hozier songs. That said, the choreographer for this video also deserves some huge kudos. They clearly understand the nature of the give and take in a long term relationship, and how the partnership is more than the sum of the parts. Combined with the song, it is something magical and evocative that gets me every time I watch it.

+WildlySmuack182 Go watch "Work song Troubadour Trial" by Jillian Meyer. She is the choreographer and proposed performing this at one of his shows. Plus you get to see the dancers a little clearer.
This song has a very special meaning to me. I was a struggling alcoholic for five years and I finally said enough was enough this year. That's when I found the love of my life, who immediately became my number one sobriety supporter and advocate. She never asked questions about my past actions or words. She sees me for who I am now, not who I was then. The lyrics of this song are an almost perfect reflection of our story. I'm 16 weeks sober now and deeply in love.
Hozier has this ability to sing from other peoples' perspectives. It's like he can crawl into the lives of other people and describe their lives. My mom had that ability; she was murdered in 1989 (at age 19) by persons unknown, and when I inherited her journals she had written these poems and songs that described the struggles of people she'd never met. It was the 80's; no google, no internet access, just intuition. Hozier has that same effect and affect. It's incredible to listen to. Like Amy Winehouse
The earth is fluff to this Woman. I believe she was great because she was able to give birth to such a wonderful person as you. And I really hope, that her's death was easy, and her's life was interesting, and she is now, there with a calm soul ... In the soft ground. God bless you!
@@yourfavoriteoompaloompa139 thank you sweet one ❤️ Unfortunately my story is like so many others. And of course, other people will always have it harder than others. I was blessed with caring grandparents who raised me, and a stepmom who loves me and my children, and through all the bad in my life, I've learned to appreciate the good things and wonderful people. Things really do happen for a reason, and because of my mom's untimely passing and the passion my family and I share about finding her killer(s) I was able to become nice and compassionate and caring. Don't feel bad for me, because I'm living life the way my mom would have wanted; with perfect love and happiness and trust. But your words mean a great deal. Be safe, and be happy. Blessed be.
@@jamesbarnes6818 once my grandma passes then yes, absolutely. She's really distraught even after 33 years. And her other daughter passed in 2020 so she just feels vulnerable. I think she'd appreciate notion, but it would make her relive things she doesn't deserve to relive
I feel like saying he's amazing is just stating the obvious. But he's amazing. I saw him at the House of Blues in Boston and it blew my mind. He's awkward and very humble and quiet, but when he sings, he SINGS. There's no need for the "performance" element. The whole band actually, they're mesmerizing. And this song is beautiful. They all are. It's refreshing to hear music like this, lyrics like these. Fan. For. Life.
I know, it's a sad thing that today most artists are more concerned with being like everyone else and doing exactly the same (rap, twerk, or anything related) and they don't add any feelings to their music. But it's great to have artists like this band.
I just saw him last week in San Francisco and he puts on a hell of a show. I've noticed people complain about his stoic features while performing on TV and his videos, but in concert he's really expressive and powerful. he's very relatable in person too, so shy and he did a hell of a cover of ariana grande for "funsies" he said. lol. I love music, but few artists touch me so deeply that I want to insert myself into their stories and live through their eyes. it's music for the soul, truely, and my favorite type, acoustic soul, bluesy and folk. if you havn't yet heard the album, you are missing out on a truely great artist of our generation. he's just a youngen too and I honestly don't think this album will be his best piece of work. did I mention he's absolutely gorgeous too? I think I actually melted and lost a piece of my soul at that concert. lol. and if the Irish accent wasn't the sexiest darn thing ever! :)
yea, he performed this song on a TV show awhile back, also when he performed on snl I kept seeing those comments. I think he just feels more comfortable on stage in his own show rather than on national television, and he said himself he's still not used to all the press. btw, your baby is adorable :)
you do not simply listen to a Hozier song, you have a spiritual soul defining experience as each word moves in through your ears touches your spirit and waves of chills run all over you. He is absolutley incredible, and this is simply the most beautiful love song in the history of music
"In the low lamp light I was free, heaven and hell were just words to me". This is real love. To be completely lost from your surroundings in that one moment with that one person, as if it's the only thing that exists. Everyone should experience this.
Unfortunately for me the woman I experienced feelings and moments like this with is a complete knob and dumped me recently, I can feel myself falling into a drunken mess like before we got together, but despite everything she's put me through I'd still crawl back to her. Sad times
that feminine urge to punch a wall when u hear "when my time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth, no grave can hold my body down, I'll crawl home to her"....unparalled i think
Hozier is one of those artists from whose songs I just can't pick a favorite. Every single one is a masterpiece that feels both so tender and fierce at the same time. They cheer me up when I'm sad and they remind me of those good moments where you suddenly realize your life has changed for the better. His songs are like a reassuring arm around your shoulder and a warm meal with your loved ones. A reminder that whatever you're living through, too, shall pass.
i love that the "so full of love i can barely eat" line is getting so much recognition,,, but am i the only one who interprets it in a different way? because the song is called 'Work Song,' and it's seemingly about this guy who has to do hard, backbreaking labor with his 'boys' in the 'burning heat.' he tells us that his boys are working on empty, so I would assume that the line means he's refusing to eat himself-- probably so that food could go to the other guys. then the narrator proceeds to sing a work song to motivate himself and the rest of them, talking about his girl and how much he loves her. I think that's why this is my favorite Hozier song by far lol. literally just the way he sings about hardship, and finding faith (like religion) in his love.
This song is about a Drug addict/alcoholic that goes out on 3 day binge while doing criminal activity and cheating, and he loves her because she doesn't ask questions and is always there for him. In the song he is an abusive man that takes advantage of a good woman.
Only albums released between October 2013 and September 2014 could have been nominated for the most recent grammys, and since his was released in October 2014 it can still get a nom this year!
Kerry Lee! it’s Jillian Meyers and Jack M. Actually, she’s the girl with curly red hair dancing at the video :))) I believe this was part of her ‘simulation’ - doing a mob dance at the audience’s area to establish connection on a different scale. This was later on adapted to the mv itself.. if I’m not mistaken heheh.

Hazard Gaming ...this song so reminds me of a southern chain gang work song from the Jim Crow era...I don't know if it actually is or was an inspired song, but he sings it beautifully.

I was so lucky to see Hozier yesterday and he played/sang this song and my soul shifted. It is beautiful, it is powerful and it is so so full of love. He's not just a singer, he is a poet and he writes love songs like I've see no other. They feel authentic and so full of pure passion and adoration
I find myself listening to this song all the time, its 5:47AM right now and i just cried a little thinking of the girl i love while listening carefully to the lyrics
The music performance, the choreography, the dancers' chemistry, the lighting, the filming, the editing skills... all so fitting 👌 It comes together perfectly!
I know what you mean. I just barely heard this playing in the background to a movie trailer and it gave me that same feeling so I just had to come listen to the whole thing again.
It is though. Wanting to be better in pursuit of a better life. If you treat your love as a diety, and they are worth being viewed as such then it may possibly be the best religion on earth. Imagine a god who loves you and wants you to have good a good life. Who holds you accountable but understands your missteps. a power that at your lowest moments holds you in the warmth of their love and makes you feel alright. Something that pushes you to be kind and honest, and only asks that you do the same for them. A being who only wants you to be the best you that you can possibly be. That's one hell of a religion.
This video has better production value than all the movies I've seen in the last 6 months. Holy hell! Whoever produced/directed/choreographed this deserves some recognition. This is incredible!
The choreography is from Jillian Meyers and Jack Pointer Mackenzie. She has a UA-cam channel and did a video for this same song in which she expressed that it would be a dream to collaborate with Andrew(Hozier). And so it happened :)
I lost my 21 month old in May and when i hear this song i cry thinking of her..."when my time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth. No grave can hold my body down, ill crawl home to her.."
I really like the reference back to Cherry wine. "I'd never want once from the cherry tree," because even if cherry flowers are popular for symbolising love, it actually symbolizes short love, or infatuation, hence why 'Cherry wine' is the song about unhealthy relationships.
I keep thinking about your comment while listening to both songs. Your beatiful mind understood completely these masterpieces as they were part of you. Perhaps they are, perhaps are parts of everyone's soul, still resonating even in dim light. Wish you the best ❤️

Hozier's songs are written to describe feelings we don't know words too. Sometimes it's confusing when we feel such things because it's rare and we don't know whether we should be feeling them. We feel kind of guilty for feeling such things. But Hozier's songs make it better. His songs tell us that it's okay to feel such things and also explains what we are exactly feeling. Like the feeling you get that you can go against the entire world for one person. You don't feel that for everybody. Just one person. If somebody gives you that rare feeling, hold on to them, will ya?
did you ever buy an album because you heard like 2/3 songs and they seemed really cool and everything but then you listened to the whole album and you were like shit so there are only 3 solid songs on it and the other 10 or so are just there chilling in order to make a full-lenght album? did you feel betrayed and like you wasted 1hour of music listening? well it seems like with hozier you won't ever feel this way again go hozier you're the hoziest out there

When I was kissing on my baby
And she put her love down soft and sweet
In the low lamplight I was free
Heaven and hell were words to me_
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold, dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
_When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold, dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her_

Cool
thank you for the lyrics :)
Thank you so much❤❤❤❤❤❤
My wife and i dated when we were in high school we got engaged but were too young and immature; so we ended up not working out then.
Awww so sweet. Btw Feb 16 is my birthday💕

Such a sweet story. Good luck!
I love the story
Can we talk about these dancers.. the choreo is amazing. It's like their souls are connected.. like they are more than in love.. something deeper.. if you told me this was a dance company and they are nothing more than dance partners, I couldn't believe you.. they seem so in tune and in love.. which makes this song so much more
I belong to this dance style, to be with a partner is to take a soul mate. We spend months with each other. There is love making that takes place, not this hardcore porn you see, no wham bam thank you ma'am. It can take hours. I'm glad you enjoyed this number.

That was oddly specific, yet also informative. Thank _you_ .

@@CoreDancer22 for real...each time I see the video they are the ones that grab my attention...I don't know, but there is a sweet passion between them that feels so real
Yessss I feel like it ties in so well to the meaning of the songggg.....
does anyone else get that feeling when you listen to Hozier and it's more than you liking the music but it almost resonates through your whole soul and you can feel it on a spiritual level even if the words don't actually relate to your life at the current time and you just kind of feel this ethereal moment where all at once this sort of sonorous tone in his voice washes over everything in a swirling kaleidoscope of graceful serenity and mysterious chaos and sometimes it's uncontrolled or wistful or messy but it's always beautiful and you can't help but to feel it so incredibly deeply with your entire being
Yes.
You summed up so nicely! The answer is: absolutely.
it's in words
+Sarah Mead I couldnt have said it any better..
Try listening to the REAL Work song by a jazz quartet. If you put in work song on UA-cam it's the black and white one, has a similar experience.
Used this for our first dance last night at our wedding. It was absolutely perfect.
Congratulations!
I walked down the aisle to this last month and it’s such a beautiful song.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations!!
I walked down the aisle to it! So perfect.
one of the most amazing things about hozier's music is how he makes love sound like a spiritual experience. and there's something just so powerful about the connections he describes- mind, body, and soul, intertwined so closely so sometimes the lines blur regarding where one person ends and the other begins. there's something beautiful about that
I wonder if he experiences love like that....
@@katalexander8852 it's amazing to experience it like that ❤
He sings about sex with such reverence! Pure and beautiful and spiritual sin
It is a spiritual experience tho
Isn't that the bare minimum for love lmao
There's some kind of beautiful ancient-age vibes that he gives off with his music, yet it's still so modern. Truly amazing art:)
Because the lyrics speak of the same devotion that has kept humanity going all these years

Emy Jolie hi
@ofure obaseki Yes, totally! I think he once mentionned that he likes to explore each feeling to its deepest and purest form, this is totally what he did with love in this song 🙂 this is probably due to his love of poetry and his love of the blues
Emy Jolie I love it because it’s not like these new songs about fucking all night or getting drugged up together. It expresses how true love should feel. Not this fake idea that love is some kind of joke like these rappers or Ariana grande.
me too this guy just wonderful
Makes you feel hope that you'll find someone who will love all of you😊😊.
You ever have one of those dreams in which you meet, fall in love with, and live a whole life with someone you've never met? This song fills me with the same sense of loss I feel upon waking.

"Our Great Depression... is our lives."
Nah tbh, I'm not that desperate, tho the song is one of my fav.
You should be proud of him, he's sound.
billiey giles ah yeah I know! he sure is great though for going ahead with this!
He truly is, that is a very loving way to show respect, may she Rest In Peace.

*"When, my, time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth. No grave, can hold my body down. I'll crawl home to her"*

Well, I do know what poetry is, and that's definitely something!

"...No grave, can hold my body down" - Johnny Cash - Ain't No Grave. Another beautiful song
that lyric makes me wanna cryyy
Hands down one of my favorite Hozier songs. That said, the choreographer for this video also deserves some huge kudos. They clearly understand the nature of the give and take in a long term relationship, and how the partnership is more than the sum of the parts. Combined with the song, it is something magical and evocative that gets me every time I watch it.
LYRICS:
Boys workin' on empty
Is that the kind'a way to face the burning heat?
I just think about my baby
I'm so full of love I could barely eat
There's nothing sweeter than my baby
I'd never want once from the cherry tree
'Cause my baby's sweet as can be
She give me toothaches just from kissin' me
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
Boys when my baby found me
I was three days on a drunken sin
I woke with her walls around me
Nothin' in her room but an empty crib
And I was burnin' up a fever
I didn't care much how long I lived
But I swear I thought I dreamed her
She never asked me once about the wrong I did
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
My baby never fret none
About what my hands and my body done
If the lord don't forgive me
I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me
When I was kissing on my baby
And she put her love down soft and sweet
In the lowland plot I was free
Heaven and hell were words to me
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
Thanks!

Congratulations! Wishing you the very best!♥️
♥️dear stranger, I am really happy for you

Awwww tooo much gratitude 💯❤️❤️💙🌼🕊️ happy for you!!!

Fan. For. Life.

Very Nice!
I wish I was able to go to that show. I love his album. I found put about the show too late, though. Hopefully next year...
I know, it's a sad thing that today most artists are more concerned with being like everyone else and doing exactly the same (rap, twerk, or anything related) and they don't add any feelings to their music. But it's great to have artists like this band.

Me, bro ❤
Jess M.R I'd have to agree with you here lol. People complained about his features??
yea, he performed this song on a TV show awhile back, also when he performed on snl I kept seeing those comments. I think he just feels more comfortable on stage in his own show rather than on national television, and he said himself he's still not used to all the press.
btw, your baby is adorable :)
aw, she's so cute!
I wasn't very close to him, upper level of the venue but I had a really good view!!
I'm Irish too. A lot of people say our accent is sexy. I always wonder what it is about it that makes it so appealing

A reminder that whatever you're living through, too, shall pass.
thank you for this. that last sentence; “a reminder whatever you’re living through, too, shall pass” is exactly what i needed to hear today.
Feels! Reassurance, finding your way through all life's challenges & changes. ❤
i love that the "so full of love i can barely eat" line is getting so much recognition,,, but am i the only one who interprets it in a different way? because the song is called 'Work Song,' and it's seemingly about this guy who has to do hard, backbreaking labor with his 'boys' in the 'burning heat.' he tells us that his boys are working on empty, so I would assume that the line means he's refusing to eat himself-- probably so that food could go to the other guys. then the narrator proceeds to sing a work song to motivate himself and the rest of them, talking about his girl and how much he loves her.
I think that's why this is my favorite Hozier song by far lol. literally just the way he sings about hardship, and finding faith (like religion) in his love.
How sweet would it be for someone to dedicate you this omg

Kerry Lee! it’s Jillian Meyers and Jack M. Actually, she’s the girl with curly red hair dancing at the video :))) I believe this was part of her ‘simulation’ - doing a mob dance at the audience’s area to establish connection on a different scale. I was looking for the word to describe it and you’re right, it’s Euphoria.. Their music just resonates with me soul.
Hozier doesn’t sing about love, he is love.
GOD is love
@@yesenia1449 & God lives inside everyone of us 🤍

There arent enough words to express how beautiful his voice is and this song. . . Magic... Literal goosebumps. ❤
Hozier makes me feel like love is a religion
it sorta is. at least the good parts are
It is though.
As it should be.
Love is the greatest gift from God, which is why the bottom circle of hell is for betrayal, because it takes advantage of love.
It probably is the one true thing. Who knows??
This video has better production value than all the movies I've seen in the last 6 months. Holy hell! Whoever produced/directed/choreographed this deserves some recognition. This is incredible!
+THExTANK13 Eric Hutchinson watching you watch him is also pretty good.
The choreography is from Jillian Meyers and Jack Pointer Mackenzie. She has a UA-cam channel and did a video for this same song in which she expressed that it would be a dream to collaborate with Andrew(Hozier). And so it happened :)
I just want someone who talks about me like Hozier talks about his lovers
Or someone i love so much that i talk about them how Hozier talk about his baby
Or someone who can atleast dance with me like this on this song all night :'(
I lost my 21 month old in May and when i hear this song i cry thinking of her..."when my time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth. No grave can hold my body down, ill crawl home to her.."
I’m so sorry. I just had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago. When I die, I can only hope now I can crawl home to my baby.
I am so sorry I can not imagine, You are so strong ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss loss
I really like the reference back to Cherry wine. "I'd never want once from the cherry tree," because even if cherry flowers are popular for symbolising love, it actually symbolizes short love, or infatuation, hence why 'Cherry wine' is the song about unhealthy relationships.
I keep thinking about your comment while listening to both songs. Your beatiful mind understood completely these masterpieces as they were part of you. Perhaps they are, perhaps are parts of everyone's soul, still resonating even in dim light. Wish you the best ❤️
Thank you.
I refuse to be in love until someone holds me like that
Karma Hine sweet
Relatable, have a nice day.
Wise of you...
Work Song
Hozier
Boys workin' on empty
Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat?
I just think about my baby
I'm so full of love I could barely eat
There's nothing sweeter than my baby
I'd never want once from the cherry tree
'Cause my baby's sweet as can be
She give me toothaches just from kissin' me
When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
That's when my baby found me
I was three days on a drunken sin
I woke with her walls around me
Nothin' in her room but an empty crib
And I was burnin' up a fever
I didn't care much how long I lived
But I swear I thought I dreamed her
She never asked me once about the wrong I did
When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
My baby never fret none
About what my hands and my body done
If the Lord don't forgive me
I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me
When I was kissing on my baby
And she put her love down soft and sweet
In the low lamp light I was free
Heaven and hell were words to me
When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
K thanks you
Thank u!!!!
Thank you

Katie Elizabeth, i wish i could relate ):
Ashley Botton please tell me people were dancing like this
it does sound beautiful
Hozier's songs are written to describe feelings we don't know words too. Sometimes it's confusing when we feel such things because it's rare and we don't know whether we should be feeling them. We feel kind of guilty for feeling such things. But Hozier's songs make it better. His songs tell us that it's okay to feel such things and also explains what we are exactly feeling. Like the feeling you get that you can go against the entire world for one person. You don't feel that for everybody. Just one person.
If somebody gives you that rare feeling, hold on to them, will ya?
did you ever buy an album because you heard like 2/3 songs and they seemed really cool and everything but then you listened to the whole album and you were like shit so there are only 3 solid songs on it and the other 10 or so are just there chilling in order to make a full-lenght album? did you feel betrayed and like you wasted 1hour of music listening?
well it seems like with hozier you won't ever feel this way again
go hozier
you're the hoziest out there

Thank you
🙌🏼
It's "In the low lamp light I was freed," not lowland plot. I always hear it as "low lipped light," for some reason tho.
Thank you
when i hear this i think of a couple who one day has no worries no troubles. they carry each other no matter how hard life gets. even when they are upset with one another there is always that bond of love that pulls them together. and that shows love is stronger then anything.
Ooo i love the song and i love your comment! your describe my feelings for my husband i love him so much!
+marisela monreal and that's how love should be best wishes to you and your husband

I want to be loved the way Hozier sings about women in his songs. I want that kind of love.
They played this song at my best friends funeral, she was only 17 and it was actually one of her favorite songs, everyone through tears sang it was beautiful. Since then I've avoided this song, I'm literally sobbing 😭. Love u Sara, rest easy baby💕💕
I am deeply sorry for your loss, i hope you have recovered
May God bless you and your friend 💕 You will be in my prayers
May God bless you and your loved ones!
is she from Ireland
Eve Ramirez sorry for your loss. I hope one day you can listen to this song and can smile, even if they’re are still tears. Sorry you lost your best friend.
This song gives me unexplainable emotions towards my baby. 8 years later finally asked her for her hand for life, and whatever comes after that. I couldn’t be more excited to spend the rest of my life with one human.
Too the moon and back 22/01/13
Congrats. Happy for you 💪🏾
His songs are so enchanting and emotional, I get chills on all of them.
I fell in love to this album. The deepest, most firey passion id ever experienced. Hes missing. Its been 4 years now. The lack of closure haunts my sleep. He haunts me in my dreams
he's making love to the microphone and i dig it
Yeesssss!
Mmm hmm, yes💕
He makes something that happened some how forgiven... for the past is the past.. and you just want to start fresh.. it's like saying a prayer that only you can understand between you and your maker... to forgive is to be able to make peace with all of the past.. to just be able to let go after facing some unbearable trama that most people would not have made it through but somehow you did because you are soldier a warrior a fighter always loyal whenever push comes to shove you pushed harder than anyone would have ever seen or noticed because you put on your work face and didn't let many people know.. for what to be a conversation peice over a cup of tea.. Nope you just kept it moving until you collapsed . You didn't want to hear another excuse I'm sorry for your loss. So you fought harder up against people that most people would back down from.
Out of Love. 💙💙💙💙
