Him saying he was acting was related to being happy. He's saying that he wants to feel legitimate happiness without having to act like he's happy in front of the world.
This has to be my top NF song because it can be interpreted in many ways. You can listen to it and reminice in the point of view of NF where he just wants to be away from the problems where adults face. But at the same time from a different perspective, it can be interpreted as a happy song where you can just get lost for awhile to reminice your happy innocent days of yourself. Hands down in my opinion his best song he has made. The chorus and the choir really elevates for you to reminice your younger self or what the song is trying to tell you.

I say it’s a good song but my favorite NF song is “If you want love”

This song is one of my all time favorites from NF. I think the older we get, the more we relate to this song. This took me back to a time when I was so carefree.
It's such a great track, exactly, it makes you stop and think back on when times were simple.

When he references "acting", the line before that he says he misses the time when he was happy, but wasn't acting. 👍👍👍
The line is take me back when I was happy but I wasn't acting. When you suffer from depression, you realize quickly that people don't want to be around sadness so you learn how to adapt and pretend to be happy even though you're dying inside. It's the idea of that drug commercial where someone who is depressed carries around a paper plate with a smiley face on it so they can put that in front of their face while in public situations. Loved you reaction by the way
Exactly took the words right outta my head, which is why I think honest genuine reaction channels are awesome it gives you a mini release and helps alot with getting an opinion non-biased, like your ego to make you self destructive or whatever.
I think the “acting” reference is to back when he was genuinely happy and now when he puts on the smiley face, it’s fake happiness.
This song gives me goosebumps EVERY time I listen to it!! 🔥

@@beyji1plays839 Trauma is among my top five, if not #1. I never suffered the "parental" abuse that Nate has, but there's still a ton of trauma from my growing-up years. I think we all have that somewhere, somehow, in our past. I'm 64 yo and NF was the first rap artist I ever listened to. That was about a year ago, and now there are several rappers I listen to on a regular basis. But NF....he's my favorite. I can, literally, listen to his albums on Loop for hours at a time! He's very therapeutic for me. Blessings to you from Idaho, USA...💛

This song is the most relatable NF song for me. I deal with alot of ptsd and depression issues. I definitely miss the days when I had a control over my mental health. Being carefree and happier. Great reaction!!!

That part in the analysis where you talked about the different pitches of NFs' voice related to his feelings of distance from his childhood.....fire!! I never noticed that. Awesome.
The way he uses the gospel choir feel and improvisation as the song moves on is one of my favorite things he has ever done.
In regards to the "acting" line, I think he's talking about acting happy. I think this song is mostly about grieving over lost childlike joy and innocence. Back when we didn't have so many worries, and joy was natural.

I love this song like a lot. I know I say that to like all of NF’s songs, but this one has something special to me, cuz it’s hype, and is sad, and it’s truthful, while feeling out of reach of what I feel like I can do, though I know I could do it (that’s a terrible explanation). The song is masterfully composed and put into a disgustingly awesome beat.

I've never really connected with this song until now. Listening to the lyrics and just reminiscing now though, I really enjoyed it. As kids, I feel like a lot of us wanted to be older and feel more important, but as an adult I really love the rare moments in my life where I can be care free, even if it isn't in the same way it was before.

I’m going to assume Nate is like a lot of us who others consider “type A” personalities....introspects...perfectionists with OCD.....people who have almost impossibly high standards about everything they do in life....from the way they breathe, to the way they sleep. What it does is make it difficult for others to accept those parts of us when we are focused on whatever our current focus is on. And for us....it makes it difficult to NOT feel like an imposter. We at times act....or perform.....in every relationship or interaction we have with others because it’s the only way to have common ground.
