When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her

No grave can hold my body down

At best he is revisiting (not inventing) what love used to be like not that long ago. Sad the newer generations dont know anything about that life.
@@misswebb1991 newer generations don't know what love is? Ffs 🙄
Hozier has this ability to sing from other peoples' perspectives. It's like he can crawl into the lives of other people and describe their lives. My mom had that ability; she was murdered in 1989 (at age 19) by persons unknown, and when I inherited her journals she had written these poems and songs that described the struggles of people she'd never met. It was the 80's; no google, no internet access, just intuition. Hozier has that same effect and affect. It's incredible to listen to. Like Amy Winehouse
The earth is fluff to this Woman. I believe she was great because she was able to give birth to such a wonderful person as you. And I really hope, that her's death was easy, and her's life was interesting, and she is now, there with a calm soul ... In the soft ground.
God bless you!

@@yourfavoriteoompaloompa139 thank you sweet one ❤️ Unfortunately my story is like so many others. And of course, other people will always have it harder than others. I was blessed with caring grandparents who raised me, and a stepmom who loves me and my children, and through all the bad in my life, I've learned to appreciate the good things and wonderful people. Things really do happen for a reason, and because of my mom's untimely passing and the passion my family and I share about finding her killer(s) I was able to become nice and compassionate and caring. Don't feel bad for me, because I'm living life the way my mom would have wanted; with perfect love and happiness and trust. But your words mean a great deal. Be safe, and be happy. Blessed be.

If someone asks me how I want to be loved I would simply tell them "It would be something similar to a hozier song" because words can't express enough how he makes love sound so fiery, so tender, so poetic and all consuming whenever I listen to his work. Hozier makes loving feel like a religion I have to worship every single day rather than just be something I should acknowlege its existence.

To this day, I experience such euphoria. This song brings out every emotion one can possibly feel. A masterpiece is simply an understatement.
It is absolutely beautiful, isn't it?🖤
I know what you mean. I just barely heard this playing in the background to a movie trailer and it gave me that same feeling so I just had to come listen to the whole thing again.
I was looking for the word to describe it and you’re right, it’s Euphoria.. Their music just resonates with me soul.
My wife and i dated when we were in high school we got engaged but were too young and immature; so we ended up not working out then. I moved on with my life not liking to dwell on the past. I told myself I no longer loved her. That year work song came out. And even though her and I no longer communicated and I swore up and down we would never get back together, this song would shake me to my very core and I would always think about her. Four years later we lived very very different lives and in even more different worlds and we both happened to be in our home town at the same time for a couple days and we crossed paths by simple chance. Those hours we spent together before she left the next morning were more meaningful than the four years before that day. It was as if we never spent a day apart. Today is the one year of when we started dating again. And we married February 16. It still shakes me how much i love this girl...
Edit. I never expected to have so much feedback on this comment. But a little more detail for those who care.
After we had our seemingly perfect night together she left town the next day and I tried to think little of it (I told myself we will never be again) but one day whilst playing my ps4 I called her out of the blue and we talked on the phone for about 6 hours that night. We hung up and did the same thing a couple nights in a row. Then one night I FaceTime her and we spent all night FaceTiming. A day or two pass and we started watching movies together and even getting the same dinner in order to be as close as possible without being near one another. One night our movie ends and we are both lying down drifting off to sleep facing the camera she says half asleep "I still love you". with my heart in my stomach i simply say I love you too. It was Thursday night when this happened. She lived about 9 hours away and I told her I'm going to visit her in a couple weeks or a month and she said jokingly/half serious "why not this weekend". "I work a lot and need to make plans' I told her. But something about this girl always made me spontaneous. So I switched shifts the next day with my buddy and with little to no planning I drove out to see her. We had a great weekend together and we talked about taking it slow and seeing where things go. The Sunday before I left she showed me in a little momentos box that she still had her engagement ring and her bands too. This made my heart sing it truly did. We spent a week or so "taking it slow" but we clearly both wanted to be together so we became official. 😇 the next hurdle was me telling my mother (my mom loves loved this girl very much. And my wife has a huge amount of respect for my mother so it was very important to her that she accept her back again) when I initially told my mom about us getting back together she instantly rejected the notion and did not want me to date her again. She said the only way she will accept her again is if she still had her engagement ring. My wife then gf quickly produced a picture with it on her hand. And my mom laughed and was happy for us.
This happened late June early July. By late October I proposed to her and we flew to Canada and eloped in February.
(Reasons as to why we did this is a whole other story thats us in my profile pic) lol

Hi there
I was so lucky to see Hozier yesterday and he played/sang this song and my soul shifted. It is beautiful, it is powerful and it is so so full of love. He's not just a singer, he is a poet and he writes love songs like I've see no other. They feel authentic and so full of pure passion and adoration
Can we talk about these dancers.. the choreo is amazing. It's like their souls are connected.. like they are more than in love.. something deeper.. if you told me this was a dance company and they are nothing more than dance partners, I couldn't believe you.. they seem so in tune and in love.. which makes this song so much more
I belong to this dance style, to be with a partner is to take a soul mate. We spend months with each other. There is love making that takes place, not this hardcore porn you see, no wham bam thank you ma'am. It can take hours. I'm glad you enjoyed this number.

Hands down one of my favorite Hozier songs. That said, the choreographer for this video also deserves some huge kudos. They clearly understand the nature of the give and take in a long term relationship, and how the partnership is more than the sum of the parts. Combined with the song, it is something magical and evocative that gets me every time I watch it.
This is hands down one of the most beautiful videos ever. The dynamic partner dance echoes his lyrics in a way that is more than perfect.

one of the most amazing things about hozier's music is how he makes love sound like a spiritual experience. and there's something just so powerful about the connections he describes- mind, body, and soul, intertwined so closely so sometimes the lines blur regarding where one person ends and the other begins. there's something beautiful about that
I wonder if he experiences love like that....

My love was sent to be with the angels. I found out shortly after he passed that I was going to have our child. This song accurately depicted the love story I shared with him. I’m so grateful I found it.
What an amazing song! I remember about two years ago a few young people from Ireland (where Hozier and myself are from) died when a balcony in Berkeley collapsed. One girl, Olivia, she absolutely loved Hozier and he flew to Ireland and performed this song at her funeral. I remember watching it on the news. Hozier came, sang and left. Didn't take any attention away from the sad setting in the church... but we all felt he honoured that poor girl so well. What a hero. He's a national treasure!
Just to point out, he didn't just show up, he was asked to sing by the girl's parents, and this was apparently her favorite song. You should be proud of him, he's sound.

does anyone else get that feeling when you listen to Hozier and it's more than you liking the music but it almost resonates through your whole soul and you can feel it on a spiritual level even if the words don't actually relate to your life at the current time and you just kind of feel this ethereal moment where all at once this sort of sonorous tone in his voice washes over everything in a swirling kaleidoscope of graceful serenity and mysterious chaos and sometimes it's uncontrolled or wistful or messy but it's always beautiful and you can't help but to feel it so incredibly deeply with your entire being

@ofure obaseki Yes, totally! I think he once mentionned that he likes to explore each feeling to its deepest and purest form, this is totally what he did with love in this song 🙂 this is probably due to his love of poetry and his love of the blues

Hozier makes me feel like love is a religion
it sorta is. at least the good parts are
It is though. Wanting to be better in pursuit of a better life. If you treat your love as a diety, and they are worth being viewed as such then it may possibly be the best religion on earth. Imagine a god who loves you and wants you to have good a good life. Who holds you accountable but understands your missteps. a power that at your lowest moments holds you in the warmth of their love and makes you feel alright. Something that pushes you to be kind and honest, and only asks that you do the same for them. A being who only wants you to be the best you that you can possibly be. That's one hell of a religion.
As it should be.
Love is the greatest gift from God, which is why the bottom circle of hell is for betrayal, because it takes advantage of love.
It probably is the one true thing. Who knows??
"In the low lamp light I was free, Heaven and Hell were words to me."
Some of the best lyrics in the history of music. I love it.
I agree
I need more powerful songs like this in my life.
if only i could experience the love hozier write about
This song has a very special meaning to me. I was a struggling alcoholic for five years and I finally said enough was enough this year. That's when I found the love of my life, who immediately became my number one sobriety supporter and advocate. She never asked questions about my past actions or words. She sees me for who I am now, not who I was then. The lyrics of this song are an almost perfect reflection of our story. I'm 16 weeks sober now and deeply in love.
Congratulations! Wishing you the very best!♥️

When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
Thanks!
Can you even imagine being the woman this song was written for?????
To love someone so deep...
Thank you
Yes
Love this song & the heart & intensity of the lyrics.
I’m convinced music & devotion like this still exists❤ . Hozier’s music reminds me so, I’ll never settle till I find it ❤
this song is like a favorite book, each time you listen you hear something new that resonates deeper in you
This isn't a song. It's an absolute masterpiece.
In addition to rocking a killer Man-Bun ;) Hozier absolutely shreds this song with his incredible vocals.
Wooow 👍👍👍
Dallas Coryell MANNN BUNNNNNNNNN
Dallas Coryell Yaaaass.
Dallas Coryell Yaaaass.
lmao. ..
What a beautiful song. His voice is something else
Yes. Absolutely. Hozier speaks to my soul.
I just want someone who talks about me like Hozier talks about his lovers
Or someone i love so much that i talk about them how Hozier talk about his baby
Or someone who can atleast dance with me like this on this song all night :'(
Absolutely love this song. This was first dance song with my wife at our wedding yesterday
CONGRATS TO YOU AND YOUR MRS
Same! Congratulations! We got married in May❤
This song brought me comfort during the most painful time of my life.
I feel like saying he's amazing is just stating the obvious. But he's amazing. I saw him at the House of Blues in Boston and it blew my mind. He's awkward and very humble and quiet, but when he sings, he SINGS. There's no need for the "performance" element. The whole band actually, they're mesmerizing. And this song is beautiful. They all are. It's refreshing to hear music like this, lyrics like these. Fan. For. Life.
I just saw him in Dallas an I 100% agree. I couldn't even find words to describe how incredibly his show was. I'm still I'm awe.
People do a big performance because their music is poop
Very Nice!
I wish I was able to go to that show. I love his album. I found put about the show too late, though. Hopefully next year...
I know, it's a sad thing that today most artists are more concerned with being like everyone else and doing exactly the same (rap, twerk, or anything related) and they don't add any feelings to their music. But it's great to have artists like this band.
this is real music
All music is real music, ya twat.
though you guys are wrong for arguing about this, loki means that this music has soul and purpose and is therefore real music and not just noise to fill the air. Or something like that. Pretty much everyone else is just talkin about butts anyway
+Butter Carrot thank u :)

I love the humming at the beginning soo damn much
For anyone reading this, I hope one day someone loves you and makes you feel like this song
The song is for everyone
Those who long for love
Those who are in love
Those who had it and lost it
And those who are afraid to love again
Wow you are right I got shivers listened to it for 1$t time tonight I'm gotten reply
Ok NOW I'm crying.
I'm sobbing
Boys workin' on empty
Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat?
I just think about my baby
I'm so full of love I could barely eat
There's nothing sweeter than my baby
I'd never want once from the cherry tree
'Cause my baby's sweet as can be
She give me toothaches just from kissin' me
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
Boys, when my baby found me
I was three days on a drunken sin
I woke with her walls around me
Nothin' in her room but an empty crib
And I was burnin' up a fever
I didn't care much how long I lived
But I swear I thought I dreamed her
She never asked me once about the wrong I did
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
My baby never fret none
About what my hands and my body done
If the Lord don't forgive me
I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me
When I was kissing on my baby
And she put her love down soft and sweet
In the low lamp light I was free
Heaven and hell were words to me
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
Ehi thank you for the lyrics
❤
I thank you for the lyrics bc my audio processing is trash and I struggle to understand him sometimes
TY!!
your voice alone is the definition of passion.
I saw him live and his voice sounds exactly like this, if not even more ethereal 🌙
I refuse to be in love until someone holds me like that
Karma Hine sweet
Relatable, have a nice day.
Wise of you...
I just saw him last week in San Francisco and he puts on a hell of a show. I've noticed people complain about his stoic features while performing on TV and his videos, but in concert he's really expressive and powerful. he's very relatable in person too, so shy and he did a hell of a cover of ariana grande for "funsies" he said. lol. I love music, but few artists touch me so deeply that I want to insert myself into their stories and live through their eyes. it's music for the soul, truely, and my favorite type, acoustic soul, bluesy and folk. if you havn't yet heard the album, you are missing out on a truely great artist of our generation. he's just a youngen too and I honestly don't think this album will be his best piece of work.
did I mention he's absolutely gorgeous too? I think I actually melted and lost a piece of my soul at that concert. lol. and if the Irish accent wasn't the sexiest darn thing ever! :)
Jess M.R I'd have to agree with you here lol. People complained about his features??
yea, he performed this song on a TV show awhile back, also when he performed on snl I kept seeing those comments. I think he just feels more comfortable on stage in his own show rather than on national television, and he said himself he's still not used to all the press.
btw, your baby is adorable :)
aw, she's so cute!
I wasn't very close to him, upper level of the venue but I had a really good view!!
I'm Irish too. A lot of people say our accent is sexy. I always wonder what it is about it that makes it so appealing
I don't know, I just feel like everything is better if it comes from Ireland. lol.
This is devotion & commitment
Love this song yea the lyrics are sweet and about love but can we take a minute and applaud the choreography in this video...pure beauty 💜💃🕺
I feel like this is what a religion led by hozier would look like
Well, he's an atheist so it's probably not going to be a religion; but a philosophy more perhaps?
A religion doesn't have to revolve around a god, its mainly just an organized worldview.
Woah
Sign me up immediately
Lightning 107 he’s a Pisces sun so it makes total sense lolz 😅
Everytime I hear the lyric "So full of love, I can barely eat." All I can think of is that I hope that never happens to me.
+Aly Howgard hahahahaha
😂😂
+Aly Howgard i been there 2 times each w/ the same man, once in our youth, and again, 13 years later, not a damn, bit wiser.
+Donna Gosdantian 13 years later!!!!
lol
There is just something about the words and the way he puts so much emotion in what he says. This song just brings me so much comfort yet sadness, because of just how easily this song seeps into my soul. And somehow I feel how he feels.
Hello there Chelsea nice meeting you here
This is my wife and I song! She literally saved me when I had an empty crib because of my life choices. She never judged me for whom I use to be. Crystal made me a better man/father figure. And I got him back in my life and will never let him go!
that feminine urge to punch a wall when u hear "when my time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth, no grave can hold my body down, I'll crawl home to her"....unparalled i think
100% Annabelle Lee vibes and I’m so here for it! 😩
banging my head into the wall
I find myself listening to this song all the time, its 5:47AM right now and i just cried a little thinking of the girl i love while listening carefully to the lyrics
Lovely.

I played this song at my wedding. This was the dance. Thank you Hozier.
this song is so beautiful I got tears in my eyes.
God I love this guy, this song has great structure, great beat, great lyrics, literally perfect
Hazard Gaming I have a feeling these likes are for your picture.
Mustafa Hamdouk your sick
you're*. And no, am perfectly healthy.
Hazard Gaming ...this song so reminds me of a southern chain gang work song from the Jim Crow era...I don't know if it actually is or was an inspired song, but he sings it beautifully.
