  • A truly tragic tale: 10-year-old Joseph McVay of Ohio confessed to shooting and killing his mother after an altercation involving his chores.
The folks at ABC captured McVay's chilling 911 call on video, during which, shocked and despondent, the young boy confesses to the crime. A police search following the horrific turn of events revealed six guns in McVay's bedroom, including a loaded rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun.
McVay had allegedly been demonstrating behavioral issues; most recently, he fought with a bus driver and hit a school principal with a dust pan. According to his brother, Joshua Mike, his mother often rose to Joseph's defense after such episodes.
"My mother was the best mother I could ask for...anyone could ask for," Joshua said. "I know my brother didn't mean to kill his mama."
McVay will be tried as a juvenile. His court-appointed lawyer has already plead not guilty on his behalf.

The older brother was right when he said the ten year old did not want to kill the mother. The ten year old was having an argument with her, he is very immature for his age, lacking discipline, and more than likely hyperactive. During the argument, his anger is raging, taking over, it's all he can feel, he wants the mother to shut up and leave him alone, he feels he can't take it anymore, he wants to feel in control, wants her to stop nagging at him, and BOOM - he snaps. It's as simple as that.

A 10yr old kid isn't even responsible enough to wipe their own ass properly, let alone own a gun. The mom,the family, and others KNEW the kid had issues yet the PARENT still allowed him a gun. Smh. In this case NEITHER of them were responsible enough to own a firearm. Period.

As is typical with the media, the story focuses on guns, and not the circumstances of the incident or the issues of the people involved. This appears to be a rural area where a family would be expected to have a gun in the house. The cause of this incident lies below the surface of the story, i.e. rebellion, discipline, and anger, etc. In the absence of a gun, would he have turned to whatever might have been nearby - a knife, a hammer, or a baseball bat?

  • @Vuabarden

While your right, some kids are disrespectful brats, others are not. I am an extremely well behaved kid, have never once thought of shooting or killing anyone, and i play games like mw and bf3. This kid had anger issues, and had 6 guns in his room. Plus he was young, and didn't understand the concept of death. and no one in here is defending the kid who shot his mom, your just accusing every kid who plays mw of being Violent.

I was raised, knowing how to properly use a gun. I was 8 and I could shoot cans. It's just a tool. Like any tool, it needs to be respected by the user.
This kid could have easy killed mom with any other deadly instrument in that house. He chose to use his gun.
It was an outburst, a fit of anger, a temper tantrum that lead to the death of his own mom. This shit happens. He's 10. He's not an adult, fully aware of what it means to do this or the consequences thereafter.
    Don't be so sensitive.

I'm not saying the courts should give him leniency. And it doesn't matter that a ten year old knows what a gun is and what it can do and what death is...what matters is that a ten year old kid who is raised in a dysfunctional backwoods family (obvious at a glance, here) who is prone to emotional outbursts may not be able to control their actions when the temptation of a gun is right there in their face. - To be con't, ran out of character space...
